Reserves v Donny

3-2 win for our us. Valuable match time for MacDonald, Clarke, Ogbene, Morris and Lamy amongst others - all likely to be on the bench on Saturday if Warney sticks with his winning side from Blackpool MacDonald and Clarke on the scoresheet. I imagine Clarke would like to play against Donny every week.

Going on match report & what's been said Clarke played in midfield, Lamy sounded involved, was taken off after 62mins hope that's a sign we are saving him for the Oxford game Would have liked to have seen Hinds, he was a standout player with Wiles when I saw them 2 years ago in the checkatrade. Seen him this season against Man U under 21's he wasn't the worst player for us. All I'm asking Saturday pick the side on merit a full back at left back. Best players to play out wide but think Warney will feel obligated to play Hastie.

gwru - are you saying that Hastie is not one of our best wide players?

Hastie his form it's dipped but now he's got some competition should give him some incentive to keep his place. Not much between our wide players.

I think Hinds played today. His experience is reserve team football and a few games in the Conference North. For him to play in the first team there would have to be a reason why all of Mattock, Robertson, Clarke and Jones couldnt play there. He may become a good player but I would suggest he might need a loan spell in the main Conference league or League Two first. Lamy, Clarke and Obgene are all exciting prospects and it is great that they are getting fit and pushing for places but all are totally untried at League One level. At present you would have to say that Hastie is our best bet and biggest threat as a wide player by a considerable distance. Wiles is doing a manful job on the right side. That is where either Ogbene or Lamy might get a look in. Wiles's future is as an attacking central midfielder. They are my views, but I defer to gwru and his talent for spotting a player on the basis of a ten minute viewing.

I think that is about as i see it Smiler as well. I also think Ogbene is well ahead of Lamy. Not sure that will get him a start if Wiles , Hastie, Barlaser ,Crooks and Lindsay are all fit. Not yet anyway.

Did you go today Whiston? I know you get down to Roundwood from time to time. Interested to know what you made of it if you did.

I'm a bit confused about which side our wingers play on. When Ogbene made his debut at NYS, he played on the left and I thought he was really impressive, beating players and putting in some great crosses. Similarly, Hastie is left footed, but I understand that he's preferred in the past to play on the right and to cut in to use his left. If this is the case, Warne has a couple of flexible wingers who he can swap around depending how they are faring against their opposite numbers. It would be really good to see a formation that included both in the starting line up but I suspect that Saturday may be too early?

My opinion won't change. I don't want wingers cutting inside. Lamy last tues played like a winger on the right going on the outside & getting crosses in but got a feeling if one of the wingers are going to miss out on the match day 18 will be him. Warney favours Ogbene. I'm not so sure.

When a person start posts with 'my opinion won't change' it says a lot. I'm not going to waste my time trying to persuade you to gwru and you have made it very clear many times that you are a meat and two veg man when it comes to wingers.

For the record the game is full of left footed wingers who play on the right and vice versa and who do it to great effect. Hastie on the right cutting inside might open the door for Olosunde to get forward for example and he has great potential to do damage overlapping. The standout moment of the Doncaster cup game was Lamy cutting in from the left and hitting the bar with a great strike, and Hastie's 'showreel' is full of goals scored cutting in from the right on his left foot. Whether you like it or not gwru it can be effective.

I think in summary I agree with GlennMiller that it would be good to have wingers who can exchange and ask different questions of defences from time to time.

Did everyone see Marcus Rashfords strike for England in Bulgaria? Wonderful goal.

Yes Smiler. Great example of a right footed player cutting in from the left and using his right foot to great effect!

To many people on this site using the O word I have been lambasted on this site for having the nerve to use it. I have to agree with gwru Hastie has been found out a bit and he could go back in the new year. I still think he should start use him as a battering ram for the first hour then use either wingers as needed when the game gets stretched.

As TH says let Hastie run at Oxford till a change is needed. I'd have Lamy on the right but will be surprised if he starts. Rashford goal should have been saved Monday. Against a good full back waist of time playing him on the left.
