It would appear that since I started doing these pre-match posts, we've played 6, won 5 and drawn 1. I may just keep them going! I hate being too positive going into a game but tonight's has all the hallmarks of a Millers' victory. Firstly, the weather is going to be perfect for evening football - something we've not had for a few games. Secondly, Morecambe are bottom 4 and, if that wasn't enough, their manager and his assistant have both bailed today to take up residence at St Mirren. So, for this evening's encounter, the goalkeeping coach is in charge. Here's hoping that our defence can remain resolute, that our midfield can dominate and that our strikers have their shooting boots on. If things start well, we may have to opportunity of seeing a bit more of TuTu and, possibly, a cameo from Ned Kelly.
I thought you could tell that we had a tough game at the weekend and they had a postponement. The longer the game went on the better Morecambe looked. We looked leggy and there were some poor lapses in concentration. We owe Vickers for some top saves. Still we scored two good goals and we did hit the woodwork twice ourselves. I thought Odoffin did very well when he came on and was surprised Lindsay didnt get a run out as well. Credit to Morecambe for a good performance. They caused us lots of problems.
There's never a comfortable victory for Rotherham! We actually won 3-0 but the lino on the East Stand side failed to notice that the Morecambe goalie caught the ball behind the line from Fergusson's corner. Vickers was excellent, Harding had another good game and whatever Freddie had for breakfast, he needs to have it again before the next game. I thought Morecambe were excellent going forward but fragile at the back. For once, our back line came under immense pressure, some of it self imposed, but when the Morecambe chap came inside and hit the far post, only for the ball to rebound into Vickers' arms, you just know that we're nailed on for automatic promotion and that Morecambe are probably bound for relegation.
I'd have Stockton in a heartbeat to play alongside Smudge - but I guess his price-tag is above what we're willing to pay.
Just got to mention Osie-Tutu. Rarely have I seen a more nervy debut. I think he gave the ball away approximately 90% of the time he had it. The lad must be a better player than we saw tonight to be with Arsenal. I was pleased that he got a decent reception when he came off and I'm going to assume that nerves got the better of him, put that one down to experience and hope that we see more from him now that he has a winning debut under his belt
It must be my age, but I'm getting increasingly nervous with each game. it's getting so I don't want to watch or go to a match.
The game wasn't as one sided as many might have expected. The two goals were beautifully executed but as smiler says the defence were caught a bit flat footed on occasion with Vickers saving the day, worth his weight in gold that lad.
Still top with the same gap between us and Wigan and being top dog means lesser teams tend to lift their game as last night showed so we have to be on our game every game. But another 3 points on to 72 and next up Plymouth. Must remember to restock the tranquillisers.
Think of it like this Calypso - if anyone had told you at the start of the season that we would get in the playoffs you would have probably been quite pleased. Well we are as good as guaranteed that now! Any better is a bonus. MK Dons are on course to get about 85 points. I reckon 88 points will do it and our goal difference is worth one more. So six more wins needed from 13 games left. Or here is another way of looking at it - two points a game average will be more than good enough. We can afford to lose three In a row and still be well on course. Does that help? Probably not but worth a try!
It's not an age thing Calypso, it's a Rotherham thing! I find going to the game is the lesser evil - can't stand listening on the radio and waiting for results to come through on the TV is unbearable. At least at the game I feel I can make a contribution by shouting as loud as possible!!
You are quite right smiler and as usual point out that the glass is half full and I fully agree. Before the season started I would have been highly delighted, and so I am, to see us sitting snuggly atop of the league, but I still feel the stress when the kick off whistle blows which is only relieved at full time. So there it is. Glenn is also right, the best way to use up the adrenaline and cortisone at a game is to yell and shout support. Unfortunately, I can't get around the way I used to and don't get to that many games anymore, so I now sit here at the end of the A17 biting my nails for 90 minutes. I can't see us not getting promoted this season, but don't we all want to see us go up as Champions? I've only seen that twice in my lifetime, wouldn't it be really something to experience it again I think the current management and squad are the ones to do it. UTM
I agree with Glenn as well - listening to radio commentaries is absolute torture. When its left to your mind to imagine what is actually going on all your worst fears play out.
Agree with the radio thing you’re kicking and heading every ball when on radio when you get a corner it’s almost like you’re sucking it into the opposition net in your head and when the opposition get a corner it’s almost like they’ve got a penalty you expect them to score!
It drives you mad listening on the radio!
