After one day in her new job, Mad Nad Dorries, the new Culture Secretary, has removed the Grade II listing on a concrete monstrosity in Redcar and it will be demolished shortly to allow for development. She doesn't seem to be a fan of protecting redundant industrial sites for the sake of it.

I'm hoping she's going to knock some heads together in Historic England and allow our own monstrosity to be demolished. I don't know about everyone else, but I always feel dejected and embarrassed when I approach our fantastic ground, only to have to walk past the mess that is Guest and Chrimes. It totally detracts from the wonderful facility that Tony S has built and the surrounding area could be so much better and would raise our profile even higher.

I believe that developing that site was central to Tony Stewart's plans, Glenn, and the red tape must have really been frustrating. I've no problem with protecting historically significant buildings, but that one is just an eyesore that is beyond saving.

I used to work there Glenn and I too felt embarrassed and dejected every day I walked down Don St to sign in to the 'bread and butter factory' as it was known. It's a great shame nothing could be done with the building as it had quite historic relevance to the town. The common screw down tap , common now to the whole world was invented and produced there. It provided the valves for the Mulberry floating harbour in Normandy during WW ll. The list goes on; but they didn't supply fire hydrants to New York, now a common myth. A shame but it can't be left as it is.

It’s ironic that virtually every other building in Rotherham gets knocked down new or old and the monstrosities that need demolishing somehow remain untouched

Calypso - I understood that the entrance façade was due to be retained and built into whatever development replaces it. I think that's sufficient to acknowledge and respect the memory of a place with historic significance. However, the pace at which these things move is excruciating and Tony must wonder what he has to do to instil a bit of vigour and life into the area.

 Very similar in S6 Uttis where, despite a desperate need, Hillsborough is still standing!

I really would like to see it gone now. Before the fire I hoped that somehow Tony and the council could use it for RUFC. Now I realise this is a pipedream. I do however hope it can still one day be in the clubs portfolio for the good of all true fans.
