Love him?

Hate him?

Meh?

I'm personally in the love camp, and this article cements my belief he understood and felt the blood that runs in a football fans veins

Personal opinion but nobody who did what he did at Boston should have ever been allowed near the game again.  Football wise, he built us a team on a foundation of sand.  It wasnt sustainable.  Name me a player other then Agard who.was worth more after leaving us than when he joined us.  I never wanted him here, and never want him back.  Other opinions are apparently available.

Quite right smiler. In any event I wouldn't necessarily call a member of staff a 'Miller', in my opinion that is a title reserved for the fans, the heart and soul of a club. For members of staff and players it's a job, they come and go. There are exceptions of course, Breck and Ronnie for instance, but Evans ain't one of them; it's a bit insulting for him to even suggest it.

Players being worth more does not seem to be a criteria to judge a manager to me.

Much depends on the budget , the chairman's goals and vision. One would need to know that before making a statement on developing players to sell.

Besides, the question you pose is a non sequitur to the article, which said , Evans turned down Wednesday due to loyalty to the club. If that's true then it's a decent factual piece of history and one that shows the charisma of the chairman and club and fans in a good light.

However, on the point about good players and development one could point to the excellent Rotherham team he assembled that got us promoted into the championship and the one that in the end was pretty comfortable in securing safety. Many of those did go on to play for teans higher or for higher wages but its a moot point to the article.

The argument seems to be that if you have done something wrong then you don't deserve a second chance and certainly don't deserve to be part of the RUFC family despite serving the time and sentence.  Rather than once a Miller always a Miller.  It's once a criminal or a bad action always hated and not trusted.

With respect Ian your opening post invited comment on whether people are in the love or hate camp with Evans. I thought it was an invitation to express an opinion.

I haven't got any time for him at all but I don't hate him. I just wish he had never been anywhere near us. And I am not judging him purely on his conduct at Boston, although to many people that would be enough. I am also looking at his FA record, his behaviour on the touchline and so on. I don't think that is a particularly extreme view.

Secondary to that, I don't rate him as a manager either but that is by the by.

Specifically on the article, people can look at Evans' track record and make their own minds up whether they believe what he is saying or not. You seem to be inclined to Ian, which is fair enough.

Yes, I see where you're coming from smiler. I wasn't suggesting what to comment on. I thought the article was an uplifting one, but know some have varying degrees of negativity about him and some varying degrees of positivity. The non sequitar was about his football teams but I didn't make that clear enough. Although, it's started a debate, which is not a bad thing.

I do believe the article because it seems to fit with a good standard of evidence.

He cites the club, the person and the place and then tells us what the meeting was about. That seems to be fairly solid. Now, as to whether the meeting concluded with an offer we cannot tell unless mandaric cares to say , but I doubt he's interested.

Mandaric himself is no stranger to financial controversy although he has also brokered some helpful deals that no doubt benefitted himself as well as the ailing clubs.

As a manager he is probably as good as is record I'd say , and to pick up on that in more detail , I'd say he's second only to Ronnie Moore -based on results-at this moment, but with PW , hopefully about to eclipse him.

N.B. I'm not comparing the many, many seasons in the old second division, which still without doubt remain our historic High. Oh! For a return to those dizzy heights
