whiston01 TH I respect your views. But this is a sports site. Running the Grand National behind closed doors is like Richard without Judy. It's the people's race. Run it whenever Aintree can be full for that day. May June ect...
Running the Grand National behind closed doors? Sorry, but I had to chuckle. They would need a really long perimeter fence and several hundred security staff to try and keep people away from the racecourse. I'm sure the police wouldn't be too happy about the situation. They'll be too busy patrolling the streets and herding people back into their houses. Lots more people will be experiencing withdrawal symptoms due to the lack of sporting events taking place. I'll just go and help my mates up at the allotments. No cabin fever for me just yet.
I will go slightly off post something that might cheer you lot up. Bit of good news in these gloomy times. Been out today for my usual Sunday shandy guess what they have put a soap dispenser in the men's toilet I am absolutely astounded still coming down from the ceiling.
Going back to the Grand National behind closed gates chances of being another Hillsborough thousands outside the gates. Got to be suspended in advance now it looks likely it won't be run in front of the public on it's original date.
Measures announced today I can't see any professional football before May. There's got to be a cut off point when this season is declared void. Another month players won't be match fit. I'd sooner get to August a new season as we started this season if that means 44 games again in league 1 so be it. Clubs will have to compensated for loss of income. The rich will have to support the not so rich.
More chance me getting a birthday card from Brad the Miller than EFL clubs getting anything from prem clubs. Maybe some might take them to court lawyers will be happy.
If they can cancel the Grand National it's small change calling this football season void. Been watching the debate on SSN they weren't bothered about teams who rely on season ticket sales in the summer to keep things ticking over. Of course Leeds want the season completing along with Liverpool & WBA there'll be others but majority want to be in business start of next season. A football season runs from August to the following May got to maintain that.
Well said whiston ignore the media especially BBC, sky, itv etc they spread fear and lies. Use organisations like WHO, fullfact.org and the European centre for disease control, medical stuff from journals like the Lancet.
I like a drink but miss Roth u more also want NH horseracing snooker back. I'm going to follow the government guidelines & stay out of pubs/clubs. If we want this virus under control sooner we've got to make sacrifices. I still want a cut off point when the EFL say this season is void. Premiership clubs can do what they want. Clubs lower down need support, income from season tickets for next season which I don't want to start more than a month late. Thoughts.
It's a difficult one to get right Gwru, what to do next. As i said before we have to go on what the experts are saying.
The championship clubs have told the EFL they are ready to play behind closed doors to complete the season at all costs. They have also asked the EFL to urgently address the potential £50 million black hole that is facing div 1 and 2 clubs. At the moment the season is suspended till 3/4/20. I think everybody believes it will go on longer than that. Some clubs in the bottom two divisions are living hand to mouth. Missing 5/6 home games could be disastrous and lots of clubs are apparently unable to access business interruption insurance. The EFL will have to look at compensating clubs and will be asking the sports minister what is available. I think they will have to act quickly to save jobs and clubs.
If coronavirus puts clubs over the edge it could be argued its not because of financial mismanagement, but because of cir***stances. It therefore could go into administration to get the benefits of protection and not get any future points deductions. Worrying times. Personally i believe the best bet looks like making this season void. I just do not believe there will be enough time to complete this season without having a major impact on next season. Very unfortunate for a lot of clubs including us but if there is a shutdown until June it is the only option. Some Clubs will then rely on the compensation to survive. Let us hope no clubs go to the wall and more importantly we are all safe to watch football again whenever it starts back up.
whiston01 agree with all that. I don't want to lose clubs down to league 2. If this season can't be completed in time for next season to start at a reasonable date got to call this season void. Clubs to be compensated for loss of income there's money available.
No one has any idea what is going to happen I am not in favour of playing behind closed doors. The season is over some team's will never get any momentum back If that is decided what to to. On the other hand if the season is decided void not fair on team's in promotion position. The EFL is in a tight spot at least if the season is over clubs know where they stand. Just got to hope some compensation money is available. I will end on a bit of good news Eurovision Song Contest has been cancelled and recordings of Eastenders suspended.
If we are going to play behind closed doors why aren't we doing it now? What difference will a month make? Clubs suing cause they could have gone up or won the premiership what grounds? We are all being asked to make sacrifices. All football fans coming out of this & being able to see their side again what matters. Outside of football as many people in the UK as possible still being here when this virus is under control is the priority. Hope that's in the forecast 12 to 14 weeks since the virus started here.
Almost every sport have canceled or suspended rather than play behind closed doors. That's soulless, I'm not interested in streaming games. Socializing at games it's a major part of the enjoyment. Keep saying there's got to be a cut off point when this season is declared void. Next season needs to start by September, a full season.
