There's a good chance Williams will be on more wages than we would have offered him at Portsmouth. But Warney on two counts will have to take the blame for him leaving. He wasn't playing him in his favoured right wing position, playing him on the left he was never in the game. Another problem was he didn't get as much time attacking last season was we didn't have a championship right back. Vyner was never a right back & Jones he's not the player he was.
We might have had a better of keeping him if he had played more first team football. He was easily our best wide man home and away ( very poor Aussie joke ). I still can't understand why we are chasing Grant Ward not even fit.
( Another poor Aussie joke ) What's the difference between an Aussie wedding & an Aussie funeral? One less drunk at an Aussie funeral!!! Agree about Grant Ward, no good to us if he can't start the season.
TH Miller thinks we might have had a better chance of keeping Williams if he had played more first team games.
Here are the appearances for the four wide men over the last two seasons.
A Forde 69 appearances
J Newell 70 appearances.
J Taylor 66 appearances
R Williams 81 appearances.
He also states he was our best wide man home and away. I don't know how many away games you saw in the last two seasons but for me he had very few good away games.
whiston01 even I got that TH joke home & away, Aussie soap. Williams would have been thinking & I don't blame him how it was last months of last season if I can't get in the side for those two clowns Forde & Taylor or I'm being played out of position on the left best move on.
I have only had a short chat with Ryan Williams on one occasion at Parkgate. He was telling the few who had assembled to watch the training that he felt his best position was the number 10 role. Shortly after this Warne played him in that role on a few occasions and he was awful. Warne has given Williams more than a fair chance to show his worth and like the other wide men they didn't deliver. Good luck to him at Portsmouth but i wouldn't fear him Home Or Away. Perhaps he should be in that programme because most of the time i think he was only acting at being a footballer.
a bit concerning that it has all gone quiet on the recruitment front, this squad is not capable of dealing with injuries and suspensions as the season progresses. Any depth comes from a few kids that have played a handful of games and we have NO keeper capable at all.
On Williams, don't forget that he played in the vast majority of the games we played in a League One promotion season when we were on the front foot a lot of the time. He scored four goals that season.
I thought he started the Championship season quite well but he did fade as the season went on, and I am afraid that I would agree with Whiston. - he was often anonymous, particularly in away games.
The word was that he wanted and thought he could get Championship football. It hasn't happened. It appears that we were willing to pay more to Ladapo than Portsmouth were, so it isn't as if they are free spending and we are tight. They obviously need/want a winger and value him more than we do.
It will be interesting to see whether he is a regular there and how he gets on. He is a decent player and Portsmouth might well challenge this season, so there is every opportunity for it to work out well for him. At the same time, we could do well without him.
Williams he won't be missed like Vaulks who was never going to stop. But we have no right winger. Williams was best of the 3 we had. See if we can get one at least as good. Lamy could be anything.
Players come players go. Does it really matter why they left they no longer play for us and therefore any discussion on their strengths and weaknesses is irrelevant.
I wish them all luck but people must remember that football is their source of income and they are quite rightly going to do what is best for them.
We have the basis of a good side and it seems from this seasons recruitment that wingers are not a priority. My opinion for what it is worth is that we actually played without adequate wingers last season so it will be interesting to see how we set up.
We need another Pringle type player some one who has a shot in and can get those quality crosses and corners in. You don't always have to be that flying winger we have seen in the past get the right service to your forwards bingo
I agree once they've gone they are history then why are we f*ck*ng about with Grant Ward. Obvious Ajayi he's been in the plans since end of last season at least like Vaulks got to go to release funds to bring new players in.
Depending on the kind of deal (if any) RUFC can strike up with Grant Ward, he could be a low risk/high return acquisition who has the potential to be a useful alternative in midfield should he get fit. If he doesn't, nothing lost.
Same Grant Ward who we weren't good enough for. He's made his bed. Only reason he'd come back to us would be he's crocked. We aren't that stupid or are we?
I know it's only freindlies, but good to see Vassell knocking them in, I really do feel that we have a richness of strikers this season,if Vassell finds form and Proctor is back plus Smith and Ladapo....

There is a couple of rumours Semi going to WBA I would not be surprised if he went in the next few weeks sometimes things pop up on that twitter that turn out to be true.
why are you still talking about Williams and vaulks, both gave us good memories but they have gone now, lets focus on the players we do have or that we are still missing
