I thought sky pundits and commentary was fair enough it not all about the millers. Substitutions poor Miller why? that pen killed the game thought we ran out of steam in the 2nd half. Not worried about this defeat Brentford will sandblast a few team's next match more important.
It's easy to say 'Substitutions poor Miller why?' with the hindsight of the red card. I thought it was pretty obvious why he brought him on, we were 1-0 down and needed a goal, so he made attacking substitutions. It just didn't pay off.
Which ever way the story is spun, it's another sending off, another ban and another penalty given away. it won't help the battle for points regardless of how either team played, it can't have helped.
Looked at it again yes it was a poor clearance from Mattock but as I said Wood could have done better with their 1st goal. I can't understand Warney he gave up when he brought those two non-wingers on & Vassell + midfield lost it's way when Lindsay was substituted. Got to stick with wing backs while January. Did Olosunde have a problem substituting him? he was having a great game.
It was always going to be difficult to get anything from the game last night. We played the 3.5.2 formation and pressed hard in the first half. So much so that we restricted a very good side to play more through the middle and although we produced little in chances we would have been happy with the first half performance. The second half saw Brentford get the wide men in the game and pushed us back. It looked to me that the battle against Bournemouth had took it's toll on a lot of players.
We just do not have the class to get the ball down and make the chances. Our wing backs had no influence on getting the ball into dangerous areas (Olosunde did well) and the middle three although grafters have no x factor in creativity. You cannot fault the effort of Lindsay and he does a great job for us, but he will not be the creative spark we so desperately need. I think Crooks is ok but possibly just short of championship class. Mattock visibly tired and needed to be off after an hour, but Warne just doesn't trust Clarke to do the defensive job which was so needed in the last half hour. I agree with warne. Miller and Josefzoon offer nothing defensively other than being liabilities. They need to operate in the final third and that was something we were not going to do against Brentford. Barlaser is out of the team atm, similar to last season. Without him and Ogbene in the team we will rely heavily on set piece goals. I missed the Bournemoputh game so cannot comment on how we created open play goals. I fear they will be collectors items without Ogbene and Barlaser in the team.
We are going to have to battle to get the points to keep us out of the bottom three. 3.5.2 might be what we are setting up for at the moment. However it quickly becomes 5.4.1 against good teams who push us back, with the wing backs becoming part of a back five and one of the strikers dropping into the midfield. This then results in hoof ball to release the pressure. I am afraid without more quality this is going to happen more often and it will be the team and work ethic that might give us a glimmer of hope for survival.
In terms of the midfield creativity Lindsay is probably the most likely to get us a few goals. if you watch recently he's started to get himself into good area's around the box, did this a couple of times last night and against Bournemouth at the weekend.
I think if he keeps playing the way he is he could get us some goals against sides in and around us.
Probably best not to read too much into that one last night, for me they are a premier league side in waiting. The big one is Saturday to really make a judgment on us.
The first goal, Mattock dove in to try and intercept a through ball and missed it. We were in trouble. Woody blocked the cross. Mattock should have put it in the stand and didnt. Smith sold himself a bit when challenging for it. The ball came straight back in. We had time to reorganise and had the numbers but didnt pick up properly. Woody was the only one to react at all to the knock down and was a bit unlucky that it went through his legs. The consensus seems to be that Olosunde had a great game. He did alright, but a couple of times he dove in and got beaten cheaply and was fortunate that others covered his mistakes (one was when Crooks took a yellow card) otherwise he might have been culpable for a goal conceded. Mattock wasnt so fortunate. My point is that it is very harsh to look at a goal conceded and try and pin blame for it onto individuals. As a defensive unit, they will be disappointed with the goal but it is tough to concentrate and defend error free for 90 minutes against quality opposition and they have and did have the quality to punish you eventually. On the substitutions we were losing and had run out of steam. Brentford were coasting. He replaced two knackered defensive minded wing backs with two fresh legged attack minded wing backs with twenty minutes or so to go. It was a bit of a gamble and it didnt pay off but it made perfect sense.
I don't like Toney's 'going down like he's shot' all the time, but otherwise he is premiership quality and I thought the stand-out difference between the two teams.
Overall I thought we were ok except lacked that bit of quality to create a clear chance other than crosses. I think Barlaser is the only player in our squad who can do that - I'd liked to have seen him on in 2nd half, although Crooks, Wiles and Lindsey all played well.
We miss Chio as well.
Tough league - we need 4 points from Coventry/Derby/Barnsley games coming up at the very least to stay out of bottom 3.
& generally we need a small winning streak, but will it come ??
smiler for me it isn't about blame it was just a fact that mattock made a double mistake and they scored from it, he had a great game on saturday and until they scored was doing okay last night, he looked very tired and that could have been part of the reason for the mistake. I think if we had held them another ten mins we would have got a point, we did well. A much bigger crime for me was QPR game and the Birmingham game because they are the teams that will be near the bottom and we cannot afford bad results from those games.
I think we will be in league 1 next season (assuming there is a league 1) because the lack of crowds will cost us at least 10 points and I cannot see us getting more than 35 points at the moment
Warney he's got to stop keeping everyone happy. You've got to be good enough for the championship. Flo, Miller & Vassell aren't. Going to have to give Clarke a game to keep Mattock fresh. Need Barlaser back in place of Crooks or Wiles. Ihiekwe back at Coventry for Wood. Get to January get Cooper & Kayode back.
You were pretty quiet yesterday gwru and I had naively hoped the posts from my and smiler on the 'Penalties' thread might have actually hit home a bit but I should've known better. It's clearly a case of same sh*t, different day.
Is Barlaser being frozen out better footballer than those two so-called wingers put together Clarke would have been a better option as well wrong decision made. They were the better team but who knows if we had kept it to 1-0 would have been a more interesting end to the game.
Never keep me down till we get it right on the pitch. So your telling me Flo, Miller & Vassell are championship players? If they are I'm watching wrong game.
1. Barlaser isn't been frozen out, he's missed two games, I'd be surprised if he isn't involved on Saturday at some point. 2. It doesn't matter if he's a better footballer than the two wingers because he doesn't play in that position so it's irrelevent. 3. You can't say bringing Clarke on was a better option because you don't know what the outcome would've been and it can never be proven, we could've lost by more, we'll never know. If he'd brought Clarke on and we'd still lost you'd be on here today saying he should've brought Miller on.

I'm not telling you anything about football because it's wasted on you, you don't understand the game at all and you prove that day after day. Like I said on the other thread, try seeking some help, it's for your own benefit.

If you thought those first substitutions worked watching a different game than me killed the game off. As I keep getting informed I know nothing about football how come I knew as soon as they came on game over.

Where did I say I think they worked? They clearly didn't. Just because they didn't work, it doesn't automatically mean that the substitutions you would've made (with the benefit of hindsight) would've worked. Can you not understand that?
They have proved over and over again that they know nothing. They keep coming out with the same crap. They have been told over and over again why it is clearly crap, but they will (as they freely say) never change. We have got someone who thinks he is a football genius seriously suggesting that a young lad who struggled a bit against Donny reserves (I was there and he looked very raw) and is finding his feet at non-league level is ready to mark the likes of Toney and Forss. You couldn't make it up. You cant expect to engage with them because they arent reasonable or rational people. I've officially given up trying. As far as I am concerned they are akin to the weirdos in the pub who everyone awkwardly ignores. Unfortunately the landlord of this pub known as Millers Banter wont bar them so the regulars have to either tolerate and ignore them, go to another pub (unfortunately at least one of them drinks there too) or give up completely.
