smiler ok with that balanced opinion on Warney. He's got to keep us up to win me over. Can't go back to starting again in league 1 with the same manager.
It'd be insanity to start a league one season with a manager who's only managed in that division twice and got promoted both times. Has Coughlan got a job yet?
It makes no sense to keep this manager if we were to be relegated. That is three times I reckon he will walk before it would happen will not want a third relegation on his C/V.
I am not warnes greatest fan but I do not think him leaving this season is a good move for the club. If we are relegated I think it will be time for a change, a manager with 3 relegations in 5 seasons isn't the best person to build a culture of success within the club. I am pleased that Dale Tonge was brought in to give things a fresh look that actually tells us that Warne doesn't think things are going as well as he hoped also I think his current team are not good enough. Regarding signings i accept Smilers points and those of others, however I do not accept that external factors are an excuse for the recruitment team failing to identify and bring in players to cove the gaps and give us options. At the end of the day the only job they have is to research footballers and bring them into the club. Now yes we have financial and location challenges but those are known by the recruitment team before the season starts and also when they accepted the position, they are constraints not excuses. Now let us look at the left wing full back/wing back position. At the moment we are playing wing backs as our current starting formation, we know that Mattock is not a wing back, Clarke is still developing, Robertson is not a wing back, harding is right footed, Jones is right footed and near the end of his career and wiles can fill the role. So we do not have a natural left wing back at the club, so to be nearly 50% of the way into the transfer window and not to have tried to bring in a young natural left wing back for me is failure. We hear about Warne wanting another centre back, that is unbelievable if true and shows that he still thinks a fit mattock is the answer, well it would be if the question was which senior player at Rotherham United that is left footed is a favourite of the manager. Now we also need a striker and Smiler is correct the options open to us are a gamble, all signings are a gamble we cannot afford an Austin (also QPR is in London a huge pull for players) so we either gamble on a lower league player being able to step up or a foreign signing, we do need players and signing at 11pm on the last day of the window is too late and shows a lack of planning and yet again is failure in my view.
In this weeks tizer club has said they are not going for that centre back that one definitely made no sense. Also reported we were interested in Billy Sharp but the blades want to keep him we are also exploring different options than that ex Blackpool forward that has been mentioned.
I agree with Derby that if we are looking to sign players at 11 p.m on the last day of the window then we would have planned very badly.
Derby doesn't like Joe Mattock, of that there is no doubt. He claims he is no wing back and that Robertson is also not a wing back (agree with him about Robbo). He claims Clarke is still developing and i agree with that, and also add he will struggle to ever be a championship or even division one player imo. Mattock is coming to the end of his career, of that there is no doubt. It is now time for him to be our number two left wing/full back. However, our big problem is creating chances. If you look at who has provided the assists for us this season then Mattock sits joint second with Barlaser on two assists. Mattock has played in three less games. On his day Mattock can deliver a telling cross and has done so on several occasions this season. We need a younger player, but to replace him is not easy as there is a dearth in left sided wing backs. Apparently Crewe have a good un, but are wanting big money for him. We have two left sided wingers in Miller and Sadlier, but both lack the ability to defend from what little i have seen of them.
The top assister btw is Matt Olosunde on three. He is also out of contract at the end of the season !!.
Agree with what's been said if we could have got one player before we resumed championship football at Derby it would have been a left full/wing back. You'd think we were in a comfortable position in this league no urgency. By time we sign anyone how Warney's talking another 3 games will have passed. If it's the worst case results we'll be on major catch-up. What we got to lose at Derby let's have Hirst starting with Smith up front. UTM

How do you know they haven't tried? You can criticise them for not signing a left wing back because it's a fact that we haven't signed one and that's fair enough, but you can't criticise them for not trying, because like all of us, you've no idea what is happening behind the scenes. Your opinion they haven't tried is just conjecture.
well we have to extend that lads contract he is a key asset especially in a wing back position, if he plays many more games like the Everton game his agent will not be advising him to sign an extension.
A lot of teams that play with wing backs tend to get a lot of assists from the wing backs, I do agree mattock can do a job but not consistently and he has a recurring back problem, we need to invest in this position and NOW
i know it is hard to get players in but that is not an excuse for a recruitment team to not deliver. What is the point of having a department if we let them off by them just saying "my job is hard, if we had more money it would be easier, whinge, whinge whinge" we are a private enterprise not a public sector waste of time and money organisation, they need to be held to account if they fail, notice I say if.
i still have hope we will bring in some players and they will be in the right position.
For Gwru/THMillers information.
Derbymiller and I dont tend to agree on very much. He knows that as well as I do. I agree with a fair bit but not all of what he has put in that post. But it's a well constructed, reasoned, valuable contribution, so it is a pleasure to read whether I agree with it or not. Just saying.

I'd agree with that as well smiler, I don't agree with a lot of what derbymiller says either but I've no issue with him as his posts are thought out and he's gives reasons for his opinions. That's how debate should be.
Keep it brief & to the point. Reading Warney's pre- Derby press highlights. Keepers we've played this season will take us down. Blackman he's a liability. Johansson if I was the opposition I'd just keep swinging crosses in cause he can't deal with them. It's your starting point a keeper you can rely on. What we got Vickers for? Keeper is the one position you can get an emergency loan in if you are down to one keeper.
I was surprised by that news but if we're going to stick with the wing backs then he isn't really going to get any game time. Makes sense for him to go and play.
For me Miller has shown some promise but at the moment I dont see him having a real impact. If I had to sum him up in one word it would be 'raw'. He seems to have a lot of what it takes but is very rough around the edges. I can think of several occasions when he has got into great positions but not one occasion when he has made a goalkeeper save a shot or managed to deliver a telling final ball.
Northampton are in League One. If he can get games for them in that division it is no bad thing, because I couldnt see him playing much of a role for us this season partly because he isnt the finished article and partly because of the way we seem now to be setting up.
One out, one in. Problem with Warney he's too close to the players. If he gets a left wing back in Wiles or Crooks will have to drop out. But it's got to be done to give us more chance of escaping the drop. Tilt & Vassell need moving on. We've got Robbo fit again, need a replacement up front. I'd like to see if Vickers is our answer in goal.
We are going to be two players light against Derby one out and flo will not be playing against his parent club. Why no left back in we know Wiles can fill that gap unless he risks Robertson. No problem with subs plenty of right backs and Central defenders same problem nothing to put on. With this snow will the game be on checked weather in Derby same as us unless they have undersoil heating.
Miller out on loan. Wtf . Crookes and vassell play ****e but God forbid they should be dropped or loaned out
I would have preferred Miller playing instead secret vassell anyday.
Does anyone see what warne sees in vassell
