Get him on the bench. Better than having 4 wingers allegedly apart from Williams. Newell perhaps.

I think the heading should be its difficult for the kids. Joshua Kayode (JJ) signed a three year pro contract in 2017. He featured in a couple of checkatrade matches in 2017/18 and had a three match loan with Chesterfield in Sept 2018. Apparently he found it hard there and is very much a slow burner. whether he will make it to first team standard is hard to predict.
A lot of our youngsters have failed to make it. Kuda Muskwe, Mason warren, Darnelle Bailey King were all released at the end of last season. The contracts of Reece McGinley, Laurence Bilboe, Akeem Hinds and Alex Bray are all up in a few months time. Will they get another deal?. I would doubt Bray will and Hinds is currently on loan at a non league club so feel he might be on his way. McGinley is highly rated but not got near a first team place. Bilboe is a good young keeper and feel he might get a deal. However, we have a trialist keeper from Scarbrough with us so Bilboe might be under pressure too. As i said at the start, its difficult for the kids unless you have exceptional talent like Ben Wiles.

whiston01 Kayode: was nowhere ready for the 1st team when I saw him in the checkatrade 18 months ago but that's a long time in the development of a young player. Go on what Hamshaw thinks but if he thinks he could do a job off the bench move him up the pecking order in front of Yates & Forde.

If we are to progress we need to start bringing young players through as we have seen with Ben Wiles two or three more like him makes a big difference to our squad I know a lot of fans enjoy seeing them come through the system. We can't rely on loans all of the time.

I agree with both of you (gwru and TH). Kayode wasn't ready for first team games 18 months ago but he only has a year left on his pro contract. It would be great if we had two or three more like Ben Wiles coming through but from what i have seen we haven't got them coming throughwho could play at this level.
One of the big problems we have, is the quality of the reserve and junior games our teams compete in. It is a massive step up from the reserves/juniors to championship football. Take a look at the teams we play against and the divisions their first teams are in. We also give junior players loan moves to non league teams. This is to toughen them up i think. I know Kuda Muskwe had a spell at non league club and he said it was all about an elbow here a kick there and he believed it had no value for him. When Ryan Taylor was a junior at our club Alan Knill sent him to Brendan Ingles gym to get him more physical. Ryan loved it and was a half decent boxer.
If we get relegated( i still think it will go to the wire) i think we will see a departure of players and then players like Wiles, McGinley and Kayode will go up the pecking order. A change in style would also help these youngsters as it would others like Palmer. Lets hope some of the money made on sales will be given to P.W to get a team that gets the ball down and pass it.

It is a massive step up from youth and even reserve team football to first team football, and particularly first team football in The Championship. According to their own website, Grimsby fielded a very young reserve team yesterday. The gap between playing Grimsby's youth team at their training ground and playing Derby County in front of 30,00 people is a chasm.

It is a fair point to say that we all love to see our own players coming through and I am all for it, but they do have to be ready and in truth not everyone can cope with the step up psychologically never mind physically. Seeing how he handles playing in front of 500 people at Hyde against non-league players who have been round the block will tell the staff something about Hinds and his temperament and attitude. They probably already know he has some ability.

Putting these youngsters in before they are ready can kill a promising career. I think the way the club has handled Ben Wiles has been exemplary. He was introduced bit by bit, and he seems now to be taking it in his stride.

I tend to agree with Whiston that Warne will probably look to his experienced players in the crunch games ahead, but that if we go down and have to trim the wage bill in the Summer we might see more of our youngsters getting their opportunity.

Agree with last two posts. I'm looking at the bench. When all available Rodak Jones Vyner Ihiekwe Robertson Mattock Williams Taylor Ajayi Vaulks Wiles Newell Smith are our 1st choice players. Towell perhaps. When Vaulks is back if Robertson is out Ajayi can switch back to centre back. Price then 2 to complete the bench. Kayode could be a better option than Yates.

Need 14 pts to reach the magic 50. How do we get them? Were are they coming from? With Mattock & Vaulks still missing at Derby be happy with a pt there. 4 pts from H games with Forest & Villa. 3 pts from away games at Stoke & Swansea. 3 pts H game with Birmingham. Anything from WBA away will be a bonus. 3 pts from the final H game with Middlesbora. If we can keep our Ist choice players available why not.

Throwing a young kid who has done relatively very little into a Championship side battling against relegation would be a sign of insanity.
Not only would it be utter stupidity but could damage the lad’s confidence for ever.

Would agree with that point to a certain extent Kempo, but I would suggest too that this is where an astute manager would assess the lads nature aswell as his capabilities. A young, shy, retiring, talented lad might go home crying, while another with less skill but with the right mind set might just see the opportunity and get stuck in and come off the pitch battered and bruised but with a 'F--k you, I'm still here' attitude. He's the one I'd be stood next to on the barricades.

Warne may be many things but brave he is not

Bristol City at home, the lad was on the bench we were screaming for some fresh legs and pace to grab a winner in a game that was there for the taking, Warnes changes were negative and about defending the 0-0
