Here we go work in progress. When does that end? Sept, oct , nov or when. Tactically that bench of warne, barker and hamshaw is inept wake up and see the facts. No clue why take of a striker for the worst defender we have at the club, everytime he is on the pitch we concede. Mac d was the correct change. Tactically the man is awful the evidence grows every home game.
Would you be in the trenches with warne? No way he would sit shaking crying like a baby, saying we shoukd talk to them, the emotional intelligence is cover for fear and cowardice
I've heard some criticism about putting a defender on for a striker. As a matter of fact we put Mattock on the left side of midfield and moved Ogbene through the middle. We didn't change the shape of the side at all. The young man was starting to run out of legs (as was Ladapo) and I could see the logic behind the change. It's very easy to be an armchair tactical genius after the event, and your hatred of Mattock is well known Derby and seems to be borderline pathological, so I suppose your anger was to be expected. The argument that Warne/Barker are inept and are incapable of getting us out of this division has at least one obvious and fatal flaw, which is that they have a 100% record at being successful at it. We didn't play well yesterday and there's no hiding from that. Personally though I'm not one for blaming and insulting the manager every time we don't win, and certainly not when we have so many new players to bed in (at least one more to come according to reports) and have seven points from four games which is hardly a disaster. If we continue with performances like yesterday then obviously a point would come where you would have to say that they are the manager's players and would have to question his position because that group of players should be capable of challenging in this division, but to my mind we are a long, long way from that point at the moment.
The decision to move Ogbene up front and put Mattock on just invited pressure when there was no need. Warne seems to really panic when the game is tight and it transfers onto the pitch.
We were really poor but did enough to win but as usual our game management from players and coaches isn’t great.
Worried about Barlaser as well, another game he’s been dragged off at half time. The game is passing him by and his set plays and passing are abysmal.
I think it is fair to say we are a work in progress and yes it could take a couple of months or more before we get it right. There was six changes to the team that started yesterday from the team that started the last game last season. To talk about an inept coaching set up and to bizarrely mention being in the trenches is strange to say the least. I think you need to get back to your war games Derby.
We were very poor in the first half yesterday. Our midfield caught in possession, still moving the ball too slow and making the wrong decisions when in possession. They came and closed us down by fair means or foul, slowed the game down at every opportunity and their tough tackling had an effect on the midfield three. Vassell came off after 12 minutes and we then played a more 4.4.2 than 4.3.3 and we struggled up to half time to get to grips with it. Very few chances were created by either side.
Lindsay came on for Barlaser and did well in the second half. He is now pushing for a start. I have said before our midfield worries me. It looks lightweight. Even a big lad like Crooks appears to be out muscled too much. They also struggle at times to send out the simplest of passes. The strikers look to be misfiring but the service they are receiving has been poor apart from first half at Wimbledon. Perhaps Obene and Hastie will give them the service they desire.
As fans we have to show more patience. We are playing a completely different way from last season with a massively changed squad of players. I have a lot of faith in Barker to get it right and if you have chance to watch his work at Roundwood i think you would be thinking the same. Paul Warne is the man who makes the final decisions and one who will be judged. Would i want to be in the trenches with him? No, but i would like to be at the table where we sit round with others and talk sense and come to sensible solutions. Bloody hell there's people firing at us from behind. Put those guns down and get at the side of us . Together we can come good.
Our problem it's plain to see. Mcdonald was brought in to be the midfield general. But like Jones he's had his day. Mattock when I saw him 1st friendly I said to who was sat next to me he was too keen. He was getting the tackles in. Think I said on here he was our left side. He can't do it all on his own, he's not going to be able to keep that going.
This manager took the job on after others ran away and he knew when he did it that he was certain to have a relegation immediately on his cv because we were already in such a terrible state. He went through a promotion season regularly playing different formations depending on the opposition including changing from 451 in the playoff semifinal to 442 in the final, the biggest game of his career so far. He has made a lot of big decisions to move certain players on either temporarily or permanently and has brought some back in to good effect when they looked to have gone (Ihiekwe being the best example). He took a key signing off at half time yesterday which isn't easy to do but it was the right thing to do. To accuse him of cowardice and not being flexible with his tactics is a joke. Anyone can have an opinion. Every time any tactical decision is made there will be some who agree with it and some who disagree and that's natural and normal. And Warne himself is the first to admit he doesn't always get it right. But if we have to use the war analogy I'd rather be in the trenches with a man with real integrity and heart than with an irrational hothead or a bullsg1t artist.
If I was the chairman Warney/Barker would be gone. Phil Parkinson in. Warney he's had more money from sales this transfer window than any manager I can remember but recruitment again lacking. I knew when we signed Mcdonald what was to come. Warney will never match Evans who kept us in the championship. Tell me different.

The expectation is something that exists and has been built by PW. I noted he changed his version of @we are a scalp in this division@ yesterday. And perhaps this is a very good thing because the players definitely seem a little too eager. On the other hand, when we went 1 up the nerves kicked in and one or two seemed to relax.
The 433 is an expression of his will to take on this league but right now the players don't seem to have a clue. There was a feeling that midfield was running around fighting for scraps with very little ability to have periods in charge. There has to be a lot more flexibility in the individuals and clearly many times yesterday we weren't advanced enough in sufficient numbers and we are still suffering from the way the ball is delivered to the front 3. They are not creating enough space and quite frankly the passing was awful yesterday.
I think there has to be a change in the way the 433 moves and that is not easy for a team to learn. We could find ourselves picking up more points away from home. The addition of Lyndsey and Chieo added something and the latter showed everyone how to put a ball into the box.
If the lad from Rangers comes in then the 433 might have a little more bite and will add some space for the forwards. Of course with Barlaser and Mcdonald looking ill-equipped for a midfield role at present we are going to be very suspectable to counter attacks.
I've spent some time making an extremely deep statistical study of the attributes of the managerial qualifications of the managers of the 92....sorry 91 clubs in the top four leagues in England, and have come to the conclusion that there are more managers who were professional footballers than there are retired steelworkers.

If I were a millionaire or I'd won the lottery I'd buy you a Gillingham season ticket so you could continue your love affair with the fat controller who despite being yesterday's news you never shut up about.
We could put the poor performance down to the team gelling and so on. This has it's.merits but doesn't excuse poor performance. I hate singling players out but crooks had a nightmare of a game Saturday. Ladapo never looks like scoring but in fairness to him he isn't getting crosses into the box. Let's hope with the winger coming and another striker we find our form and start winning. Otherwise knives will be out
