When Warney took over from Jacket we were in big trouble manager wise, the owner just couldn't find the right man .
After Evans went he tried Redfern (who I thought deserved more time with his talent for nurturing young players) but the owner didn't have faith in him.
Along came Stubbs with all his experience but he simply imploded.
Warnock incredible job he did for us but we couldn't realistically afford him.
Jacket came and went when he realised the size of the job and didn't fancy it.
What the club did after Jacket was the best decision they have made manager wise they went for an untried fitness coach but he was a man who loves the club and is proud to be manager of our club,he made mistakes as all apprentices do, he appears to have learnt from them, he seems to have the knack of getting the best out of his players, IMO for what it's worth we have a manager who is doing an excellent job .
You won't be surprised to learn that I agree with you, Len. At the point he took over we were a complete shambles, overspending on players who had no interest in being with us. Frankly, we were a bit of a laughing stock. Not only was relegation that season inevitable, but a fall straight through League One and into League Two was looking very possible. A massive rebuilding job was needed. The speed it was achieved was remarkable and the immediate bounce back was a fine achievement. OK, we fell just short again in the Championship but gave it a fair go, and have now bounced back again in even better shape. The challenge of staying up is still a massive one, but we can be proud not only of having such a good go at it but also the fact that it is being done within a manageable budget and in an manner that does us enormous credit. On any view, whether we stay up or not, we are in a much, much better place now than we were when he took over. Massive credit to Warne and all his staff for what they have done and are doing.
My fear is that this will not go unnoticed and if we continue to improve he will surely be offered jobs at 'bigger' clubs. He has a family to support, and if somebody offered him a decent contract on big money nobody could blame him if he took it. I am amazed that he doesn't get mentioned in connection with the vacant job at Wednesday. Perhaps we are fortunate that they are so Massive that he might not be thought of as a big enough 'name' for that job, but he is exactly what they need in my opinion - or someone like him - to rebuild a club that looks rotten to the core.

Don't think Warne (or any sensible prospect for that matter) would go anywhere near the Wednesday job. They are skint with more possible punishment on the horizon, pretty certain to be relegated and with a chairman who interferes too much and whose family don't want him putting more money into the club.
I agree Splinter. I doubt he would take it if offered. But it shows the Wednesday Massive mindset that he never gets mentioned as a candidate. They tend to go back to the same merry-go-round for so-called bigger names.
I have to admit, I was dubious of his appointment to begin with, but with the thought that he couldn't do any worse than the previous in***bents; Warnock excepted. I always thought also that Redfern, at that time was on a hiding to nothing and felt sorry for the man.
Let's not forget, it was also a huge learning curve for the chairman too, he had the responsibility of making the right choice for our manager. It all seems to be paying off now. I've been as frustrated as anyone, particularly with the way things were going at the start of the season but we seemed to have so
He has proved himself a good manager. To build and rebuild and get us here is proof.
He has to keep us up and then produce a team that is comfortable-ish in this league and then he will be v.good and justifiable linked to bigger clubs.
He is doing a very good job this season in the hardest league in europe, with a small budget, credit to him. He comes across as a genuine guy that believes in his style of management and his players. Regards leaving for another club, if he gets the chance I am sure he will take it after all it is a career where everyone gets the sack so take what you can when you can. However he will not get the time he has had at our club in a bigger job they will want instant success.
Probably stick my neck out here, unless a bigger club is pretty local I'm not sure Warney would go for it. Its a big gamble and a lot of upheaval and like you Smiler a young family to support with embedded roots in Rovrum? or Donny?
Warney knows even if he doesn't cut it as manager here, he know's he's got a fitness coach job for life, at a club he loves. Who knows he could very well end up being Rotherham's most successful and longest serving manager....cerainly got the intelligence and experience now to make that happen...Good times these

I agree with that 100%. Warne's stock is high at the moment but if we went on a losing streak and relegation looked likely he would be very much at risk of the sack. Michael O'Neill at Stoke apparently earns £30,000 a week on a four year deal. If he gets the sack that contract gets paid up. I imagine that Warne is on maybe 10% of that? 20% tops? Its is a total guess but if it is more it won't be much more. I understand what Exeter says about roots and family and so on, but if someone came along and offered him a long contract on several times his current salary plus a chance to compete at the top end of the Championship, that would surely be very difficult to turn down.
Thank you Glen.
I've been back in Hospital with old ticker for 4 months and then rehab . Glad to be back. Stoll been able to follow games and media, but not up to posting.
Back of the treatment table and on the bench again now. Pushing for a 1st team start but I expect PW will introduce me at around 85 min for the next couple games.

Good to have you back on here Ian. Keep well. Watching us hang on to leads isn't generally good for anyone's health.
47 points, says deep thought...Well, that would be about right. As for us it means 8 positive results from 20. 47 points is quite a journey with only 20 stops along the way.
I agree warne seems.to getting the best out of his team and found a working formation
One I believe suggested would work
On a side note do we seem to be missing matlock at all

It's a high quality bench at the moment Ian so competition will be tough. May be a few weeks with Wigan to assist your rehab?!
