Just joking. I had a brief period playing professional football, followed by 11 years playing semi professionally. I am now a web developer.
Just having a jocular swipe at the Wikipedia scouts who like to think that they know far more than Warne and Scott and the medical team.
Shaun Macdonald sounds good - when fit.
Take your point TC, but you can't blame people for suggesting we ought to learn from mistakes... medical team have hardly covered themselves in glory with past Hospital job signings.. so as suggested by others, why not have pay if you play contracts... normal people dont get the luxury of having a contract then get paid for not doing their job... they get sacked or if ill, quickly end up on sick pay..
Seems to be the ballpark we're in unfortunately meaning we have to take calculated risks because of our wage structure, although handing Proctor a new contract when he was busy sitting out another season seemed foolhardy in the extreme.
See how things go we seem to be getting players In a bit earlier as soon as Vaulks goes expect a few money signings in my guess is Scotty is already spending that money. Any truth in the rumour we might be getting a youg goalkeeper from the Blades?.
I'm not.judging him till he has played a few times.
So that's 2 in no.news on the 2 wingers yet me thinks they going and like they did with Taylor left it to the last to tell us
It's fine in principle saying why not give him a pay as you play contract but why would the player accept that if at least one other club is willing to offer him a better deal? In other words the decision for the club might be do we want him on a normal contract or not? His injury was a fracture and the doctors ought to be able to assess whether it has healed fully or not based on a simple xray/scan and we will have done our homework on that. The issue after an injury like that is more to do with the players appetite for the game and presumably we have done our homework on that too. The reason he hasn't played recently in the full side at Wigan is that they had Sam Morsy ahead of him in the same position, and he is one of the best holding midfielders in The Championship.
By the way how does anybody on here know that it isn't a pay as you play deal? I think I'm with Top Cat really. Have a bit of trust in the professionals doing their jobs instead of jumping to judgment based on cynicism and speculation.
Bet they've put extra staff on for season tickets after that signing! You don't have to have played football to know how it works. I've never riden a horse but can pick winners.
Not jumping through hoops like some are with this signing. Huge worry he’s only played one competitive game of football in around two seasons, hoped we’d moved on from this sort of deal.
No doubt its a worry that McDonald has hardly kicked a ball for two seasons in a competitive league. I will wait till i have seen him to judge and i also think we have to trust our professionals who are doing the job behind the scenes.
Gwru you know how to pick winners in the horse racing game but your knowledge about Shergar is iffy. Piggott rode him on his first two victories as a two year old and when it won the Irish Derby. Swinburn rode it in the King George. Sorry to talk horse racing on this page.
whiston01 knew Piggott rode Shergar after the Derby to win a big race. It was 1981 I don't walk round with who's who of horseracing in my back pocket. smiler Morsey is no better than a lower championship player, just Wigan will pay higher wages than us. When he was suspended last season didn't see Macdonald in for him. How long ago was it we played Bournemouth in the cup. Potter would be half decent then. You've got to move on. Old pals act, old team mate of Warney's. He can join the easy list with Price Wood Jones & Proctor. We are running a sick lame early retirement scheme at the club under this management. Then we have Forde & Newell who are the worst of last seasons wingers still here dictating to us. Whose running the show!
Gwru, you wrote Crooks off after one sub appearance. You had Bailey-King in the England squad based on balf a game in a meaningless fixture. You wrote Ihiekwe off after one bad playoff game. You've written MacDonald off before you've seen him kick a ball. Who is running the show? Thankfully, not you. Say it as you see it? That's certainly true. More right than wrong? I don't think so.
I think its always better to check the facts before you put it on post Gwru. However, some of what you are alluding to here warrants some merit in my opinion. I was also surprised when we gave contracts to Price after releasing him and extended contracts to Wood (two year ) and Proctor when he has well known injury problems. I also believe Newell and Forde have had long enough and they should have been given an earlier date to say yes or no. I understand they have to look at other offers, but we also have to get people over the line before others come in. It now looks like Forde and Newell will make a decision by Friday. I would like to keep Newell as i believe he is good when fully fit and left sided. Forde would only be a squad player and although i hope he does stay i wouldn't be as disappointed as losing Newell. As i said previously none of our four wingers are world beaters but replacing all four might be a step too far.
I would like to have seen Shaun Macdonald on trial with The Millers pre-season before inviting him to sign on the dotted line. It's a hell of a risk handing a player a contract for two years when he hasn't played a competitive game since April 2017! It's a huge concern of mine that Macdonald might not be able to play for twenty minutes never mind forty five or for the full ninety. I'm still having nightmares about Paul Green. Remember him? It's been reported that Macdonald might have been signed by another club if we hadn't stepped in for him. I'd take that with a pinch of salt. A football player has to be both physically and mentally strong. I'm hoping for Macdonald's sake that he is thick skinned. He'll need it by the barrow load. Any weakness in his game will be pounced upon by some fickle fans of ours.
Our manager is buzzing like a bee in getting our latest signing seems to be very confident about our latest recruit. Time will tell to be honest I no nothing about him saw a rumour on Sunday but thought nothing about it I know we need a really good holding midfield plaýer sooner take a chance with him than get Smallwood back still need a couple more midfielders spend some money. Nowt happening with the other 2 wingers tell to go if they don't want to stop I bet they both are after 3 year deals best of luck with that one.
'Putting injury worries and contract issues aside ..... everyone seems to rate him'
'No matter who we sign vast majority give backing and benefit of doubt'.....
That made me smile. No, I actually laughed.
You've got to be kidding. We're talking about Macdonald not Messi. Macdonald's not played in a competitive game for over two years! He's an unknown quantity. 'Vast majority' have never even heard of him. Ever woke up in the middle of the night and started chuckling?
So get off the lads back & give him a chance then. Slagging the player & the club's decision to sign him before a ball has been kicked does no-one any favours.
Barker just said on radio that we are looking at Curtis Tilt of Blackpool. A 6'3" athletic defender. 27 yrs of age and had a couple of seasons with Blackpool.
