Fair enough. As usual it's just an opportunity to give experience to some younger players and to get some match sharpness into some players who havent been playing. Maybe give Harding a run out?
Good call Uttis. I've lost track of the rules tbh. They force you to take it seriously (otherwise nobody would) by having some selection criteria I think? I'm sure we will do the minimum needed to comply. Definitely a game for Odoffin if we can get him in the lineup.
Message for anyone going tonight, I know it's a personal choice but do you really want to be an enabler in getting Pep what he wants?
Namely B teams in the EFL
I doubt going or not going has an impact . Indeed, one could argue it either way. I'll be dammed if I'm going to sit on the M25 for anything mind.
Pep will be yesterday's chip paper soon enough. As for that kind of change I don't think it's on the cards .Its a fear , but I don't think it has any substance .
Think it's a pointless trophy and sooner or later Aston Villa U23 will beat Crystal Palace U23 in the final. It devalues our league and its importance to us but if its revenue in these hard times not easy to turn down I suppose. I defo in the not going bunch though.
I'm with Brad and NY. We are forced to play in it and theh have to make rules up to force us to take it half seriously. Any comp where that is the case should be binned off. If there wasnt a sinister element it wouldnt bother me but I think the big club U23 participation is a step down a slippery slope.
Good to see the "2nd" string team continues to implement the playing style.
Griggs finish once again showcased his instincts and even our freedie buried his chance well. We are going to need him this season, so , I hope he keeps positive and focuses on getting back in the team.
Smith , showed once again how he makes us tick in that last third, as did wiles.
I am particularly interested in odoffin. He has something to offer but its hard to see how he fits in with barlasar currently being instrumental. When he gets a chance he will have to take it. I think he can .

The scoreline is pretty irrelevant unless you want to make a case for winning being a habit. The players who played who I would think of as not currently in the first eleven but knocking on the door for regular starts were Vickers, Harding, Sadlier, Odoffin, Bola and Ladapo. Vickers looked very assured. I would have no worries about him playing in league games.
Harding was very good but then we already know that he is. Odoffin looks to me like someone who might be most effective sitting in front of the centre backs as a screen and when he has the ball keeping it simple. He did ok but still looks a little bit raw to me. Great hit for the goal. Honestly I didnt think any of Sadlier, Bola or Ladapo did much to advance their causes. The Bola cross and Ladapo header were their only real contributions. Ladapo threatened to link well with Grigg first half but faded second. I thought Sadlier was pretty anonymous. It was another opportunity for him to impress in that central role behind the strikers. At two up after 20 minutes I was looking to him to really show something but it didnt really happen although we have all seen that he can play. Rathbone looked a division better than anyone else on the pitch when he came on. How we have signed him for a nominal fee I will never know. Oh, and Hull didnt look out of place again. In fairness to everyone those games cant be the easiest to play in. I'm just glad nobody was injured. They are my opinions and take aways for what they are worth.
I thought it was Reg who looked good last night and apart from that i would say your assessment is spot on Smiler. I have been somebody who has pushed for Sadlier to start as i see him as a good option in the number ten role. The problem i think he has is that he lacks a yard of pace. When we play Wiles and Rathbone in advanced midfield roles with Ogbene and Ferguson wide and Barlaser a bit deeper the ball moves quickly and it has given us some success in the last few games. i haven't written Sadlier off because he has some quality on the ball.
Odoffin would thrive in the role in front of a back four in a 4;1;4;1 formation. I just don't see us going that way with Grigg beginning to form a partnership with Smith. We now have a deep squad and also players like Hull, Gratton , kayode and others looking like they could become first teamers in the near future. I still believe we need to strengthen in defence and hope McDonald is near to returning. if he isn't i wouldn't hesitate to bring Tilt back in January. The next four games will give us a good idea of where we are.
