Portsmouth strengthen their midfield by signing Arsenal prospect.

...Azeez joined Arsenal at the age of five and penned his first professional contract with the London giants in September 2019...

700k for Barlaser! There is two ways of looking at this if it is a genuine offer. Apparently Newcastle have a 50% sell on clause.

Imo it must be his reputation that Posh have bought into, to value him at that price. I haven't seen him boss enough games to warrant that valuation. He has been in and out of our team and is currently not an automatic starter. The other side of the coin is that we don't play a style that suits him. That is possibly true. However, i would be very tempted to take the £700k and put in the same sell on clause that Newcastle did with us. I am sure people will say i am crazy which is fair enough. However, the facts don't back up this price. An under achiever, one who threatens a lot but hasn't delivered. He is anonymous in to many games imo. Yes, we bypass the midfield too much but do you really see that style altering anytime soon ? It could be argued he is a luxury for us and getting £700k would be good business imo especially if most of it was put into buying a striker. I will now put my tin helmet on.

Interesting views Whiston. On balance I dont think it's an offer we should accept unless he definitely wants to go there. After we tip up to Newcastle we are about getting out money back, unless we put our own sell on clause in and he goes for millions down the line. I also wonder whether it is a good move for him. Peterborough are likely to struggle this season and are like us in many ways. They happen to be at the top of the yo-yo cycle at the moment and we are at the bottom, but in many ways it looks like a bit of a sideways move. I would like him to stay. If it was a move like Crooks got to Middlesbrough fair enough, but a move to Peterborough for £700k doesnt really add up for me. I do see where you are coming from though.

We don't have another player like him.

He is very good on the ball.

He can't be replaced for 350k nor even 700k.

We took him on loan, bought him and nurtured him. That's a lot of value invested.

Like the rest of our squad he has to stay. A Weakened squad is shortsighted . He can't be replaced for that money.

A good transfer window is none out and two in, at worst none out and 1 in, every player that leaves has to be replaced the net must be +1 minimum.

Agree he's one of our best players.

He's wasted in the way we play just now and I feel sorry for him. For that reason I'd be tempted at £1M with 40% or better add ons if he's sold on.

We need a striker.

Ipswich have signed Bersant Celina on a season-long loan from French side Dijon, pending international clearance.

The winger was a fans’ favourite during another season-long loan spell in the 2017/18 season, and has become their 18th signing of the summer transfer window.

The tractor boys have well and truly ploughed up the fields and planted some new crops.

I noticed over the weekend that Paul Mullin (with whom we were linked) has joined Wrexham. So after winning promotion from League Two with Cambridge and finishing as top scorer in that division he has chosen to drop into the National League. Obviously Wrexham have some Hollywood money to spend, but what does that say about the player?

Ian says Barlaser cannot be replaced for £350k. What are we replacing ian ? He is 25 in January, has only played 107 games in his career. His best form was apparently at Accrington on loan. For us he has played 64 games (27 on loan). If he is given time to spray those diagonal balls then he looks good but in this league he will not be given that time. i do believe he could be ok in a good footballing championship club where his ability could shine through with better players giving him space and time. I do not see him flourishing for us with the style we play and the high pressing physical nature of this league. He has the ability to keep the ball in tight spaces and play out of trouble but we don't regard that as important to our style imo. I would cash in with a good sell on clause. We have several midfield players at our disposal that are a better fit for this league imo. I hope Barlaser has a big future in the game but i feel his talents could be better used elsewhere.

I cant see Barlaser going anywhere until his long covid issues are sorted out. That's why we dont really see him for a full match.

There could be some loan movements into the club but i cant see anyone going out unless some absolutely stupid money is thrown in front of TS for Smith.

The answer is that we are highly unlikely to get a better L1 player for the money. I like you pointed out his ability in tight positions because this is key for me and he was a welcome addition in the latter stages v donny. He did well for us on loan and looked OK when he ran out for us last season. Its a question of good enough and value for money in this case. I'm thinking squad depth .

Does anyone understand the logic of Rotherham trying to sign Slater from Sheff Utd? It is yet another midfielder, a position at rotherham that brings a high risk of a stiff neck as you watch the ball fly over your head. We brought in Odiffin to play the defensive midfield role, so why another one. We are clearly short of finishing quality up front and everyone knows any money we do spend needs to be in that area, even Warne has stated this, yet we are trying to sign a defensive midfielder?

Looks like Hull are getting him - but I totally agree with you Derby - this has baffled me for a few seasons now.

Warne likes to get in 1000 midefielders. only plays 3 or 4 of them , ****es the others off so they leave, then as you say, plays hoofball anyway nonono

Strikers is what we needed... hope Smudge stays.

Firstly, they get criticised if they havent got lists of players ready to move quickly of needs be. Perhaps (if it's true that we were interested in him) if there are bids for Barlaser he was being lined up as a replacement. Secondly, even if he was on the radar that doesnt mean we weren't looking at a striker as well.

Big signing for L1 and the massive.

Saido Berahino.

Wolves negotiating with cardiff for Kieffer Moore...that's the chain that would see a bid for Smith...?

In light of the information regarding bids for wiles, JJ, barlasar, sads,...I thought I'd check the state of contracts at the club.

I counted 10 first team players who's contracts expire in 2022.

This is a lot of pressure for the club to manage and for PW in particular to use in as wise a way as possible. It might be that none of them are likely to put pen to paper before the season is done.

Good incentives for these players on the one hand, but possible huge hole for the club at the end of the season...

Promotion would help keep some perhaps but failure looks like a potential cliff edge.
