The character and values of the people in charge sets the tone for the rest of any organisation. The club represents the town and the supporters. We have a thoroughly decent man as Chairman and an equally decent man as Manager. Football has its share of conmen and dubious characters and we havent been immune from that in the past. I make no comment on Barton. I am only concerned with us. I like what we are at the moment and what we represent.
Lovely headline in the Glasgow Times - 'Rangers flop Joey Barton back in management job with Clint Hill his assistant after Fleetwood sacking'. No love lost there apparently!
And to think, some on here wanted him instead of PW?!
Decent & successful aren't words I'd associate together. Depends what you want. Barton when we played Fleetwood last season at the NYS he'd got them set up right, looked a good side. I'm a risk taker. I'd have had Barton here.
Anton Johnson decent? No. But at the time Miller's fans didn't care! Filled Millmoor. Got us the most exciting signing in my time watching us, Towner. Depends what you want be good losers or have a better chance of stopping up!
Tommy Doc & Steve Evans totally decent wouldn't same call them but former got crowds in at Millmoor. Latter kept us in the championship something present manager hasn't achieved.

Johnson was a scoundrel who ran Rotherham into the ground in the early 1980s before owning Southend, without giving up his holdings at Millmoor. He illegally owned two clubs. In 1985 the FA banned him from ever being involved in football again.
“Naturally he washed up at Scarborough in 1998 after an abortive attempt to buy Doncaster off our old pal, Ken Richardson. Scarborough were relegated from the Football League in 1999.
Great to see joey back in football what about my dream team at the NYS. Steve Evans director of football he knows all the fiddles and Joey Barton as manager give me that kick in the knackers soccer any time I can dream. I understood your message gwru I do feel sorry for those of a lower intellect level.
GlennMiller for you Tommy Doc & Steve Evans not conventional in their methods but the former got the crowds in at Millmoor. The latter kept us in the championship.
Right on there about tommy doc going for my weekly shop the other week mighty Quinn was being played on the radio there I was singing away to it. One of my best times at Millmoor and old Stevie my best time at the NYS.
'Tommy Doc & Steve Evans totally decent wouldn't same call them'.
That makes no sense whatsoever. It is garbled nonsense. I think you might be saying that you wouldn't call Docherty or Evans decent men, but go on to say that they both had an impact in their own way. I think you are also suggesting that as long as the manager provides entertainment or gets results you aren't really bothered whether they are men of good character or not.
I think, but I am guessing a bit. If you used English - even moderately bad English - it would be simpler.
I think you are confusing decency and conventionality by the way, Gwru.
Abusing referees and screaming and shouting on the touchline is probably about as conventional as you can get in football. For my money, Evans was very conventional and in fact fit a bit of a stereotype.
I welcome and celebrate the unconventional. I do not, however, care much for criminal or dishonest people.

81 Anton Johnson I can't remember if our fans knew or were bothered about anything dodgy with him when he was our chairman. But I was at Carlisle when we clinched promotion on buses there they were bouncing. Then Plymouth game at home in the Millmoor Inn never seen celebrations like it.

I don't think anyone knew how dodgy Johnson was until after he had gone.
Your point is a fair one to this extent Gwru - very many fans will turn a blind eye to the ethics, values and back stories of their owners, players and managers provided that their team is winning. Not all supporters are like that, though. THMiller sees Barton and Evans as a dream team. I see them as close to my worst nightmare. You pay your money and you take your choice. No problem.

And if you would prefer your dream team of Anton Johnson and Emlyn Hughes over Tony Stewart and Paul Warne, I don't only think that you have lost your marbles, I don't think that you had any in the first place.
Everyone knew that Anton Johnsons fantasies were unsustainable, apart from you. The same applies to Steve Evans.
At the risk of repeating myself, although why I should worry I'm not sure since you repeat exactly the same cr*p every day of the week. After the last home game of the 95-96 season I was in the Millmoor Hotel with Ronnie, Brecks, Brecks brother, Ians father, and we had a few end of season scoops. I asked Ronnie who was the only player to play for England in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Has the usual Clemence, Shilton answers, so I gave them a clue. They both played with him. Still no answer. I told them that it was Emlyn Hughes. Ronnie said oh right. But he never played for Rotherham, he put a shirt on a few times.
I was there a Carlisle when we got promotion if the old memory cell is working. Won 1-0 Rodney Fern scored Peter Beardsley was playing for them ran us ragged don't know how we won but when your luck is in. There was no one I knew the least bit concerned about Anton being a con man plenty of them in football what about Blackstock. At least he put a very good team on the pitch.
