I think Vassell was also injured for very long periods ?
In praise of Freddie :
If he doesn't play , he can't score .
Thats a contribution worth waiting for
To leave him out, because he twists and turns
Is like saying the beatles aren't worth playing because Elvis is on stage.

Vassell was injured from time to time but I don't think for long periods. He was just never a regular starter. Certainly not as a centre forward. Rightly so, because when he did play he wasn't great. I just don't go with the idea that he was a Warney favourite. He looked like he wanted to flatten Warne every time he got subbed off (which was virtually every time he played) and played about ten games in his preferred position in two and a half seasons.
I don't mind so much Ladapo twisting and turning in the box to get a shot away. What bothers me is that he regularly does it thirty yards from goal or on or near the halfway line when he has his back to goal and has a simple option available. When we struggle to get good possession, it is criminal for us to give it away so cheaply. He has to do better with those things. If he added that sort of thing to his game (a) he would get picked more often and (b) he would score more goals, because he would be setting up more attacks and crosses to get on the end of. Personally I like him, but I do also find him frustrating because he could easily be even better.
Hi smiler, i was referencing his starts prior to him.leaving . Was warne comments and was he putting him in the shop.window maybe
Its all ifs and buts now
But happy to have a opinionated discussion when we are 10 games in
You'll be delighted to know HM if you weren't aware already that Vassell is out of contract with us come the end of May, and Warne already said we won't be offering him a new contract.
Smiler - I think you've done your family duty in defending Mr Vassell - time to move on. I'm sure there's a new favourite lined up or are you waiting to see if anyone comes in with Hollywood looks?!
Let's hope he gives us something to cheer about. Being in League One next season, we can reasonably expect the likes of Lapado and Sadlier to do really well - they've got form!

Agreed Glenn.
We look particularly well catered for in midfield with Lindsay, Barlaser, Wiles and Sadlier in there. I wish we could add Wing to that list. Next season will be a big one for Ben Wiles. He isn't a kid any more. He has a lot of Championship games under his belt now. He needs to establish himself as a forward thinking midfielder, not a utility guy (Warne hasn't helped him in that respect), add goals to his game and shine next season.
We have got plenty of players who look top end league one standard.
Smiler, another enigma was JCH, after hearing Poshs chairman on the radio the other day they knew he could play and finish, they just had to pair him up with someone who could feed the player, Goater was another one, feed the goat and he will score.
I feel Ladapo is the same, i would love him to play more centrally swap smith and Ladapo positionally and Smudge would be a good provider of goals as well as a few himself.
LG1 is no breeze, and as such i dont think Warne is going to be here in the summer, and i dont want Barker in charge.
UTM, Roll on next season, some good away days to look forward too.
Yes smiler i was aware of his contract ending.
Im not like the two previous dissenters.
I grew up.in hillsborough supporting the.millers
Red through and through like you.
I dont think warne learns from his mistakes, i may be wrong but he doesnt like dissenters either
I misunderstood what you were saying about the 'shop window'.
Some people who don't like Warne are quick to point out that he has had three relegations, when we all know that there was literally nothing about the first one that was his fault. He inherited a sh1tshow of a team that was only heading in one direction. It isn't really fair to stick the first relegation on him, but it makes a nice soundbite to say 'three relegations' if I want to criticise him. If I like the guy, I can easily overlook that particular episode. I prefer to think of it as time taken by him to sort a few things out that paid dividends the following season, when he had the opportunity to start afresh.
Those same people might argue (some have) that we were lucky to get promotion last season because of the early finish and points per game. Again I think that is a bit unfair. We were in second place deep into the season. That is two or three places higher than we finished under Evans and Warne previously to get into the playoffs. I could (and would) argue that being second after 35 games and getting up on merit is far less lucky than finishing fourth or fifth and getting up via the playoffs, which can be a bit of a lottery. But no, we get to second with Warne and he is labelled as lucky rather than given any real credit.
I have seen you argue HM that Warne is too cosy with his players. Now you are suggesting that he does not like dissenters (I am not sure which managers do - Evans used to talk about weeding out 'bad apples'). I honestly don't think there is any evidence either way. He has moved players in and out of the club, on loan or otherwise, just as all managers do. Remember that Warne gave JCH a contract extension to give him time to get over an injury. But people who don't like him are happy to assume that he can't manage difficult characters and throw that at him. Honestly, if anyone thinks none of the players Warne clearly rates and picks regularly are difficult characters they are badly wrong.
This isn't directed at you by the way HM. I totally respect your opinions. I am just trying to make the general point that we often decide whether we like a manager or not, and then find reasons afterwards or infer what it suits us to infer to get back to the desired conclusion. I like the guy and think he is a good manager, so perhaps I cut him too much slack. I would accept that. I see a manager who turned round a horror show, has won two difficult promotions and has twice come close to keeping us up against the odds. Others see a loser (to use a label given to him by Gru) with three relegations on his CV who won a couple of lucky promotions. Its all a matter of perpective and opinion.
