Class striker absolute priority

Tonight's unfortunate defeat, when we missed several match winning chances, emphasised the absolute necessity to  strengthen in this department. Vassell has had many opportunities and is very ordinary, the ball is  a hot potato to the selfish Ladapo and the raw Hirst would benefit from returning to Leicester and being loaned to a lower level side.  Now is the time for Rob Scott to earn his corn.

Easier said than done recruiting a Championship quality striker with our budget, any suggestions?

Brad you are correct it isn't easy, the good news the club employ an expert who is paid to do this and has a great track record, I am sure he can do his job if he is allowed to

Ross Stewart I said in the summer transfer window he looked worth going for. But at the time it was said he would cost at least £1 million. So that went on the back boiler.

If Gwru says go for him then it’s a definite no. Virtually all of the players he says are good players end up either in the lower leagues, non league or unemployed (Lamy)

As do his tips for the non-existent managerial vacancy (Parkinson and Coughlan)

The strikers we have are way short of the mark at this level. Smudge scores less than Revs - I just expect him to miss end of, Vassell - I still don't know what type of player he is (but he's not a goalscorer), Ladapo.... I go down Plymouth regular and if you turn the radio down you can still hear them laughing at us - it really gets my goat when commentators get all excited or reference him as a goalscorer just shut up - you're embarassing yourselves. As for Hirst, the comparisons with ya dad are sadly....zilch, can't see you being at Leicester for much longer.

If there's a goal in you ...you're always in with in a shout, unfortunately (again), we go 1 down (or in some cases even 1 up!) and you know it's curtains. Gonna be a really hard slog this season. We've improved in keeping possession (but not game management), but we look toothless, obvious and have no plan B.

Ogbene needs someone when he comes back, as does Olasunde - otherwise they'll be off like a shot.

Where is this class striker coming from with this present managers track record in the January transfer window not holding much hope. Bring Kayode back big piece in the the tizer about him could be oven ready might be our best option. What gets me he was saying all summer we needed cover at left back now running around like a headless chicken trying to bring someone in couldn't run a chip shop.

'Exeter'says he can hear people in Plymouth laughing at us, presumably about selling Ladapo to us. That is a bit rich when you actually consider what is happening now and what has happened. Plymouth currently languish in 14th position in league one, so i am not sure they have a lot to laugh about. Ladapo as i have said before has a decent goalscoring record ( not embarassing myself) at both clubs. At Plymouth he played 45 times and scored 18 times. For us he has played 47 times and scored 18 times. So in his last 92 games he has found the net on 36 occasions. I think that is a fair record.

Now if Plymouth were laughing at his first touch or his contribution in other areas rather than scoring they might be on better ground.

I saw something in Ladapo early last season that he doesn't like being pressurised. Our forwards in championship aren't going to get it all their own way but Vassell 1st forward that needs to be moved on. Didn't watch sports personality of the year, I'm not into motor sports. Watched Judd Trump against Jack Lisowski, they are taking the game to another level. I've always been a Judd Trump fan but Jack Lisowski I'm a fan now want him to win a big tournament.

What you saying then sign Judd Trump to be our goalscorer they really would be laughing in Plymouth and no doubt a few other places BTW this is a football site

I'd agree with all that Whiston01

I would also agree with Whiston01. A lot of those appearances with us have been short sub appearances too. If you look at goals per minute on the pitch, he probably compares favourably with most. His all round contribution might be questionable (I think he has worked quite hard this year when he has played, but I wish he would have fewer touches with his back to goal and just lay it off simply more often) but he has a knack of being Johnny on the Spot and getting one touch tap-ins from six yards out or nearer. Setting the impact of Covid to one side, he has a market value. People will always pay money for someone with his record.

The sort of names being mentioned on here are, in my opinion, neither better players than we already have nor different sorts of player. The likes of Cosgrove. Pigott and Stewart are target men with useful goalscoring records in lesser divisions. I don't see them as improving us much or at all. In my opinion we need someone with real pace who is a threat in behind defences to stretch them a bit. Just my opinion.

Smiler I agree with you and the requirement for pace for me in the summer our best hope was two wingers and a central striker with pace. Can't see one anywhere that we could afford, so we need to take a punt on somebody on loan Davis at Villa may be an option

With regards to pace up front, when we signed Miller and Jozefzoon, Warne made a point of saying they could both play as a '10'. Considering they're both unlikely to start out wide as long as we continue with 3-5-2, I'm surprised he hasn't tried either of them through the middle at some point.

I took Warne's comments as meaning they were options to play in behind a striker. Whether they can play alongside a striker high up the pitch and run in behind, I don't know. If so it might be worth a try. Warne does seems to prefer big strikers up front. Even when we had David Ball, he was someone who liked it short to feet - not really quick and running in behind. It is an Agard/Dicko sort of player I am thinking about.
