Seen the article in the tizser I was there in the main stand stomping my feet. Malcolm Mcdonald last game Gerry Forrest tackled him off he went. One of the the great nights in my time watching the millers can anyone else remember it.
I was there all I can remember about the game was Forrest looked nothing at the time tackle on McDonald & Finney scoring. I prefer looking forward foremost to when crowds are allowed back in the NYS.
I was there in the Millmoor Lane Stand. A great night and to come from 1-0 down to win comfortably was one of our greatest nights. I remember going to Reading i think in the next round after drawing at Millmoor. we lost there and never turned up.
As i have said previously my memory is shot. For all these years i thought it was John Flynn who made the tackle on 'Super Mac'. I will bow to TH and Gwru's superior memory.
whiston01 you could be right whose tackle it was on Macdonald. I'm not 100 per cent certain on that. Finney scored at the railway end is that correct? Tell you my favourite memory from Millmoor best feeling I've ever got from a goal. Towners goal against Sheff U at the kop end. Ronnie Moore swung ball over from opposite side of the pitch Towner went past their full back like he was stood still to slot the ball home then Towners famous celebration.
I'd suggest you are all wrong re the tackle on McDonald. Pretty sure Brecks was yer man. Was it Stapleton who scored for them in the Rly End. Finney, Gwyther and I believe Green for us. Quite a night tho'. Those were days when 1st Division sides would field their first team when up against minnows in the League or FA cup games.
Definitely correct on goalscorers Calypso, but Breck would have been well out of position. 'Super Mac' went down in the right central defensive position. I wouldn't argue with Forrest but i would be amazed if it was Brecks.
Its a bit vague in my memory where on the pitch the tackle went in Whiston, somewhere in the middle of the park over by the Millmoor Lane side as I seem to remember. The only reason I say Brecks is because a big mate of mine back then was a huge fan of McDonalds from his Newcastle days and with his move to the Gunners, the Arsenal became his second team; so the Millmoor clash had divided loyalties for him.
McDonald had just returned from a bad injury, so when the tackle went in my mate was furious and for the rest of the night he continually berated Brecks. So while I don't distinctly remember the tackle, its my pal's reaction I remember the most, so I wouldn't argue the point, and I could well be wrong. Tremendous night to be a Miller all the same.
