Last home game of the season against free scoring'Boro'.
With Wigan and Blackpool gone it is left to three to fight it out for the last relegation place. Oh Yes, Huddersfield can still go down, but only if we get at lest a point out of the last two games. It is all ifs and buts and it could happen that all three of us end up on 47 points and Huddersfield go down on goal difference. I think we need The Blades to beat Huddersfield later this week to make Huddersfields last game against Reading a live one with both sides having a chance to stay up. The other way to look at it is we only need a point to stay up barring freek results on the last day. So come on lads let's get over the line today and make the last day easier on the old tickers.
'Boro' are the second highest scorers in the league(one less than Burnley). They are the joint highest away scorers in the league on 38 away goals. They have lost three of their last six games(all away) Their away record is won 9 drawn 2 and lost 11. When they win away they tend to score a few. I expect them to rest a few but turn out a fairly strong team.
Not sure what to expect from us and if we play the same as against Cardiff we will get nothing. As usual it will be a patched up side. Rumours around say Blackett has played his last game and Wiles and p[ossibly Rathbone are not fit enough to play a full game. We have to play a back four imo and fill the central midfield with battlers It also sounds like Coventry is struggling a bit so Taylors job of getting a competitive side out will be difficult.
My patched up side and assuming some can get out and give it all would be
Viktor
Harding Humphreys Wood Hjelde
Ogbene Odoffin Coventry Lindsay Ferguson or Bramall
Hugill.
Obviously i would love to nick a 0-0 draw but i feel our goal difference might take a slight hit today. I fear it could be 0-3 .
Looks like a 4;2;3;1 formation. A strong team from us but also a strong'Boro team with Barlaser in the starting line up. Come on lads give us something to cheer about.
We are staying up, said we are staying up. A great battling performance from the lads.
To restrict a side as decent as 'Boro' are, to just one shot on target is some effort. They had over 70% of play but Viktors best save was from Lindsay who nearly deflected one into our own net. All round effort got us over the line. A very important close season awaits. i think we might need three centre backs, two left sided players, a right winger, two creative midfiled players and a couple of strikers. Over to Matt and his team but in the meantime let us enjoy the g;lory of staying up. UTM.
Finally over the line and deserved. If it wasn't for the crippling injuries we could have finished in and around that middle pack.
He might not be as talented as the others but Odoffins inclusion yesterday goal aside helped us win that game. Its a bit baffling how he's not been involved recently as he has all the qualities you need in our situation.
I agree about Odoffin NorthStand. Yesterday the starting eleven contained no loan signings. i think that indicates to me none of them should be back next season. I would also avoid signing Morrison, Hall, Blackett and Wright. Just too injury prone imo. A massive rebuild is required, especially if Chieo and Harding are gone as well. i would definitely try and keep those two.
Haha, and I thought the thread title was referring to the number of posters still "active" on here Whiston. Absolutely delighted that we survived this season with a match to go, don't think my nerves would survive a last day of hanging by a thread and dependant on results that day. Hopefully we can now establish ourselves in the Championship, and build consistently on those foundations. Let's sign off this season with a good win.....
