Sorry but these next two matches we have to be coming away with a minimum of 3 pts
1 up front yes stops us been over run in middle apparently
Not on that showing swansea.walked through us
Even world class striker wouldnt score in warne tactics.
Yes we are suffering with injuries
But wtf crooks isnt a number 10 at this level no one will ever convince me. Yates was same scored the odd goal but not good unfortunately at this level.
We need to play two strikers to compensate.
Change to a back 3
Play 3 1 4 2
Yes we are losing by the odd goal but we are struggling to score even from set pieces
Got some bad news for you this Leopard is not going to change his spots. Read in the tizer he likes 442 but he is going to use the present system most of the time. You are right none of the forwards getting any chances got to change where are the wins going to come from.
Recruitment is the problem. You will get the odd player like Clarke lacking height but he looks to have battling qualities. But EFL is played for at least 4 months on heavy pitches that showed yesterday Flo & Miller too lightweight. You've got to think about these things when you are signing players. We can only play 4 at the back. You can play 2 up front if you only play 1 wide player. But where is the wide player playing in these conditions? Crooks yesterday how did he stop on? I know I wanted Hirst here but it appears he's not the answer. Got to get the keeper right. Two we've used so far will cost us games. No old pals act give Vickers a chance.
That's that sorted then. We need better players, more goals scored and fewer goals conceded whilst operating on the second smallest budget in the division and competing against clubs with several times our resources. Easy. Why didnt anyone at the club think of that?
Unless my fixtures are wrong i have Q.P.R away and then Bournemouth at home. So much easier playing the Cherries than the Tykes!!
Imo we were second best yesterday until a late flurry gave us a bit of hope for a point. To only be 1-0 down after an hour was a bonus. They were first to the second balls, had skill and flair all over the pitch and looked like they could score more goals. We have to give credit to our defence to keep it to 1-0. Also some poor finishing and final ball by them helped us. However, if the referee had got some balls it could have been a draw as only the hardest of Swansea fans would argue that wasn't a penalty.
Blackman has been at Chelsea for eight seasons and has been loaned out in all of them. They must see something in him to keep him on their books. He needs to show a bit more consistency imo. Clarke did well yesterday when he came on. However, i still have nightmares about his 26 minutes showing against Solihull Moors. He was brushed aside that day like he was made of paper. I am not going to go over the striker problems again, but i will say again what i said over a month ago. I do not think Hirst is what we needed this season.
On Tuesday i believe we have a game at Q.P.R where we have to get something. They are a team who will be in that group of eight or nine who will be battling to stay up. We had seven first team players out yesterday and for a club like ours that makes it very difficult to get a point anywhere let alone at a promotion pushing side.
whiston01 you are impartial within our budget did we get recruitment right? cause I can only see Harding & Barlaser good enough we've signed. How did we end up with these two keepers we've used so far? I don't trust either in goal. Sure Warrington had something to do with the Vickers signing. He's goalkeepers coach he should have the major say in who we sign & who plays.
It is too early to say imo whether we got recruitment right Gwru. We have had two good young goalkeepers playing for us in the last three seasons. This time we have gone for Blackman who has experience and been at a top club for a long time. Johansson is only 22 and is one for the future. Vickers is only 24 i believe and has no championship experience but we needed a goalkeeper because Price went as a coach at Bournemouth. I do not think we are as strong in the goalkeeping division this season but time will tell whether i am correct.
We have recruited McDonald, Barlaser, Sadlier, Harding and Miller. i think they are good signings for our available budgets. In the lone market i am yet to be convinced by either Josefzoon and Hirst. The first one has a hard act to follow in replacing Ogbene (our best player imo) and my views on Hirst are well known. So for me yes i think we have done ok and i believe our supporters have to set our sights a little lower but still believe we have a chance of staying up. I heard Paul the miller and his ridiculous assessment of the millers last night on Radio Sheffield. I know Paul well and although a good lad and miller supporter for years he says and does strange things. Like the time we had finished training at Herringthorpe. He decided to dive into the pool at the leisure centre. The problem was the water was around a foot deep and his head hit the bottom. Blood all over the place and a duck egg for weeks on his head. Lol
In regards hirst warne is playing him like ladapo in a formation that doesnt suit his playing style.
A player that much promise doesnt go crap.over night.
Warne 1 up front suits only one striker and thats smith who is not exactly prolific with goals. Our strikers need a partner crooks is t the solution
Yes we picked up in 2nd half when by all rights the game would have been out of sight.
We are on a small budget
Agincourt outnumbered and out manoevred but having a higher ratio of less armoured troops enabled us to kill the armoured french stuck in the mud.
My point is we haveinferior players individually but could be better with the right formation and players. In right positions
I think we have recruited about as well as we could with the resources we have.
For a variety of reasons, not all recruited players work out as well as you would hope. Not for any club. Evans' ratio of getting it right was very low, but he was allowed to re-do it over and over again. He signed about a dozen players on permanent deals who played less than ten games for us. Warne does not have that luxury. Stewart indulged Evans until the money ran out, but those days have gone.
Reading this thread you might be forgiven for thinking that we are not doing very well. In fact we are competing against some very good sides and in almost every game. Our goal difference is testament to that. We are outside the relegation zone. We are currently the best performing of the three clubs that came up. No surprises here - the three who came up to the Championship are all in the bottom few and the three who came down to the Championship are in the top six. If you match where we are with where we can reasonably hope to be, we are probably about on target.
There are things we can improve on, and I am sure the management team is very well aware of them. What we mustn't do is throw the baby out with the bathwater. We do look quite solid on the whole defensively and we can't throw that away chasing more goals. It is a difficult balance to strike. In my opinion it is about making better decisions when we get into good areas and making the most of them, not necessarily simply a formation change. But that is just my opinion.
The main point I am making here is that we are doing enough things well to make me think we might stay up. The cynics are always quick to jump in and point out what everybody is doing wrong. In my opinion we are doing plenty of things right. Give come credit for that, and look where we can build on it. It will be incredibly difficult, but if we were to end the season with a point a game (our current average) and a decent goal difference, we would have every chance of starting next season in the same division and with a club in good shape on and off the pitch.
Good post Smiler I think the injuries have killed us losing Ogbene I think just 4 games in was a big blow as he got us up the pitch thereby giving our defence a break something out other wingers try to do losing Macdonald S was also felt he was arguably our best player up till then the best thing we can hope for is for Warne to keep shuffling the pack (not easy with only 18 outfield players) hopefully picking up enough points till January when we can (hopefully) strengthen again we need to be above the bottom 3 or if we are in the bottom 3 at least not be too many points behind to give ourselves a chance it will be a tricky balancing act as the 4 missing players aren’t back till February so does he include them in the 25? Obviously we need a goal scorer too Really hard balancing act coming Dead easy this management lark eh
Where was Evans over indulged the first two full seasons slightly above budget and slightly below. The next season money went paying managers up. He did bring some rubbish in two examples of real quality Frecklington £50,000 then the cherry on too of the cake Arnason. Played last week against England 38 captain of his country represented Iceland at the world cup and Euros. Kept Kane quiet nearly scored sold him for £400,000 best player we have seen at the NYS. The present manager has told us we have the players for the job up to him to prove it.
Did not expect much against Swansea lucky with them hitting the post and the block by Harding was a penalty no luck there. This next match is must win against QPR hope we can do the business.
We haven't got the ability for the championship so we'll have to try & out muscle other sides. With Clarke showing up well at Swansea I'm going with Hillsborough 3-5-2 Keeper?; Icky A Mac Wood; or Harding in place of Wood Harding or Olosunde Lindsay Barlaser Wiles Clarke; Ladapo Smith

Another good thread ruined by negative, historical, irrelevant tosh!
Meanwhile, back in the real world, it's useful to keep reminding ourselves of what our expectations were for this season. Most, if not every member of this board, would have been happy with 4th from bottom at the season's end.
I think PW is a victim of his own success. Because he has managed to bring in some good quality at bargain basement prices, and because much of the football we have played has been easy on the eye and of a quality rarely seen at NYS previously, we naturally tend to up our expectations and consider that we should be taking points from these highly professional and extremely well-resourced outfits.
In reality, every game will be a struggle. If we manage to pick up the odd win or draw, it will be a major achievement. However, I doubt we're going to go on a run of games which is going to boost us very far up the table.
From what I've seen so far, we stand a very good chance of staying up. If we achieve that aim, I think we will have had a fantastic season!

Haven't you spent all season saying we can't play 3-5-2?
I'd be happy to see us try 3-5-2, I suggested it weeks ago as I think he we have the players to suit the formation, especially after the injury to Ogbene.
However, A quote from gwru less than a week ago:
'Anybody wanting Roth U to play with wing backs look at England who've got the pick of English players but it doesn't work.'
