FA cup and Joke(EFL) Trophy

We should make a couple of changes for Saturday. Will be no good for morale if we get thumped by a non league side.

Look at West Han they haven’t won a match since they got a hiding off Oxford.

As lower league fans we can’t moan at the big clubs not taking it seriously when we don’t want to take it seriously ourselves.

If a player is struggling with a injury or is on his fourth booking rest them apart from that play our best side. I would have thought the BBC could have shown the match live but they have never shown any interest in Rotherham. SKY over the last few years have given us some air time. The red button had me cowering a lot last season.

Warney's pre Maidenhead press highlights. Clarke definitely won't play, sounds like Robertson won't be involved. Mattock's not been training. Wood he's not right he says. Icky & Crooks had problems. Thompson he's fit. I wouldn't mind seeing Thompson also Hinds see what they can do.

Might be time for John Breckin to get some dubbing on his boots. He'd probably turn out if asked.

Dubbing refers to adding sound to a video/movie. Dubbin is something that you used to treat football boots with back on the day. Sorry, I am a pedant.

Bloody predictive text. You're right to point it out. I'm old enough to have seen a lot of dubbin in my youth. Not sure whether it's still a thing or not.

A quick google search reveals that dubbin is still widely available. Where I went to school we had a PE teacher who had played top level rugby not so many years ago. He arranged regular school trips to see England in internationals or against Barbarians etc, and he always (no kidding) took his boots just in case. Part of me likes to think that John Breckin might still do that.

Was he an Economics teacher by any chance Smiler!? Gone are the days of pre-sport preparations - oiling and knocking in your cricket bat, dubbin on football boots and the casey! Do kids still put linament on their legs prior to playing? The changing rooms were always a cocophony of different aromas!

PE teacher Glenn.

I remember when 'pre-knocked-in' cricket bats were first mass produced.  I remember being lucky enough to have one - a Stuart Surridge,  I think I got it from Kettleborough Sports on Laughton Road in Dinnington, but I could be mistaken as I used to get a lot of cricket gear from E&S Sports across the road from Millmoor.  At the time the white bat was cool (with hindsight it was ugly) but there was something about linseed oil and a wooden hammer that made getting a new bat magical.

I don't know if linament is still used.  I hope so.  I know that you can still buy Deep Heat, which was always in my kit bag.

Smiler - don't know if you ever came across this guy at Dinnington? Bit of a hero but I never realised his background until I'd left!

Yes C, you make a fair point about big clubs and our view of it with non league teams. I don't dislike or disrespect the FA cup but just that I'd rather get promoted. Sounds like Warney is making excuses for not playing some 1st team players though with all these sudden "injuries"...

I'd still like a win though!

UTM.

The name does ring a bell Glenn but I was never taught by him. I studied economics at Dinnington between 81 and 85. I am guessing he had left by then. I did economics at TRC aswell with a lovely chap called Stuart Metcalfe who also took the football team there and was a big Millers supporter. I've occasionally thought I have seen Mr Metcalfe at the NYS but time has passed and I havent been confident enough to check whether it is him or not. Anyway, i digress. Cec Thompson does seem to have been a bit of a trailblazer.

I think PE knows that the next home league game is a lot more important so we suddenly have injuries to key players that will not play in the cup games but recover nicely for the league games. A sensible plan that allows others to prove themselves and keeps the authorities off our backs

I'll never get Warney. What a predictable boring team selection. Glad we are away. Jones at left back, why? with Hinds on the bench. I'd like to have seen Thompson Lamy start. Morris starting can't see no positives in that.

You want to see what Hinds can do gwru. Warney sees him every day and he obviously doesn't think he's ready yet. I think you have to see how they brought Wiles through carefully and have a bit of trust that they know what they are doing. Hopefully Lindsay is getting a break and not injured. Morris is a decent player. Looks like close to a first team today and probably all today's subs starting at Lincoln if I had to guess.

I am disappointed we haven't used the FA game to experiment in terms of players and formations. The changes are minor or enforced.

Totally agree Derby, and what does it do for the players chomping at the bit to get a start, like Lamy etc.

Also, 1-0 down at half time, won't do much for confidence for what is pretty much out 1st team..

...and picked up an injury with Woody...

Hopefully we can score some in 2nd half, otherwise poor all round..
