1. A heart felt open letter sent by Jamie Proctor to all associated with the club talking about his lasting connection to the club and all the support that he had during his injury battles. Amongst other things he makes the point that the way that the club deals with people makes it a club that players want to play for and want to give their all for.
2. Paul Warne on Radio Sheffield last night talking to callers who were supporters of various clubs and some of them not particularly football fans at all about mental health and well being on national Time to Talk day. A wonderful ambassador for the club. He and others at the club are still calling potentially isolated and vulnerable supporters and people in the town on a regular basis. Well done also to James Coppinger from Doncaster who was on the same programme and who clearly does a lot of good work in that area.
3. The club's Community Trust has been selected as one of half a dozen or so football club groups in northern England to work one to one with particularly vulnerable young people to help them cope with and get through the lockdown and keep on top of their learning.
It is a football club that I am very proud to call myself a supporter of.
Great post Smiler. Just shows that it takes more than 11 footballers to make a great football club!
There's lots to be proud of being a Rotherham United supporter. As Procs says - everyone from the top down is first class.
Just a pity our Chairman doesn't aspire to the same standards of class as some irk from Liverpool!
At a time when our leader was under fire from Wozza, the letter from Procs certainly provided a bit of welcome balance.
I am with you Glenn. If reports are right that a betting company funds most of Rooney's wages, that the chairman effectively sold the ground to himself at a suspect price to sidestep FFP rules, that they run up massive debts and don't pay their staff on time, I wouldn't want us taking lessons in 'how to be classy' from Wayne and Derby County.
It's great to read good news for a change; very uplifting particularly with all's that's going on. Thanks for posting smiler.
Incidentally the absence of certain parties on this thread is also very noticeable and refreshing.....'As cowards cringe and traitors sneer, we'll keep the red and white flag flying here '
what a great story, well done to Warne and the club. Regards Rooney ignore it he has been protected all his career from reality because he was a talented footballer. At the top levels of football the whole system protects the elite, talks about the wider community of football but doesnt live the words. Football is a great representation of humanity (all forms of society) the elite are protected and look down the nose at the rest and the elite control the media who feed lies and propaganda to the masses and the masses eat all the lies up. If the media had any integrity in it they would point out to Rooney about Rotherhams community work, the financial corruption and his own behaviour over the years, but they won't because they are puppets of the elite. Rooney was brought up under Ferguson as well, there is a soar loser if ever there was one, so called the greatest manager really? He only ever achieved real success at one club, he instilled fear and bullying into the whole club but he made a good news story and made many people very rich and rooney is the same. Rant over, I am proud of our chairman and the club he has built
If you like your world sugar coated yes all good. But Proctor was getting paid a dam sight more than any of us for being injured correct? I don't know anything about mental illness so not going to say anything about it. The real world I see is people on the poverty line going to food banks. There aren't the jobs around such as British Coal or Steel how it was when I started working. They will never come back so the gap is widening between the have's & have nots. That's the world I see.
Here we go, two, three, four, perfectly positive posting about the club, and one half of the repetitive bros brings it crashing down, no doubt t'other will be along shortly. Gee whizz tell about a negative default setting. Good post Smiler keep it up UTM.
Townersrightpeg my world from starting work isn't like smiler's world he knows now. Don't think many would understand on here. But I loved it at BSC on my apprenticeship. A challenge but I did not borrow ( Ian Hunters words ) passed. That wasn't a give me, earned.

My OP wasnt meant to be a commentary on the economy, the manufacturing industries or footballers wages. It was simply noting my pride (apparently shared by most but not all) at the fact that the club we all purport to support is a club with a good ethos that is making a positive contribution in our community. I honestly didnt think there was any scope for cynicism or negativity in there. It goes to show you how wrong you can be. And the negativity came from someone who said yesterday on another thread that the posters on this site were being petty while there was so much bad news in the world, but at the same time blathered on using Rooneys comments as an excuse to take another whack at Warne about choice of dugout and whining about the (non) hacking of information he chose to make publicly available. I think he (they) are a lost cause. I and others have tried, but to no avail. Anticipating a further ridiculous response, and I speak only for myself here, but whatever nonsense you might want to add Gwru (and TH) please dont bother. I wont be reading it and certainly wont be engaging with it. I know enough about mental health to suspect that yours probably isnt very good (whatever you might think - the people who need help most are often the last to realise it), and that you don't do much to improve mine.
