I can't fault gwru. He tells it how it is. He goes on what he sees. He gives honest no nonsense views which some people don't agree with or try to unpick and dismiss. He doesn't even spit the dummy out and throw the toys from the pram. As for writing long winded posts to make a point has never been my style. Why write a dissertation when two words will suffice?
As i have said before i like gwru's posts because he has strong views. I didn't think it was about beating people. I thought it was about putting views over for people to consider. I have also said in the past that gwru sometimes doesn't let the facts get in the way of a good story. In his last post he states Forde has been more in than out and Williams was hardly playing. The appearances this season does not back up what he is saying. Its more he believes what has gone off. Forde 20 starts and 11 as sub Williams 31 starts and 13 as sub. Thats probably why i like Smilers considered approach to gwru's shooting from the hip approach. However, the site would not be any good if either of these two didn't post. Lets hope there is more of the same in 2019/20 season. Two top posters btw.
Spot on!

There is only one tip top poster on this site (YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE ME ) I have forgotten more than that shoot from the hip gwru this is not a tip but a cert new manager in by xmas meet the new boss same as the old boss Steve Evans watch this space.
Totally agree Towdlad. I am in my 60th year watching the millers and if that man manages us i would stay away. If what Terry Stewart told me about him i would expect there is zero chance of him returning to us whilst Tony Stewart is in charge.
whiston01 if you can without any implications tell us what you was told about Steve Evans. I can't work it out. He took us up twice, never took us down. Warney he's took us up once, took us down twice but he's still here. Got to admit Evans will never come back. But rights right.
Terry Stewart is a very approachable man. He spends a lot of time at NYS. Ask him what he thinks about 'Evo'. He will be more than happy to tell you how his bullying, bad manners and disrespect for people, meant people had had enough of him. Just ask him gwru
Only thing I got wrong on that last post was Mr Evans will be snapped up before the start of the season In his interviews I have never once heard him pull Rotherham down in fact it is the opposite he has nothing but praise for us that Is why I don't understand how some supporters get so riled up about him. I will never say I am going to stop watching the millers I have been a season ticket holder for decades watched them through thick and thin there has been a lit of thin. We will prevail.
TH/gwru, I respect your credentials as a Millers and you have earned the right for that respect, as i am sure gwru has too. Your commitment to the Millers is far greater than mine despite my 60yrs as a supporter and therefore I acknowledge your views on this subject.
But for me the club is more than what a person achieves as manager; I guess what I mean by that is the spirit of the club is bigger than the manager or his achievements. When Evans left, it came out of the blue, but my immediate thought was that he had realised he was out of his depth, that he could see the club was out of its depth and jumped ship, which would keep intact a very impressive CV with hitherto no relegation to blot his copy book. Whether thats the truth of it, I dont know, but since he left, the amount of anecdotal evidence about his manner of management has been horrendous. Even if one of the many stories is true, then I would not want to see him back at the helm of our club.
Yes he gave us back to back promotions and that great day out at Wembley and wasn't that a day to remember, but lets not forget, Ronnie Moore also steered us to back to back promotions and managed to keep us up there for 4 years; all that without cash to throw around, without the help of an approachable chairman (remember how the then chairman took the television money on promotion and allowed him very little of the Fortune West and Alan Lee transfer monies which went to 'pay off debts') and without the pulling power of a fantastic stadium. For me his achievement was the greater of the two and he didn't walk out when it got tough. That epitomises, for me, the spirit of Rotherham United.
Evans and Raynor come as a package, don't they?
Someone on this site was going to spill the beans re Evans departure, which was in September 2015. We were due to play Hull City at home December 2015. We were going through a bad patch. That someone said that if we were to beat Hull all would be revealed. We duly obliged and beat Hull 2-0. The silence was deafening. Nothing, nil, zilch came from the one in the know. Rumours and speculation were rife. If people didn't know anything they made it up. Least said now, soonest mended.
I've heard a few rumours why Evans left but no point divulging them cause that's all they are rumours. Warney is taking sometime with his retained list. Tough decisions not his strong point. Players are just no's. Some leave for better on paper clubs/deals. Others are released cause they are surplus. No player/manager is bigger than the club. Club will still be here when they have gone.

I do agree that warne struggles with hard decisions, Wilder has already issued his release list and transfer list for the blades, that will have been worked out weeks before with we have been going into league 1 for months warne should have had the list ready for either options weeks ago, he is so concerned with the individual it makes him slow and indecisive. We saw this for the january transfer window. In late december he stated that they had just identified 7 targets for january, assuming crookes was 1 they got 1 out of 7. No contingency, no preparation,, little planning. That list should have been a living do***ent from the previous transfer window, each player monitored and watched, big enough to have contingency in case the first 7 do not fit.
This week in an interview he states he doesn't regret ANY decisions he made during the season and he did all he can. In the same interview he states that he thought bringing yates back but not ball was the right decision, that D. ball NEVER refused to come back. he says there was no place for a number 10 in the championship, well his alternative did not work.
As Monty Python once said "He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy......"
He has a lot to learn, but it shouldn't be at our cost, I would hope that our very successful business leaders that own the club are helping him in doing that quickly..............only time will tell
An interesting perspective derby. Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards and as you say only time will tell. I only hope it will not be too long, because if we want more support from the Rotherham public, then someone is going to have to put a wedge in and start to build something that resembles an element of success. The fiascos of Redfern, Stubbs, Jackett, Warnock, relegation, promotion, relegation dont do much to convince an otherwise cynical public.
I appreciate the way that Derby has presented his views, but I don't see any evidence of indecision. As of now I think something like 22 of the 72 EFL clubs have announced their retained lists, and a lot of those were done within the last couple of days. We are hardly lagging miles behind the competition.
As for January, any club's choices are limited to players who (1) are available, (2) are affordable and (3) want to join us rather than any other club expressing interest. You can add that we should only ever recruit players who are an improvement on what we have. For reasons that are obvious and that have been rehearsed on here many times, finding players that ticked all those boxes was never going to be an easy task particularly in January when the pool of available players is very limited.
It is easy to play fantasy football and say we should have brought players in, but the reality of making it happen in the situation we were in was never going to be so simple. Getting the wrong players in on the wrong money out of desperation might have upset the great strength that we actually had and our best hope of staying up, which was our team spirit and work ethic. Sorry to mention him again, but the damage that the Blackstock transfer did financially and to morale might have been fresh in everyone's minds and rightly so.
At the time we got him in I was excited about the signing of David Ball, but frankly he was a bit hit and miss for us in League One and I think he would have been totally ineffective for us in the higher division.
I do take the point that one or two have made about the fact that we only had three loan players for the last three months of the season, and I wonder what efforts we made or could have made to get an additional loanee or two through the door in January. I'm not sure whether Warne has been asked about that.
Reading tizer this morning not what I want to hear. Warney is saying 2 of our wingers will play their football elsewhere. I understand that. They want to give themselves an opportunity to play in the championship again next year. That means only winger who could play in the championship Williams will be going. We'll be left with 2 from Taylor, Forde & Newell. All those 3 have been at the club too long. Says door still open for Purrington. He looked slow to me start of last season. He'd only be cover for Mattock if he stays. Warney's retained list will be like the manager uneventful. Potter still here & failures from last season. Never know Warney might show he can make decisions. Live in hope.
looks like the rats are deserting the sinking ship he has had enough time to work out his retained list same as the last 2 transfer windows one big yawn I honestly think we are going backwards there is no drive I want to see some action I honestly could not care who goes its who we replace them with looks like agents are going to decide that.
Be patient TH and give the team time to get the right replacements. He still hasn't made his mind up on Potter apparently.
Here's two i think we have spoken to. George Dobson of Walsall a tall midfielder who is still under contract with them. The other if the rumours are correct is llias Chair of Q.P.R. a five foot three inch midfielder who likes to come in from the left but is right footed. He has been on loan at Stevenage from Jan to May. He would be a loan i think.
Don't want a QPR cast off. Manning Was no great shakes. Reminds me of the great rock & roll swindle. Sex Pistols. Was really looking forward to the season just gone but was let down. Empty promises.
