i think we might have needed to part with many that have gone. Even the better players need motivation.
Agreed Ian. I was personally not sad to see any of the leavers go. None of the 4 wingers were consistently good enough. Towell rarely performed well last year. I was never a Vaulks fan - I admired him as a person but I think his midfield abilities were over-rated. Rodak was good but I would really like a keeper who can dominate the area and catch the ball when not under pressure.
The way the squad is shaping up, we could be in for some great attacking football this season.
I agree he hasn't had a chance, seems like a few mediocre games and out you go. Well 6 new players better play well from the start otherwise GWRU and warne will have them out the door before you know it.
17 players out 6 in, management never mention the young left back we have, they openly say they would choose a right footed player as cover for mattock that makes no sense at all
people saying we have a good squad............NO we have a decent first 11 and a couple of subs, we are a long way off having a good squad at least a keeper and 4 others
Players that's left so far only Vaulks & Williams perhaps will be missed. Rodak out of the loans if we could I'd have kept him. One of the strikers will go. If he proves his fitness got to be Proctor. It had to be done. Potter Palmer Forde Taylor Newell were surplus.
Just abit OTT. I was definitely not a goalkeeper. Weren't much of a footballer come to that. I've said there's hope for Warney. I'm happy with this transfer window so far.
Palmer has more than had his chance. Was brought in for decent money and put straight into the team. Goes missing in too many games, can’t remember anything of note that he’s done.
Not sure they have demonstrated the support and development of the player and adding he was bought with the idea of being a championship player. too little too late?
Gone a bit quiet now, but guess that’s cos the current squad are away.
As said on ‘in and out thread’ at least two (I predict 4) more to come yet.
A goalie is a must, then for other 3, I’d like to see a central defender (We need a good signing in this poistion as I think our defence in middle is still lacking) and two wingers.
Looks like we might be going 4/3/3 or 4/1/3/2 (if we keep Semi), but wingers would give us a 4 4 2 option..
I assume we MUST play at least 2 up front given the riches up front we have now (assuming Smith stays..)
Score one more than them Kevin Keegan Tactics this year ??
Just read why Williams left for pastures new
To keep.it short
Playing regular So he keeps in the international radar. Can't fault him
Our.style of play didn't suit up.portsmouth leave their strikers and wingers further up
We are going over a lot of old ground here boys but here goes. Why do you think these two will come back and bite us? Williams had 81 games for us and he was no better than the other three ordinary wingers. His form wasn't good enough to start in the play off final but came on as sub and did well. Last season he started well but hardly shone after November and couldn't get in the first team much after February.
Raggett played seven times for us (i think i saw all of them) and he always struck me as very slow. He is a massive gamble for anybody because he has only managed 32 games since the 2016/17 season. I hope he stays fit and gets his career back on track but his lack of pace would be a worry if we had signed him. Gwru please don't tell me Williams is good because you can see he is, back it up with facts like chances created or goals scored. BTW he scored five goals for us !!!
Williams got injured in the new year 2019, for some reason unknown to most people couldn't get his place back. Forde was so limited it was painful. Taylor just isn't a winger, not being horrible not tall enough as well. whiston01 not about goals scored Williams played on the right was the best of the 3 quite comfortably. Agree with you about Raggett, never would have signed him. Too slow, injury prone.
No he wasn't the best of the three in my opinion. All three were ordinary. You are correct its not all about scoring goals, but as a wide man its about creating chances, getting crosses in , covering back and scoring some goals. He did none of these consistently.
Williams got his first call up while with us and first cap before he had pulled a Portsmouth shirt on, so being a Millers player hasn't done him too much harm.
Obviously he didn't get as much time attacking last season because as a team it was hard going for us. In League One we scored plenty of goals and attacked plenty and this season will be no different. He did ok in League One but wasn't outstanding and he has had plenty of opportunities. Why he thinks Portsmouth will suit him better is a mystery to me. At the end of the day he is a skillful player who is a bit powder puff in the final third. If you listed the five worst misses in the last two seasons he might have three or four of them. A glaring miss at Leeds comes straight to mind. In the final analysis like so many wide players he is very inconsistent.
It sounds like sour grapes from me but it isn't. Williams did ok for us and thanks for the efforts he put in. But I don't wear the idea that we were no good for him and that he is too good for us, or that Portsmouth are a better footballing side than us, or that Portsmouth is somehow a step up from us in footballing terms. I wonder how much we offered him to stay versus what Portsmouth are prepared to pay, and I wonder the part that played. My suspicion would be that money might be the deciding factor, and there is nothing wrong with that if it is the case.
