Paul Warne and the (4) musketeers

If you haven't read the star article on the contract (none) talks then please do.

I think I noted 2 interesting things.

1. Warne was typically honest but untypical of him were comments I think could be interpreted as his most critical public comments.  2. If these comments are anything to go by it may indicate an evolution in his managerial career.

As a fan , I am happy to get an insight and appreciate Warne s clarity and openess.

I had a difference of opinion with a mate. He felt we should pull out all the stops to keep the 4 players. I felt that if players wanted to gamble with their next contract then so be it and as a passionate person and Rotherham fan , I'd be OK with all of them leaving -my time as a civilian in my workplace tells me that when someone mutters about leaving then altering and pandering to their noise only delays the inevitable and causes others disquiet.

I take the view that I cannot be bothered with uncertainty and so I support Warne s response. ..I'll look elsewhere

On one hand I don’t blame the players one iota it’s a short career and you’re only one bad tackle away from ending your career Having said that I am first of all a Millers fan and if any current player does not want to play for us then I applaud Warney for looking elsewhere Immediate priority must be the last 12 games it’s a win win for us as any potential departures will surely now be putting themselves in the shop window if they stay fair enough if they go we’ve hopefully got some cash to replace them Rumours wise I’m not bothered about Robertson he’s not someone you’d want in the trenches with you Smith will be hard to replace but not impossible

This happens at all clubs except the top three or four in the land, and even they arent immune to losing players to Barca, Madrid or PSG occasionally. I dont blame players for maximising their income while they can, and we cant afford to break the bank to tie players down when we dont know what our budget will be. It's just how it is. All I ask is that players give 100% while they are here, which our current crop invariably do.

Quite right smiler. Just hope they haven't already been tapped up and their attitudes and application been affected. One thing's for certain they'll all be under supporter scrutiny from here on in !

If I try to put myself in the mind of someone who has a contract running out this summer, I think I would hedge my bets a bit. RUFC probably arent offering me as much at the moment as I would like. They probably cant afford to until they know where they will be. Maybe I could get a deal with another Chanpionship club. Maybe RUFC stay up they will offer more. In any case I am playing for a contract somewhere so I am going to really try and impress. Plus i am probably on a bonus if we do stay up.

As 'professional' footballers, you would expect all our players to give 100% whatever the cir***stances. But football is not a normal working environment and integrity and loyalty are not necessarily at the forefront of players' qualities. However, given RUFC's cir***stances and those of players coming towards the end of contracts, I would expect that it's in everyone's interests to ensure the club performs to the best of it's ability and to ensure Championship survival. That way everyone benefits - even the poor old supporters!
