THE TRANSFER WINDOW - REVIEW

To correct an earlier error on my part, Vaulks started in Cardiff's 3-0 league defeat at Reading which was clearly a meaningful game. He was taken off at half time with Cardiff 2-0 down.

Whether the Carabao Cup is meaningful or not is open for debate, but in his other start for Cardiff so far he played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 home defeat to Luton in that competition.

I've said myself regarding our players that it takes time to settle and he will be no different there.

For the record I think he is a decent league 1 player and if he was here with us now alongside the current crop, I would want him starting in midfield. I'm not in any sense anti-Will Vaulks. He did well for us and the fee we got for him and Ajayi will hopefully help fund a good stab at this season.

I've refrained from responding to gwru's posts lately because they are so incoherent. However, his last post deserves consideration. No-one has intimated that Vaulks was responsible for our relegation last season. There have merely been assertions that he was overrated and over-valued. The transfer windows were indeed contributory to our demise. But I ask you, in light of the demise of Bury, what alternative would you suggest? You really have to make up your mind as to what type of club you want RUFC to be. A club which lives within it's means and finds it's natural place in the football hierarchy. Or a club which exceeds it's hand and risks the possibility of going out of business due to its inability to service it's debts. Gwru's red button subscription and attendance at home games have no bearing whatsoever on the financial viability of the club!

For what it's worth; I would wish RUFC to live within it's means, continue as a viable entity, and hope that we get lucky in the transfer market from time to time by recruiting young potential which would allow us to progress up the leagues through quality or selling on players at a profit to allow us to flourish.

Is that different enough for you gwru?

Check my posts. Have I ever doubted our chairman? None of us want to go back to 2005. Warney he's got an enviable job. Money to strengthen. I'm expecting an exciting season with the change back to playing wingers. High league position come next May? More chance of yes to that than not.

Smiler we went down because our coaching staff are average at best, warne has no balls and last year the board decided not to invest in Jan (i now believe they realise the mistake). However to blame vaulks is beyond a joke and just shows that will defend Warne no matter what, to you it is always someone else's fault never the man in charge of all parts of the playing side. I think somehow you are related or connected to Warne or Barker I really do. We will see now Warne has all he has asked for it is 100% his team his squad, nowhere to hide now. If he delivers fantastic but I can see us struggle the next two games Donny away and Bolton with their new team and Hill as manager, the man that brought his bottom 4 Rochdale to NY 2 seasons ago to beat high flying Rotherham, a game where Warnes prematch interview was so weak and negative I expected him to be found in the Don the next day.

A bit harsh Derby. If we went down because our coaching staff are average and no balls. How did they get us promoted then at the first attempt? . I have stated on another post why i felt we went down and without repeating myself it boiled down to us lacking that bit of quality and lack of flair. We relied on battlers and making the best of what we had. It was a magnificent effort to go so close to staying up.

This season there has been a massive turn around in personnel, with two very good players leaving for around 4 million. To lose them is forced to weaken us. Warne would have wanted to have kept them so no he hasn't got all he asked for. He now, with his coaching team is setting about getting a team that can get us near the top of this league. For me it's a big ask and as fans i ask us to show some patience. I definitely believe our club is in brilliant hands. Barker is a top coach and Warne is a very good man manager. We have decent training facilities and i believe with time a very good young developing squad.

Saturday is a tough game and if we could get a point at this stage of development, would be good imo. I fully expect us to beat Bolton. Where you think this Bolton team is good, i do not know. They have assembled a set of players who nobody seems to want. Keith Hill is a man i admire a lot. He will set up to not let a goal in. He is not a man who gets entertaining teams. He relies on hard work, frustrating so called bigger clubs and staying in games as long as possible. Good luck to them but i cannot for the life of me see them staying up or beating us.

 I didn't blame Vaulks.  I said I'm surprised others don't.
