Morecambe

Felt like a pre season match. I dont mind being out. Our second string lost to Morecambe thus denying us a potential opportunity to pit ourselves against a premier league teams reserves/kids in a competition we cant win. Maybe we have missed out on a bit of revenue but looking at the teams everyone puts out in this comp it clearly isnt a priority. Eaves looked miles off match fit. Norton Cuffy looked nervous and not match fit either. Both will have benefited from the run out. McCart looks all round very useful. Good luck to Morecambe. They deserved the win. That's about it.

Most of our players looked more that comfortable on the ball which is a plus but we didn't create anything and only really upped the tempo with about ten minutes left.

Im a little worried how we seem to have put the breaks on bringing another attacking option in, Eaves and Kayode are basically doing pre season again and it may be another month before they are fully fit. I think its urgent we bring in another forward.

On Norton Cuffy he always showed for the ball but several times he was ignored when the pass was on, High was guilty of this no end of times. Trust your teammates!

It was a useful run out for the second string and newcomers but nothing more. I thought McHart was excellent and he adds to a formidable back line that PW has brought together. Vickers would have been mortified with their goal and Victor can be assured of the first team jersey for the foreseeable future. Good crowd for a tinpot cup - pity we weren't entertained a bit more.

It did feel a bit like a pre season friendly but for me there are worrying areas not just in this game but in the first four league games as well. I know it is hard to criticise a start that has seen us unbeaten in five up to last night. However, in all five (and ive seen four live) we have been second best in creating chances and even the 4-0 against Reading we were given goals and at times were on the back foot for fairly long periods. I worry we will have to defend and press in most games this season, resulting in a worn out side by end of January.
Last night we had most of the possession but didn't have a shot on target. Eaves and Norton Cuffy need time, High looks a bit lightweight to me but early days,Kelly played full game but looks to lack the idea of where to go when others have the ball. Kayode back for half an hour but he will struggle against second tier defences. Odoffin given only ten minutes suggests to me he can go or at least can go out on loan. The one big plus this year is the amount of strong defenders in the squad. We will need them as i see a long season. I hope i am wrong but i now believe Saturdays game against Birmingham is one we have to get at least a point from and preferably a win. Without a marquee signing in the final third i think Warne will do well to keep us up. Sorry to come back and be a doom merchant but it is how i am seeing it atm. Going away for two weeks after game Saturday so you won't have to put up with me for a bit.

Just think Whiston, you may come back from holiday to find us clear at the top! Agree your point about another striker, we have no depth and we need insurance against injury or slump in form.

The Championship is our priority and while it was disappointing to lose, I would agree that it seemed more of a pre season friendly. I thought McCart was outstanding and Cuffy looked very promising but perhaps a bit off pace but I think he will be a great asset as the season progresses. Rathbone was everywhere but unsure whether Kelly is ready

As for losing the opportunity of drawing a big club in the next round, well it's not like it used to be as smiler says they only field young un's and 2nd teamers these days so not the excitement it used to be. Bring on Saturday

I predict that will be the only time this season that we start with Kelly and Eaves up front. Too similar to be effective and neither running in behind. It was obviously considered more important to rest Ogbene and Washington than to make a serious effort to win the game.

Eaves also a long way off full fitness.

Really think we need to be getting someone in.
