V Man City Youngsters

First and foremost it is disgraceful that we have to play them. But as we have no choice, the conundrum is who to play/leave out to maximise our chances for Saturday. It's a training exercise. Players to rest completely - Wood, Rathbone, Wiles, Barlaser, Ogbene, Ferguson, Smith. Players to definitely play - Hull, Miller, Sadlier, Odoffin, Kayode, Ladapo for 45, Grigg for at least 45. Sounds like it's a bit too soon for Lindsay which is a shame because it would have been ideal.

This game certainly comes up at a time we could do without it. My understanding of the rules for eligible players are this (i will stand to be corrected). Four qualifying players in the ten outfield players have either to have played in the last league game or played forty or more first team games whilst at the club. If you fail to meet this criteria you can be fined up to £5k.

Miller played with a pain killing injection before Saturdays game i believe. He could be a doubt unless he is fully recovered (looked good when he came on from what little i saw of Saturdays game). Wood should not be considered imo, neither should Smith,Rathbone or Wiles. I would like to see Reg (if eligible) and Harding at wing backs, with Ihiekwe replacing Harding at half time or vice verca. This would give Harding and Ihiekwe more practice in the bogey left wing back position. I would give Ogbene a half and tell him to get forward and get plenty of crosses in. Give Barlaser some time as he seems to thriving the more he plays. My team would be something like this but probably miles away from the team selected.

Vickers.

Reg Hull Harding
Ogbene Barlaser Odoffin Bola
Sadlier
Kayode Grigg.

Subs Viking, Ihiekwe, Ladapo, Gratton, Durose, Exton, Miller. Use the yougsters as replacements at some point.

It would be very useful to beat them to continue with the good moral and gives PW a chance to see some of the fringe players .

Prob keep vickers in as one of those 4 from previous and use the subs for the runners that may play a part .

I'd like smudge to have a complete rest.

Totally agree that we should rest as many 1st teamers as we can without getting fined.

Stupid worthless competition since under 21st added...

Instead of us getting fined - there ought to be £100k payout to us, if one of our players gets injured from whoever is responsible for the competition...

Of course i meant the left defensive position as the bogey position and not left wing back. This brain fog i seem to have acquired in the last twelve months appears to be getting worse. It might pay you to ignore what i am saying. Bring back Gru, at least he was correct 20% of the time.

That will hopefully do Sadliers confidence some good. I was pleased to see him wanting to get on the ball and he worked hard although in general play I didnt think he was great. His goals were all well taken and he also missed two sitters City's kids were way superior technically but they want to walk it in and caused their own problems. I like Bola. Miller looks better every time I see him. Useful experience for our kids who got a run out.

Agree with the assessment of Sadlier, he was caught in possession quite a few times and made some really bad choices. That said he could have had five goals on the night

Sadlier played very well, if he scored ten goals a game and lost possesion once and missed three chances some people would moan and yet let others off we far worse, that is the way of the world.
sadlier has real talent he scored 3 goals from 5 chances, Smith ratio is not that. 1 of those chances he made himself out of nothing and the other by a very intelligent curved run to ensure he stayed onside. his free kick was wonderful, nobody else in that squad can take a free kick like that, barlassars hardly ever hits the target wiles is the next best. now clearly sadlier is harder to manage than other players, but i think if warne sticks with him and works with him we will have a great player that can and has played in numerous positions, obviously it works both ways and Sadlier needs to buy in to what the management want and i thought we saw last night he does. he closed down well and encouraged others to do the same, oh in case you forgot he got an assist as well. For me sadlier playing a Number 10 is a great plan B for us when 2 upfront isn't working, on Saturday we will start with freddie up with Smith and if we are struggling we will swap Freddie for kayode (like for like), we need a plan B and sadlier gives us something different, he scores goals and makes them for others, how many goals has Ogbene scored this season? How many assists has Ogbene got this season? Lets appreciate the variety of talent we have, we are playing well and some of our youngsters look great prospects, warne and co. deserve a lot of credit for that as fans we need to encourage all our players and be thankful that Sadlier plays for us and not against us.

Some good illumination derby.

He may well be worth investing in over a longer term. He may well yet become an even more important player for us . January with its changes and then soon after, next season will be upon us . He may well shine when the day is darkest .

I dont think anyone is moaning about Sadlier. He is a good player. He would walk into most league one sides, but for now I dont see him as our best option in any one position. I agree that he is an option to play off a striker but the way we play I think we need two up top and others pressing on behind them. My personal opinion - and that is all it is - is that his best position is playing just behind a front two as he did last night, but he has to get picked ahead of Rathbone and Wiles there and I think they offer a bit more. He certainly did his chances no harm last night though and good luck to him. It is great to have players of that calibre knocking on the door for a first team start.

Very good post Derby and i agree with 95% of it. Please tell me how you know that Sadlier is harder to manage than others. I think it is good to have a plan b with Sadlier playing in the number 10 role behind one striker. This would be totally different than having Wiles and Rathbone in an advanced midfield behind two strikers.

It certainly says a lot for our squad depth Sadlier is certainly a conundrum as you say he would walk into most league sides its a mystery as to where his best position is right wing? Behind Smith? Who knows he’s not blessed with pace but is tricky can cross a ball but his main asset is he’s got a goal in him unlike you could argue Ogbene and Miller it’s certainly a nice problem to have!

I don't know for sure Whiston, you are correct to pull me up on that. I am ASSUMING that he is a little bit more of a management challenge because he will believe he should play and when a player is not playing and they think they shoud, it is likely that causes the manager a few more headaches. I think he is a wonderful footballer and it would be a real shame if we don't get the best out of him
