Why not us....? Maybe it's because he is reportedly on £10,000 a week and we cant pay even close to that in League One. Wednesday think they can and clearly Boro are going to send him to whoever can pay the biggest chunk towards his wages. Money talks. It's that simple. Do we want to risk going bust again for the sake of Lewis Wing? I dont think so. Is he better than the midfielders we already have? I'm not sure he is. Anyway Boro might recall him if Wednesday fail to TT the monthly contribution over, so he might be available again in January.

The RUFC "happy clappers" supporters club is fast losing members. Think the disillusioned Warne will be off when a decent opportunity arises.

I don't want us to sign players we can't afford. If that makes me a happy clapper, I'll take it.

We get stick for not competing in the Championship, but the truth is that we are the size we are and aren't even one of the biggest clubs in League One. There are four or five very obviously bigger clubs than us. I will give you Portsmouth, Bolton, Sunderland, Wednesday and Ipswich for starters and there are others you could arguably add - although they have all (Ipswich possibly excepted) suffered for overspending chasing bigger things in times gone by which is why they are where they are.

We have done well to perform as we have in recent seasons. It will be a big achievement if we can finish top six again this season.

Any manager who gets the chance to move to a club with greater resources and the higher wages and improved chance of success that comes with it is likely to move on.

smiler the money argument is valid, but you talk as if the player doesn't have a say and that is not true, a player can only go out on loan if they want to and they have the final say on the club. Now it might be that we didn't enquire or offer him the option because boro wanted us to pay too much of his wage, that could be true, however it is a big blow to lose a player of his class to the pigs (yes he is a good footballer, more importantly for a loan player he cared and put the effort in).

Lewis Wing was great for us Derby. He gave everything he had. No problem with him. I agree that a loan move can not happen without the player wanting to go. But neither can it happen unless the parent club and the loaning club can agree what the contribution to his wages is going to be. Or for that matter whether a loan fee will be payable. If for example Wednesday are agreeing to pay all his wage and we are offering to pay 50% - leaving Boro still paying the other 50% - Boro would not sanction him coming here even if he wanted to. Why would they? Loans are like transfers - the highest bidder usually wins the day.

smiler I think we are agreeing here, I fully understand your points and how it works, my disappointment is that it appears (speculative I admit) we either didn't try to get him (I have seen nothing on any rumour site and a club only has to look in the direction of a player to be linked to them) or that he didn't want to come to us and he sees Wednesday a club that failed to pay players wages for months last season, a club that clearly has massive financial issues and a poor leadership culture via it's owner, I know they are seen as a bigger club but as a employee just trying to do your job doesn't everyone want to do that in an atmosphere that is together, happy and supportive? These are things we are told that our club has, so why choose to go to play in a negative environment

I dont know whether we were in for him or not. Even if we were, if Wednesday were offering a bigger percentage of his wage then the player might not have been given returning to us as an option. And whether we like it or not and financial problems or not, Wednesday still have some very good players and will get an average crowd twice the size of ours and can outbid us. Wing will be paid by Boro come what may so he doesnt have to worry about that. I take your fair point about morale Derby, but even accepting that I (and it pains me to say it) can understand why a player given the choice would go there on loan rather than come back to us. If I wasnt a Miller born and bred, I probably would too. In any case I think we have some good players in that area and as well as he did for us, I'm not too upset he isnt coming back.
