As Smiler says, I have never made a claim to be always right. I leave that to your bezzy mate. Do I slag Warne off for not picking "my boys". No. Do I go to home games....mean all? No. That would involve 10000 miles per year of travel. We go to maybe five home games and maybe five away games per year, such as Southend and Oxford.
The one thing that I do know is that learning the game from pros such as John Aldridge and Pat Nevin, in the twilight of their careers, when I was in my late teens gave me a good understanding of the professional game.
I will go back to a question I keep asking when the club was about to go bust did you go. When the chips are down you find out who the real fans are.
We've all got our stories to tell. I think I'm right in saying that GlennMiller was on the High Seas for much of the DVS period helping to uphold democracy and protect the Free World. Hats off to him. I did something similar (not) in Leicester for five years and simply couldn't afford to travel to every home game. Needs must. Football is a sport and a hobby. Work, family, health and so on take priority. Does that all add up to you being a 'better supporter' than everyone else? Of course it doesn't. Nor does it mean that you know more than anyone else or have a more qualified opinion. Well done for going to home games over a long period of time, but it doesn't make you special and it earns you no privileges. Get over it.
I do appreciate not everyone can attend games I don't go to any away games. I am just trying make the point I am a genuine supporter. I will stand up for myself that is the working background I come from I suspect gwru is the same. I don't pretend to know everything I do hold very strong opinions.
Did you feel more special when you were one of (as you see it) the 'real fans'? Perhaps it rankles with you when you see supporters who in your mid never saw those tough but special times and sit now in their comfy seats in our shiny stadium. Those fake fans hey, who weren't there when you were. What right have they got to like the imposter Warney and his new fangled ideas when it was you that kept the fire burning. It is all beginning to make sense in a weird sort of way.

If you have at least 2 people trolling you I think you must have been trollied. It would make my day to have a troll I have not seen anything like that on this site. Just a few moaners look on the bright side. While some of you were enjoying a good moan I saw Vaulks on the red button. Great goal played well shame only me and gwru mentioned it last night well done Will.
It probably wasn't mentioned because Vaulks is no longer our player, he's a Cardiff player, we happen to be Rotherham supporters with no affiliation to Cardiff City their players, manager, or anything else to do with Cardiff.
But what most of us appreciate is the contribution the lad made to the club and work in the community; and while many of us were sorry to see him leave, we accepted he had earned the right to move onto bigger things. We wish him every success in his career development and congratulate him on his goal; I for one hope that this is only just the start for him. But for us he is history and we move on, something you and your chum seem unable to do.

I did make it back for one game at DVS Smiler. It involved a 21,110 miles round trip - I wonder how many miles TH totted up travelling to and from games during the DVS era?
My first game at Millmoor was a 4-2 victory against Plymouth Argyle (prize for anyone who IDs the year!). However, length of supporting or number of matches attended is not really important or relevant. If you're a Rotherham fan, you're a Rotherham fan and I enjoy discussing the team's fortunes with supporters of any vintage. I'll be taking my daughter to the Wimbledon game (rarely watches Rotherham unless we're playing at Wembley or when my brother's seat is vacant due to yet another foreign holiday), and her boyfriend who's a season ticket holder at the Etihad! I know it will be a great day because it will involve the ritual of a couple of pints in the NY Tavern with a group of people who are Rotherham through and through, who like nothing better than a pre game discussion, exchanging views (often with opposition fans who get in there) but in full knowledge that no-one's point of view is more important or more informed than anyone else's. Anyone claiming 'status' for time served or who uttered the immortal words 'tell me different, I'm more right than wrong' would be given short shrift!
I get the feeling that the majority of people on this site would fit in well - and for all I know, they probably already do!
Time I've been on this site under two different usernames for a number of years I've found smiler & GlennMiller to be reasonable posters. I feel I fit in more on here than MM. Doesn't worry me how long people on here have been watching Roth U or how often you go. I want the New York stadium home seats filling so need some less regular supporters. I look forward that's why I'm thinking if we get it right championship next season. If I was picking the side to do that would be playing the 4-5-1 formation. Iversen; Olosunde Ihiewke Wood Mattock; Ogbene Barlaser Lindsay Crooks Koroma; Smith. Good back up with Thompson Tilt Wiles Haks Vassell Ladapo. My view. ps I would have sooner had a wild card like Lamy in for Haks but that's not too be for the rest of this season.
1966/7 Glenn? Apologies for not being there. Poor effort on my part, I know, but i wasnt born until 68.
Not a bad guess Smiler but a couple of years earlier - it was in sepia! I can't believe there are people on this site who didn't see England win the World Cup!

Never have and maybe never will. It isn't happening any time soon.
My first games would have been in 1970 but as I was two I have no real memory of them. My first vague memories are of my grandma shouting at Carl Gilbert for being idle, which might have been 1972-ish. For some reason Carl Gilbert was to my grandma what Matt Crooks is to gwru. She had no time at all for him. I grew up thinking he was awful, but looking back the records say got 40 odd goals in just over 100 games so he must have been decent. As you were in your twenties then Glenn, maybe you can confirm?
I have a vague memory of Carl Gilbert's debut against Swansea (?) when he scored 4 goals (?) on a Tuesday night (?). Everything else is crystal clear! As you say Smiler, his goal scoring record speaks for itself but I don't recall him being a worker such as Gwyther or Revell. Used to pass his house in Todwick on the school bus, full of Blades and Owls fans, and if we ever saw him there was a lone cheer amongst a cacophony of abuse! By the way, I take exception at your assertion that I was in my 20s in the 70s - cheeky young whippersnapper!!

I'm old enough to have seen the 66 World Cup final glenn and what an afternoon. Saddened for me only from the fact that my boyhood hero Jimmy Greaves sat on the bench throughout. What a luxury to have such a prolific goal scorer sat on the bench. All the kids were out playing footie with old tennis balls when the dust had settled, re-living the glory.
By the way does anyone of you older Millers remember a player for us called Roy Massey? A left sided player if memory serves as I seem to remember him driving forward from the left, but I don't remember whether he was a winger or a full back. I dont seem to see him featured on any of the old programmes I have, or am I getting muddled in my dotage?
I can remember seeing Roy Massey play for us can't remember much about him. Can anyone remember Laurie Sheffield? he was around the same time playing for us. Not exactly sure but could have been brought in to replace John Galley. Not a success here centre forward not over tall.
Laurie Sheffield I can remember him we got relegated that season when he played for us. He was in the Leeds team that played for them in the early sixties against Liverpool in a cup final. Some sad news announced Dave Watson not very well only millers player that went on to play for England.
Laurie Sheffield never played for Leeds. Checked. Think Tommy Doc brought him in. Sad news about Dave Watson have we had a better player in my time? 65- present day.
