macdonald started at donny and for 60 mins we never looked like conceding, he played well in the holding role. he got injured went off and we could have conceded 3  nevermind the 2 we did. Now I am not saying he is the answer but we cannot do any worse than give him 4 or 5 games in that role.

however for me now we have 2 very quick wing-backs why are we not playing 3-5-2 get the width from the wing backs, away from home stick 2 deep midfielders in the middle and play on the break, at home we can play 1 deep midfielder. Wiles needs to be in the middle with Lindsey and we can try different players to play off Smith in the 2 up front. It would take a few games to try but we have played 5 cup games so far this season where a plan B could have been tried. this is my issue with Warne he lacks imagination and creativity he isn't bold and he doesn't come across to have the winning desire and that is reflected in his teams.

I accept my opinion is not shared by many, but it is my opinion

You are of course entitled to your opinion Derby and I respect it.  The current team hasn't really clicked yet but they have battled for some good wins and since Warne became manager there have been plenty of gutsy performances in some big games.  I don't equate screaming and shouting with will to win. I think the players always seem to give their best and I don't recall seeing a Warne side that came up short of effort.

352 is definitely an option but not with Mattock as a left wing back.  He is limited going forwards.  It would suit Olosunde and gets us two up front and I see the thinking behind it.  I do wonder whether Clarke was brought in as an option as a left wing back.  He appears to fit that bill.

I agree that Wiles has to play centrally to get the best out of him.

I didn't go to Doncaster but according to all reports Macdonald did very well until he got a knock after an hour.  Other than that we have only seen cameos from him.  Gwru has written him off but we desperately need a holding midfielder and it is time to see what he can do.  Thankfully gwru doesn't pick the team.  If what we saw yesterday was the best we can do in midfield then we haven't recruited well in that position.

For the Ipswich game I would change the side by bringing in Macdonald and Ogbene and leaving out Barlaser and Crooks.  Macdonald straight swap for Barlaser.  Ognene to play wide right and Wiles to play centrally instead of Crooks.

Two great posts from derby and Smiler. Just about agree with Smiler's last paragraph, but at Ipswich i would play Jones instead of Olosunde. I also think Derby's idea of 3.5.2 could be a good fit with the players we have got.

No no no to 3-5-2. That hasn't worked either 4-4-1-1. Keep it simple 4-5-1. We are struggling in midfield so two wide men. Come up Ihiewke holding midfielder, got to change it. Iverson; Jones Cooper Robertson Mattock; Lamy Lindsay Ihiewke Clarke Ogbene; Smith

Do we really need those drastic changes Gwru ? You have made several changes to a back four that has the second best goals against in the division. Only the team we play on Wednesday has a better defence if you believe the league.

We go to probably the toughest away game of the season(current top of league) and you put in a youngster at centre back who hasn't started a league game. You also take out of the back four our standout player this season imo and put him in a holding midfield role. A position i doubt he has hardly played in. The defence has been one of the better aspects for us this season and although i would possibly give Jones a game at right back i don't think we should change much else. The only reason i would play Jones , is his experience and defensive qualities might be needed at Ipswich. Olosunde has done well and going forward looks very good. Warne might leave the back four as it is and that would be fair enough. I definitely believe he will change the midfield and get Wiles in the middle of the park. Ogbene on right Hastie on the left and Possibly Macdonald in the central holding role might be what he does.

You're talking nonsense Whiston.  Clearly it would be better to go into arguably the toughest league game we will have all season with four players making their first league starts, our best defender out of the defence and several players playing out of position.  We are on a terrible run of one game without a win after all.

Gwru we have not played 352 at all so how can you say it hasn't worked. Clarke is a wing back as i understand it so i agree with smiler mattock is not the man for 352. 352 strengthens the midfield as you have 3 central midfielders in a 2-1 or a 1-2 formation, it gives you 2 strikers to defend from the front as well.

It's not like turning a tap on! We'll go to wing backs even though we haven't got no players proven in that position. No keep it simple. Our midfield needs 3 in. So we either play one wide player with 2 up front or 2 wide players with one up front. Me got to be latter, there's only Smith good enough we've got up front. Midfield is weak at the moment. McDonald would have been playing if he was any good. Terrible signing. Ihiewke agree keep him were he's playing well at centre back. Lindsay Wiles Clarke midfield 3. Robertson in for Wood. Best I can see.

Looked again at my team selection at Ipswich. Too soon for Cooper to start but have him on the bench. 4-5-1 Iversen; Jones Ihiewke Robertson Mattock; Lamy Wiles Lindsay Clarke Ogbene; Smith bench Price Olosunde Cooper Hinds Crooks Hastie Morris. Got to change it. Old pals act got to go.

I agree something has to change, unfortunately it Warne too many times this season and the last he seem unable to adapt quicker to change the game.

His poor choice of 4 3 3 at first a lauded this but it quickly came apparent it wouldn't work with the players he brought in so he reverts to 4 1 4 1 leaving smith up front on his own with out the players to support him.

Warne has to revert to 2 wingers we have 4 in the squad if you include Clark but yet again despite him saying so he doesn't know how to use them he plays wiles on the wing to accommodate crooks who he keeps starting sorry but his performance does not warrant a start.

yes oxford were a good team but warnes tactics and player selection made them look better than they were. They didnt sit back and park the bus, they came to win it

It says a lot that our goal came from ikky who started the run as no one else was able to create. we have no midfield general running the show

Like i have said before i just dont think warne is capable of changing things. he had a decent budget and blew it.

if this indifferent form continues we need a change in december and recruit in january

i know these comments will offend some people but its my opinion and this forum is about opinions every one is valid

Gwru if you read my posts you would see that i am saying 352 can be a plan B and we had 5 free games to try it out in the cup already. Also we have two wing backs that have played in that position for previous cluns. I agree ipswich is not the game but wycombe is, they will not expect any change because all managers know warne doesnt change things

Sorry but that is just nonsense.  In the last promotion season we regularly changed the formation through the season and including in the playoff semi-final legs (451) and the final at Wembley (442).  This season we have played in at least three different formations.  Whether you think he is a good manager or not, that is a fact.

smiler how is your response and answer to the whole post? You may think the last point is incorrect but as usual you select what you want to answer to. Are you actually saying that warne actively changes tactics during games on a regular basis? If you believe that then you cannot be watching the same team. when a sub is put on and it is not an injury he mostly does like for like, I admit at Hull last season he was bold, because in the first half his original team selection was so bad he had no choice. Whether I think he is a good manager or not will make no difference, the owner will decide and the history books will show where he sits compared to other managers.

Under Warne I have seen us change formations very many times from game to game and very many times during games. I have also seen us introduce substitutes in like for like positions who offer something different in those positions. I dont see our opponents changing formation in-game any more or less frequently than we do. In my opinion the 'no plan b' thing has become a bit of a cliche in football in general and a bit of a stick to beat managers (including our own) with, often unjustly. It is a very common complaint from fans of all teams when they dont win. I hear it on Radio Sheff, FiveLive and TalkSport all the time from disgruntled fans of teams in all divisions. Of course when you dont win it is very easy to say that if we had done things differently the result might have been better. It is easy to be hypothetically right.

alternately smiler they could be right and you could be wrong, I know that maybe a very hard concept for you to understand especially with the fact you have been watching Rotherham since 1678 and your family have watched more games of football than all the rest of the UK population put together, but you may actually just be wrong. It could also be that you make a valid point and perhaps the fact that we are disgruntled is a major factor in our analyse of the management team, you may add to that by pointing out that GWRU and others may just be trolls or wind up merchants and therefore their opinions do not matter. Overall it doesn't matter does it, we all see what we see and we all see what we want to see. TS will decide and Warne will be judged on results like 99% of all managers and whatever we think of his abilities, style, interviews, choice of captain (mattock, really I mean Mattock come on Paul!!!!) or his haircut will have no significant impact on the reality of his future.

Every time we play, I sit and hope we win, I hope to be entertained and to leave the game and be able to say now that was good, they gave everything and wanted it and showed real passion for the shirt, I have not felt like that for a long time and it is depressing as well as expensive.

No need for the cheap dig Derby.  You've taken something I said to illustrate a point, when I acknowledged that we all have a history with and affinity for the club, and you have twisted it out of context.

You asked what I thought, I gave a perfectly sensible reply, (which you may or may not agree with) and then you have come out with that unnecessary attack. Its a good job I am not over-sensitive or I might have taken offence. Next time you bemoan the absence of constructive debate I'll take it with a large pinch of salt.

I know by the way that I get things wrong sometimes.  That possibility doesn't bother me.  I am not driven by the need to be right or to proved right.  Ironically it was you, I recall, who recently went a bit prematurely by starting a thread entitled 'Told You So'.

I agree with derby post. Lately i have come away spending 90 minutes watching team with no plan no guidance in thr championship Warne worked with a small budget and we could have survived. But this in time in league one he had the funds from two of the biggest transfers and I had hopes he would move on and build a team to become a top 2 or a play off contender. But from the results, formation and team selection. I now have no faith in Warne been able to create a winning team. It seems to beyond his grasp.

Another one who thinks he had the funds from over £4 million of sales. He has had to cut the wage bill to fit third tier football as it has showed previously in our budget sheets. We haven't spent a quarter of the funds we received. He signed Ladapo for decent money, Lindsay for small beer, Ogbene and Clarke for next to nothing, MacDonald on a free, Olosunde on a free, Lamy nothing, Morris,Barlaser and Hastie on loans. We then splashed £50k to get Iversen on loan.

Compare that to the players that have left and i think it is fair to say we have cut down in quality. Let's not forget the four wide men left because they wanted better deals and second tier football. They might have got more money but none of them stayed in the championship. Now you may be correct to say you have no faith in Warne being able to create a winning team, but please stop saying he has been given the funds from the sales of big money sales. He hasn't, he has lost his best players and told to replace them with a fraction of what we got for them.

whiston01 it's how clubs like Roth U operate been same since I started watching them in 65. Barry Lyons was a star to me he was sold. Watson same & so on. Vaulks & Ajayi that's the difference from two seasons ago. Players as good as that for us don't come along very often. But we did have more money from their transfers but poor recruitment mainly that's going back 3 transfer windows it's catching up with us now. Evans you can call him from a pig to a dog but eventually he got us sides with character & enough ability to achieve what was the objective. Warney should have gone as soon as we were relegated last season. He's proved he's not got it. You've either got it or you haven't with him it's the latter.
