So many clubs have released players who have gone on to do great things. Man Utd let David Platt and Peter Beardsley go at about the same time without either of them playing a first team game. They ended up with half decent careers. We are talking here about Yates and Clarke-Harris who both got plenty of first team opportunities and hardly set the world on fire. I'm sure Cardiff and Falkirk regretted letting us have Ajayi and Vaulks cheap, and Northampton might soon be regretting letting us have Crooks for low hundreds of thousands. It's just how it goes. Increasingly clubs are including the percentage sell on clause in deals almost as an insurance against this sort of thing happening.
