I'm too young to have ever seen him either play for or manage us but when you read about him you see he was a real local hero. Born in Thrybergh, career interrupted by WW2, worked at Silverdales Pit, played over 500 games for us and had a good spell managing us. As importantly, liked and respected by those who knew him.
I saw him a few times at Millmoor in the sixties. I think he wore the number six shirt. A strong tough defender i seem to remember him as. I also remember his sports shop on Church St. As Smiler said, liked and respected by people who knew him. R.I.P.
A bit before my time but I can remember Swindon winning the league cup when it was worth winning in 1969 Don Rogers scored the third goal we played them a few weeks after and I can remember them running around the pitch with the trophy. Condolences to family and friends who new him.
Certainly a true Miller and Millmoor legend if ever there was one, when men were made of sterner stuff. Bought my first jock strap from his ground floor shop in the old tax office buildings. Whats tha want wi wona them ?
