No doubt about it October will tell us a lot about where we are.

Three home games against Portsmouth, Wycombe and Sunderland. One away game against Mk Dons. I don't think seven points would be a great return as indicated by Davidedin. It would be a fair return imo. I think nine points would be a good return, ten would be a great return and twelve points unbelievable.

I have a feeling seven or eight points is what we will get. We have to keep key players fit and with Lindsay missing all those games i think we will lose at least one of them. I also think we will be around the top six all season if injuries don't do for us. Smith would be a mighty loss as would Rathbone, Wood and Ogbene. I still think our squad is strong but you have to keep your best players fit and aim to get them out around forty times in a season. We are in with a good shout for promotion this season imo.

Fair enough Whiston. I think we are at least as good away from home as we are at home, but I do take the point. On a separate note, I know it's the mindset of fans but we are constantly setting new targets and hurdles to overcome. It was 'we must get a good start' then the old classic of 'you can tell after ten games what sort if season you'll have' and now we are looking at a mini-run of four games as being crucial. I do it just as we all do. I listened to the interview Warne gave with Russell Martin and Alex Revell to Msrk Clemmit on the EFL Podcast (recommended if you havent heard it yet) and I picked up something that Warne has said before about not being one of those managers who tells players that if they all work hard they can win every game. I like his approach. I like the fact that he focuses on performance levels rather than results in the knowledge that the results will take care of themselves. We might not have beaten Crewe but it was arguably the best we have played all season, and the good work we did in that game will have stood us in good stead even though we only got the one point. He is honest enough to say we were awful against Sxunny even though we won comfortably in the end. I think what I'm saying is that although we as supporters (including me) look a bit anxiously at runs of games like this and set our own targets, I doubt that enters the minds of the management and players. They will just be focussed on being fit, well prepared and playing well. Which is a good thing.
