Championship Squad Market Values

Interesting piece in the Yorkshire Post regarding the value of squads in the Championship - https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/this-is-the-market-value-of-every-squad-in-the-championship-and-the-total-is-more-than-1billion-1-9528021?page=6

From a total Championship value of £1.9 billion, Rotherham are bottom and are valued at £6.44 million which is over 50% less than the club above them - Millwall (£15.37M).

Anyone who want TS to dip his hand in his pocket to produce another 1 or 2 million can only expect us to retain our bottom status but with a slightly smaller gap. The reality is, we need investment of around £35M to get us on parity with those teams in mid table and unfortunately, that is by no means a guarantee of survival.

The answer is, continue with the PW recruitment policy of bringing in value for money individuals who are prepared to work hard for the club. Hope that some perform above their 'value status' a la Smith and hope for a few more like Wiles to come through the ranks.

There is no way that we will ever compete on a £ level unless some rich individual comes along - Anderson from Bolton anyone!?

Thanks for flagging that up Glenn. Additional wages to fund as well if we try to step up in class. I think we tend to underestimate exactly how big the challenge was this season, and how well we are doing to even be in the mix with a chance of staying up. We all want affordable, sustainable investment but it has to be exactly that - affordable and sustainable.

In Tony we trust.

If Semi and Vaulks go in the Window, then we will have made some money on them, a major bonus for us and no doubt sell on clauses in the contracts etc.

Wiles will play at a higher level, but for now he is for me, the standout player of the season.

I love you old son, but really? Based on a couple of games and considering the performance that Vaulks and Mattock and Rodak have put in every game.

I can’t imagine we could afford to lose any player if no one comes in... but we will see. I thought wiles played better against Man City than Preston which was a little unusual! He does need real game time though to improve, joe Newall seems to rate him highly and he sees him day in and out. Personally I’d rather yo-yo between divisions than end up like Bolton or other clubs majorly in debt. We aren’t a big name club where someone is always willing to invest and rescue us. I might not keep going to Wembley play off games every 2–3 years though
