Armad Gnanduillet

Apparently we are in talks with ex Chesterfield, Layton Orient, and Blackpool striker Armad Gnanduillet. Recently returned from Turkish side Altay where he scored twice in 15 games. He's now keen to find a club back here and it seems we're keen......

Don't want him. Where's his championship experience?

He looked a real handful at Blackpool and had a decent goal record, He was mentioned as a potential target about 18 months ago and I would've been pleased to see us sign him when we were in League One, whether he's Championship class is another matter.

However anyone seriously thinking we're going to be signing a proven Championship goalscorer is living on another planet. We've got 2 options, take a risk on somebody who's done it at a lower level, such as Gnanduillet, or get a Kid on loan from a bigger club, like we've done with Hirst. I think I'd rather risk somebody like Gnanduillet on a free than pay a decent fee (by our standards) on the likes of Pigott or Stewart who are equally unproven at Championship level.

This guy will be a good signing for us, helps freshen things up, he is also desperate to prove himself at this level and if we do go down him and Ladapo would be the best strike fore in league 1.

I dont know if he would improve what we have got. I havent seen enough of him. What I do know us that we simply cant afford a 25 year old striker without injury problems and with a track record of scoring goals in the Championship. That player just isnt within our budget. To get someone we can afford we either have to get someone recovering from injury who needs game time (a Becchio/Best), someone past their prime who wants one last contract (a Blackstock), someone young who comes for experience (a Hirst), or someone from abroad or from the lower divisions who we think has the potential to step up. They are all calculated risks. The oven ready proven championship goalscorer in his prime that Gwru is asking for isnt going to happen.

I saw this name yesterday morning had a look at his playing career looks a bit of a journeyman. Just come back from playing in Turkey scored a few goals for Blackpool is he good enough for the championship?. If he does sign see how he goes not expecting much.

I'm not thinking league 1 next season we need a championship forward to give us every chance of staying there. A 28 year old whose been around the lower leagues all his career not for me.

Gwru, name me a player under 28, who has been injury free and who has a track record of scoring goals in the Championship who we can afford. Over to you.

Crawley Town signed Max Watters on a free in the summer, Doncaster had got rid of him after only 5 appearances, he's now scored 16 goals in 18 games and Brighton, West Brom, Swansea and Watford are all now considering spending over a million on him. That's double what we paid for Ladapo, our record transfer. He has no Championship experience. He barely has League One experience.

As I've already said, anyone expecting us to be able to afford a proven Championship goalscorer is living on a different planet.

Joe Pigott was under 20 then in the championship. Decent scoring record now for Wimbledon. Armad Gnanduillet we are going into Tilt territory. Do we ever learn from him & Blackstock?

Wow. You have said you want someone with Championship experience and a track record of scoring goals in the Championship, and not someone who has spent his career in the lower leagues. You have dismissed Gnanduillet because he is 28 and has no Championship experience. Your suggested signing is someone who is 27 and played a total of 270 minutes in the Championship as a kid a few years ago without scoring and has since spent several seasons in League One.

Pigott might be an option, but he fits into the category of someone from the lower leagues who might have the potential to step up to the Championship. If you want to describe him as that, fair enough. But let's not pretend that he is a 'proven Championship striker', which is what you have asked for.

Any other ideas?

Derbyshire averaged a goal every four games. About the same as Ladapo and Smith. He was 28 when we signed him, although I am confused now whether your mate thinks that is too old or not. Apparently Gnanduillet is too old at 28 but Pigott fine at 27, so 28 appears to be the cut off point.

Warne would not be allowed to pay any new player what was sanctioned for Evans to pay Derbyshire and others back then. Those days have gone. He was on money even then that would make him comfortably our highest paid player today. We don't have anyone in our squad now getting anywhere near what past players like Derbyshire, Halford, Broadfoot, Best and others were paid.

It is easy to throw names and comparisons around and carp from the sidelines, but more difficult to actually get the job done within realistic and very real constraints.

That isn't a dig at Tony Stewart, who is a magnificent chairman. It is just how it is.

Does Gwru have any more suggestions?

And I am making the point - which I have already made if you would care to read it again - that Mr Evans was allowed to pay wages that Mr Warne will not be allowed to get close to.  Evans managed to get us to a fourth bottom finish with that added spending power.  Warne is being asked to do it on less.  It isn't a reasonable comparison.  If a 28 year old Matt Derbyshire was available today, he would be beyond our reach.  I'm not sure how to make that any clearer.

How do you know in the tizer last week warney said he had money to spend. How much money has been wasted on players like Tilt giving him a long contract was crackers no doubt if we sign AG he will do the same.

It is impossible to have a half sensible discussion with you so I am not going to try.

Tell your brother to shout up when he has found a striker aged 27 or below with no injury history who has a track record of scoring goals in the Championship and who would be willing to come and join a bottom end Championship club and slot nicely in on the second lowest wage structure in the division. With his genius on the job and an internet connection to YouTube, it shouldn't take him long.

Cheers.

It is not up to me or my amigo we are just poor pensioners quite a bit above our pay grades. When warney took over he was bringing in a state of the art recruitment team if we are to stand any chance of stopping up they need to do some proper business if they don't we are toast.
