For England I don't know I don't watch them that often but players don't seem comfortable in it. For Roth U we've got to find a way of playing 2 up front. Till I saw Clarke didn't think we had the players to play with wing backs. More of a chance now.
It's almost like you don't actually know what you're on about and you make it up as you go along, conveniently forgetting everything that you've already said before.
It was Gwru who brought Evans into the conversation. Different times and different challenges. Evans brought some excellent players to the club but he did also waste a lot of money on players who did very little for us. I dont think that is a contentious statement. The point is that no manager gets it right all the time. When we got to the Championship Evans tended to go for older players in the back half of their careers who we didnt pay a fee for but were on very good money and had experience but were never likely to recoup us a fee. The likes of Derbyshire, Broadfoot, Richardson, Collins, Green, Buxton, Halford (who we did get a nominal fee for), Camp and others. Also some high end loanees. The likes of Jack Hunt cost us plenty in wages. That might be a strategy for short term survival and it just about worked. He also signed a number of players who never did much for us. Loach, Sadler, White, Thorpe, Bowery etc. In my opinion our current recruitment team gets it about right. On the whole our permanent signings are mid twenties or younger and with potential to improve and earn us money. That is a bit riskier in the short term, but is probably better for us in the longer term. Just my opinion. Talk of a must win game a quarter of the way into the season is clearly ridiculous, by the way.
One of the things that Gwru will never acknowledge is that real managers (as opposed to keyboard wannabe managers) dont have the luxury of changing their minds every week. This week Gwru says we havent got a winger. After the Preston game he saw something in FloJo. For 18 months Clarke has been crap, now we are designing our formation around him. Crooks has been not good enough for two years, last week he became the future. Day to day he flips between 442 with one winger (?!), 451, 441, now it's got to be 352 which last week was a system we shouldn't go anywhere near. Harding apparently is 'good enough'. After we signed him and before he had even played for us he was declared not good enough simply because Birmingham didnt want him. Barlaser is good enough, but a year ago he was lightweight. Johansson is written off after one match (which we won) and Gwru prefers Vickers, who he hasnt seen at all. Ihiekwe, Smith, Ladapo, Wood (many times), Olosunde, Thompson are others once binned off who have since done well for us. In the real world, real managers just wouldnt be allowed all those changes of mind. He really does make it up as he goes along and continue on his own merry way as if none of what he has said before ever actually happened. It really is laughable.
What players need is clarity and consistency. Believe me they will not be looking back and saying player x was good and we need to reach that standard. They want to know where am I playing and what are the tactics.
The same goes for posters on this site what went before as no relevance to this season. Mistakes have been made in recruitment and this will happen every season. Recruitment is not an exact science. You make the best of what you have got.
I still feel that I am consistent in advocating what is basically 451 because I do not feel we have the players to operate in any other way. The players need to have settled formation and if possible a settled team. I know the argument will be we need to rotate players because they need to rest physically. Believe me there is nothing more draining for a sportsmen than constant change. Mentally they need to be settled. So I would advocate picking your best side and sticking to it.
We will all have a different opinion of what that side should be but I would point out that Frecklinton, Arnasun, Vaulks and Ajayi are not available for selection.
I can't understand all of this hate against Evans did a brilliant job I loved going to the matches more fun. This 4411we keep playing have to keep hiding behind the sofa I am hoping for a win against QPR but that is it.

Still coming out with this bullsh*t iwru? How many times are you going to say it? Nobody has said they hate Evans, nobody has said he didn't do a good job. You can't argue with the results he got and fair play to him for it. The FACT is that his success came at a cost that was financially unsustainable in the long term. He was also manager here when the loan window was open for the majority of the season, so if a player got injured he could go out and sign a loan player as cover before the next game, Paul Warne doesn't have that luxury. Evans took full advantage of being able to do that.
The only way you wouldn't be able to see that is if you were thick or a troll, and unfortunately for us, you're both.
You must be joking how many times have I read about him being this horrible person on this site done this done that. Going back to Rotherham United 3 Preston North End 1play off semi final best match ever at the NYS UTM.

I found him to be unlikeable but I didn't hate him, I wished him well when at our club and when he left I wasn't really bothered, I'm not alone in those thoughts. He did the job he was brought in to do and he did it well. Would I swap him for what we've got now? Not a chance. I agree that the Preston game in the play off was probably the best ever night at New York. Why that matters in November 2020 I've no idea.
I find you to be a million times more detestable than Steve Evans.
We’ve tried 3-5-2 on the odd occasion since PW has been manager and everytime it’s been abandoned very quickly during the game itself.
QPR is a big game and we need to go there positive and put together a sustained performance over 90 minutes, not just one half or a 20 minute spell near the end of the game.
We go to Q.P.R tomorrow at the early kick off time of 7.pm. I am sure this is a match we are targeting to get something from. One place above us with two more points. They have scored two more goals but have let in three more. It all points to a tight game imo.
Q.p.R have won three games so far in the league. One against Forest when they were dire. They beat Derby who are still dire and an under performing Cardiff. This season Q.P.R. decided to invest in two new forwards (if only we could). Lyndon Dykes an Aussie born with Scottish parentage. They got him from Livingston for an undisclosed fee reckoned to be around 2 million. He has played a few times for Scotland but up to just has not set the world on fire with Q.P.R. His only goals have come from the penalty spot i believe with the R's. The other player they signed was Macauley Bonne from Charlton. He scored eleven times with Charlton from thirty three outings in a team that was relegated. He has a good record of scoring wherever he has been. On Saturday Q.P.R drew 1-1 with Watford after going behind to a very early goal. Many connected to Q.P.R believe this was their best performance of the season and were easily the best team. Apparently they moved the ball around quick and pressed high. Dominic Ball has featured regularly for them and on Saturday he played just under an hour as a box to box midfielder. Many believe his best position is a s a defensive midfield player and that is where i think he will play against us. Another player connected to us once is Ryan manning. He hasn't featured for a while in the squad, so not sure if he is with them or loaned out.
This is not a must win game, but one i think we should be disappointed with if we get beat. Another tight game and another where people will be calling for two up top to take the game to them. I am not one of those. Carry on with what we have been doing, keep the midfield tight and don't give them chance to overrun us . I would take a bore draw with open arms.
Smiler makes some good points, I would state a few things that do worry me. Set pieces, the management team talk about the importance of set pieces especially at this level yet we have been very very poor this season at both ends. On Saturday we wasted every one we had and looked at risk from every corner they had, that is about what happens on the training pitch, nothing to do with budget everything to do with coaching.
Now I agree our budget isn't high, but if you don't score you don't win, losing games by one goal might be classed as ok by some but it is hardly a great target is it when that include****on at home. For me we should have let Smith go he is not going to score more than 5 goals all season, Vassell complete waste of space he has done nothing since he came, should have gone last year never mind this. We had lots of cover at CB so did we really need MacDonald, just a question? That is 3 wages that could have been spent on trying to find a goalscorer. Not saying it would have been easy but we had options and for me we got it wrong.
Just a couple of comments on some good points you have made 'Derby'. Now i am not Vassell's biggest fan but on Saturday it could be argued we only created one chance and that was from an excellent cross from Vassell i believe. Smith got on the end of it and the defender handled it imo and many others. I used to go and watch the millers train at parkgate and believe me the standout performer week in week out in the mini match they have at the end was Vassell. I saw him score some unbelievable goals and i really cannot understand why he has hardly shown that in the league games. He has something but i believe he is very unlikely to show it for us.
On set pieces, work was done all the time when i watched them train. New ideas were always discussed and no doubt about it the set pieces got us in this division. They will be working hard on them now and i expect us to score from one anytime soon. I always feel we look better defending( and attacking for that matter) set pieces when Wood is in the team, as he is the best organiser and leads by example.
Agree on the set pieces. Teams will have done their homework seen as they were a big part of our success last season we need to try something different. Barlaser’s delivery the past few games hasn’t been what it usually is.
Derby where's cover at centre back? Wood he's ready for pensioning off. That leaves us with Icky & A McDonald. I want Cooper back in January along with Kayode. Lamy should have been brought along. Tried at least 4 wingers since he went none good enough.
I said at the start of the season we had Thompson and Tilt (or whatever his name was) a player that was only bought in January and pursued for months. Jones and Mattock can play there if needed as well, Wood is a great player and still can hold his own at this level but it is the number of games you will get from him.
My point still stands, Smith and Vassell are completely useless at this level and we lack goals we should have spent what money we had in that area rather than having a coach load of midfielders
