Looked at the supreme rerun the winner got knocked back at the 2nd last hrd, 2nd didn't get the best of rides. Could be anything coming out of that race but couldn't see a Ch hrd winner. Also looked at the rerun of the Albert Bartlett there wasn't much between the 1st 4 so hard to evaluate how good a race it was. Cheltenham festival at the time just enjoy there's nothing like it, goes so fast. Hope we are all safe for next years festival be the same buzz for me there's always been since 1973.

The Supreme Hurdle winner has a worse record than the Triumph for finding next years winner. I think you have to go back to Bula in 1970 to find next years champion hurdle winner. A few that were placed in the Supreme won a champion and these include Jezki, Binocular and Buveur D'Air. Brave Inca won the Supreme in 2004, placed in the Champion in 2005 and then won it in 2006. It's not a race like the Triumph where i will be looking at the winner to go on and win the Champion. Perhaps with Goshen falling when clear he now has the Triumph win monkey off his back and he goes and wins it next year. I will be looking elsewhere though as you know. Stay safe Gwru.

This will be my last post on horse racing until October. A mate of mine who writes in horse racing publications has told me that the racing world are preparing for a return of racing sometime in May. it will be behind closed doors for quite a while and they are looking at basing centres in Newmarket and Newcastle. There is a major worry about the impact on the value of horses if the lockdown goes on for months. It is the breeders who are pushing for a return, especially the impact it will have on 2.y.0 and 3 .y.olds . Paul Warne in the Advertiser indicated that football would return behind closed doors and he said no way are authorities going to wait until whenever it is safe for fans to attend again.

Idea to extend this Flat racing season. It goes on too long now for me. I don't want NH season getting into full swing delayed. Hope who represents NH got a say in this.

Keep the Queen happy and let Royal Ascot go ahead? They're having a laugh! I thought that the Covid19 pandemic was supposed to keep us in lockdown for months to come?

Same with premiership football said to back in weeks when covid-19 is still at a peak. If football comes back then social distancing it must be over. Open pubs up at the same time may as well.

Plans are in place Gwru for racing to restart on May 23rd at Newmarket. It looks like Saturday and Sunday will hold six races apiece. These will include Pavillion Stakes, Nell Gwynn, Craven Stakes, Greenham, Fred Darling, Brigadier Stakes plus six others.

On the weekend of 30/31st May races will include, Lockinge, Palace House Stakes, Yorkshire Cup, Dante, Musidora, Cecil Frail.

Then on the first weekend in June , races will include, 1000 gns,2000 gns, Coronation Cup, Pretty Polly, Newmarket Stakes and Bronte Cup.. I believe this will be announced very soon. However, a setback for European racing happened when Germanys card on Monday ( restart date) was cancelled and will now not go ahead.

whiston01 it's something. I always try to watch 2,000 gns, Derby. Goshen been reading got a mark of 88 on the flat, doesn't want any firm in the description of the ground being aimed at the Ebor at York. If that marks high enough to get it in the Ebor I don't know. Will have to be a well above average horse to win an Ebor & next year a CH Hrd. Keeps my interest while October. Hope NH season when it comes to then sticks to the planned fixtures starting with the Charlie Hall at Wetherby end of Oct or early Nov. Been to that race a few times.

I think the bottom rated horse in the Ebor last year had an official rating of 105. Goshen is a seriously well handicapped horse on the flat and could well reach that figure if Moore can get runs into him. Sea Pigeon and Alderbrook were champion hurdle winners who had high ratings on the flat but won beyond the age of five. I still think Goshen has a big ask as a 5 year old but not impossible. I agree with you lets get NH back at its proper time and look forward to Wetherby for the Charlie Hall.

Been reported in the media that horses are back in training in Lambourn, West Berkshire. Windsor Castle and Ascot Racecourse are not too far away down the road. Government to announce a ' road map' next Sunday in relation to easing people back to work. Could we be seeing Royal Ascot going ahead at some point? Behind closed doors of course.

I'm sure there are plenty of good viewing points on the fringes of the racecourse. Will some Covidiots be going along with binoculars in hand? Who knows? I'll bet some of the senior Royals are now chomping at the bit to get things under starters orders. Her Majesty has always been a favourite of mine. She's my banker bet and always a winner.

Up The Millers! Up the Allotment! Up The Royals!

Queen, she's privileged. Is it the countries money funding her racehorse ownership! Another thing I don't like about flat racing at the top level rich Arabs have taken over in England especially when there are question marks against them taking over at Newcastle FC over alleged human rights issues. When I started following horseracing in the 70's both codes were the people's sports but now flat racing at the top level is way out the working man's league. Give me JP Mcmanus anytime he's upfront with his dealings: racehorse ownership. A fair man, our/my privilege to see him at the big NH meetings.

The latest from the racing powers that be are now saying racing is unlikely to return before early June. Common sense is prevailing imo.

It now looks like racing is gearing up to start on June 1st. In the early days there will be 13 meetings (7 in the south, 4 in the North and 2 in the midlands). Consisting of 8 races a meeting, to include 75 handicaps, 12 two year old races and 17 maidens.

Richard Hughes believes it would be safer to go Lingfield Park than Hyde Park. Not sure where his evidence is though.

The BHB have now released details of a June 1st start for horse racing

June 1st Newcastle

June 2nd Kempton, Yarmouth.

June 3rd Kempton, Yarmouth.

June 4th Newcastle, Newmarket.

June 5th Limgfield, Newmarket.

June 6th Lingfield, Newcastle, Newmarket.

June 7th Haydock, Lingfield, Newmarket.

June 8th Chelmsford, Haydock, Lingfield.

Flat racing is not my preferred form of racing but it has to better than watching Judge Rinder, Pointless and Countdown.

Enjoyed reading your posts on here whiston01 - especially the bit about the science behind what to back and where - did you research Beverly racecourse in particular to look for the trend or was that a favourite track of yours? Why not Doncaster or Wetherby etc.

Sorry i am late in responding New Yorkshire. I have only just spotted your post. In the seventies the draw bias at somewhere like Chester where a low draw was essential and still is to a certain extent was well known. However, the 5 furlong draw at Beverley where high numbers (drawn nearest the rail) had an even bigger advantage imo. You ask about other tracks. Doncaster in the seventies over the straight mile favoured horses drawn high over a mile on quick ground. The winner of the Lincoln in those days had to be drawn high. a low draw was rendered useless. So much so that to get rid of the bias for a couple of seasons they ran it on the round course. There is still some mileage in draw bias and i am currently looking at tracks that have a bias at distances up to 7 furlongs. Tracks like Ayr, Chepstow, Chester, Goodwood, Lingfield, Newbury, Newmarket (July), Redcar and Thirsk all have some sort of bias. The big worry is the gound, selective watering and movement of rails. These have a big say and at a place like Beverley although i still believe a draw near the rail (now a low draw ) has some advantage it is nowhere near what it was.

I will post up a few posts as the season gets under way if you like New Yorkshire. I am no expert but know a bit. I will repeat again i have forgot more than Gwru knows.

I have my eyes on a couple of horses early season. One which has never ran before but i do know the stable believe it is very special. This horse is an unraced 3.Y.O by Karl Burke called Do You Love Me. It cost a fortune and is by Gallileo....... The other one is a 3.y.o filly trained by William Haggas. I saw it win at Donny on awful ground when not fancied. Her name is Domino Darling. She could well be an oaks filly. The Burke filly is entered for the Irish Oaks and bizarrely has an entry in the derby. Fillies don't win the derby and only very rarely run in it. I think that indicates how high they rate her though.

whiston01 I've been through all draw advantage thought soft ground lincoin low numbers were favoured. That could have been when it was run on the round course.I don't bother on here cause apart from 2 they are all Warney's boys. He isn't & they won't be gamblers. I know I'm best tipster MM as ever had but can't be arsed with the flat. Restarting off on the all weather that's like starting tennis off in Clifton park! Another thing I don't like how the rich Arabs have taken over English flat racing at the top level. Think jockey club turn a blind eye not like football who are questioning them on human rights issues & broadcasting mainly football illegally. What have you forgot more than me? It's about finding winners. I won't be studying form of a horserace till October Chepstow NH.
