Thinking of the squad we had in the Championship last season and the players we let go - have we really missed any of them?

Looking at the wingers - Williams, Newell, Taylor and Forde - would any of them deserve a place in the current team? IMO, absolutely not. I know we're playing at a lower level but this four rarely inspired me.

Towell - I reckon in Crooks and Barlaser we have two players more talented and more creative than Towell ever was.

Ajayi - a great player for us but I don't feel we're particularly missing him because Ikky is just as good, if not better, as a defender.

Vaulks - never his biggest fan. A big heart but not a brilliant footballer. He wouldn't displace either Barlaser or Crooks imo.

All in all, I think we've improved dramatically as a squad and that the transfer business we have done since last season has been quality.

I think bar Ajayi and Vaulks who were always going to leave we haven’t missed anyone else. I never got the impression we really wanted to keep any of the wingers who left, I think at a push Warne would have wanted Taylor to stay the most.

Your joking aren't you. Vaulks was streets ahead of Crooks who I don't know how he's in the side for Lindsay.

Crooks is twice the footballer that Vaulks is. He's also verging on MoM every time he plays. No jokes, just reality!

Does Crooks ever look like scoring apart from tap ins? Over that distance he's high wide & handsome! Never be a championship player.

Vaulks is wholehearted. I wish him the best. But the fact is that he has played two and a half league games in an average Cardiff side. Warnock didnt pick him and Harris isnt picking him. In a recent thread on their forum, none out of about thirty five respondents picked him in their preferred starting eleven. Either Cardiff have a plethora of class midfielders or Vaulks isnt impressing. Personally I dont rate him as a Championship footballer, and I dont think he would improve our current side, but he would do someone a job in league one.

Roth U at best are just escaping relegation from the championship. Next season if we do go up Barlaser won't be here. Vaulks would walk into our midfield, wage share with Cardiff we'll be able to pay more don't think many of our fans would object to that.

We are top of League One. How can we possibly be just escaping relegation from the Championship?! If we get promoted, there's more chance of Barlaser being here than Vaulks.

Vaulks is comfortably a championship player it’s just not worked for him there. Which is a surprise seen as Cardiff value someone like him usually, long throw versatile and committed.

The best tap-in was the thirty five yard chip over the keepers head after he'd picked the ball up in his own half. Do you have eyesight problems gru?

Slam in the lamb! Lamy I'm not saying start him at Peterborough but now he's our 2nd choice winger. Think at last Warney's seen it.

gwru - for goodness sake, what has this comment got to do with the OP? If your intention is to dissuade posters from raising issues for discussion, you're doing a damn good job. MM have you sussed but this site is still drowning in your detritus.

I'd have to say that I am in the Vaulks would get a game here camp. I dont think he'd be number 1 in the position but he would get game time. Not missing anyone from last year but then again its a completely different league - championship and league 1 are worlds apart.

I'd agree with that NY. His versatility would make him a good squad player. Probably not first choice in any position though. Almost all of the players we let go are warming benches up and down the country. Vaulks at Cardiff. Purrington cant currently get in a Charlton side that is dropping like a stone. Dom Ball was hooked at half time a couple of weeks ago at QPR and is not currently in the side, although he has played in most games this season. Newell making no impact at Hibs. Forde not a regular at Oxford. Jon Taylor doing ok at Donny. Ajayi is the only real success story and the only one I really miss, but as GlennMiller says that blow has been softened by Ihiekwe's outstanding form. I think we have a sell on clause for Ajayi. That might net us a few Bob down the line.

Vaulks would walk into our side. Championship player at our level. If anyone thinks Crooks is a championship player at any level I want some of what they've had!

Vaulks averages a goal every nine or ten games. Crooks a goal every five or six. Crooks is the bigger, stronger and quicker player and technically better. That's an honest opinion.

I have nothing against Vaulks. He did well for us.

I thought Crooks looked as good as anyone in the Championship last season particularly as he came in halfway through the season into a relegation battle, which can't have been easy.

What has gone wrong for Vaulks at Cardiff, gwru? Do Harris and Warnock not have your eye for a player? Cardiff fans are moaning like hell about their midfielders but there are no calls for Vaulks to be given a run in the side. He has only really featured in reserve line ups in cup games. Can you offer any sort of considered reply, rather than just a plain assertion?

Smiler, why are you expecting a considered reply !

These are some of his recent comments. Keep Vassell away from the first team..... Keep playing same players who will never be good enough..... I expect us to win, might not with this starting line up.... Does Crooks ever look like scoring apart from tap ins...I'd be sending Barlaser back to his parent club.... Can't do anything about Wood till end of season....Mattock and Smith don't seem players this season....Wouldn't cost a fortune to get shut our management team.... Crooks never looks like an athlete never mind a footballer...

My only input on here will be the odd fact. I will leave it to you Smiler, Glenn and a few others to carry on the discussions. I prefer not to waste my time and energy. Good luck lads.
