I will be amazed if Dom Ball plays for us again. I don't know the terms of the loan deal but if Aberdeen have the option to send him back then perhaps that will happen, in which case we would have to take him back as our player under contract and I imagine we will try to loan him out again for the last few months of his contract a la Clarke-Harris. I can't see any cir***stances in which we would recall him ourselves and give him game time. Him and Warne clearly didn't see eye to eye and Warne chose not to use him in League One. Why he would change tack now and use him in The Championship after he has been a bit part player at Aberdeen for eighteen months is beyond me. If he comes back into the fold I will get behind him but not with great enthusiasm and I just can't see it happening.

With our budget being relatively restricted, I wouldn't invest in any defenders. If we need cover, I would be tempted to bring back Ihiekwe who, apart from a meltdown in the playoff semi, was a reliable CB or RB and on many occasions was MOM. Dom Ball was poor on a regular basis and I suggest there is more chance that Ihiekwe will have ironed out his issues rather than Ball?

If we do have money to spend, we need to focus on the left side of midfield/attack where we really only have Newell as an option now that Manning has returned to QPR. Joe N has yet to prove he is consistent enough over 90 minutes and we therefore need an alternative. Perhaps an attacking left midfielder in expectation that Vassell will return and we've not seen his full potential yet.

Just heard news Ben Wiles has signed until 2022 brilliant signing for the start of 2019. Now go out and get the players we need to give us a good chance of stopping up. I know we had a bad xmas but a few things like this gives us a bit of hope for the rest of the season.

Gwru I was told it was DAVID Ball coming back. More than a bit worried if that's the limit of our aspirations this month !

ive no problem with Yates being recalled... or even D Ball returning.. but if that represents the Chairman saying to Warne.. "why do you need more players when we have some out on loan" or words to that effect... then I agree it's a very bad sign.

Wiles looked good though, so we can't assume players coming in will be worse..

I think we need to see a Striker and a Midfielder being brought in at the very very least

If the Chairman does not allow Warney to do at least that I NEVER EVER want to hear him ever ever say he is ambitious about our club ever again....

I really hope we can eat some humble pie and we get new lads in... but that's my heart talking not my expectation..

ah! you might be right Glen. Carrot and stick. The Queen might have loosened up his purse.

Bringing our players back I think its the prudent and professional thing to do. He may be waiting as long as poss to see what gives with his choices. To avoid unnecessary criticism Id bring them all back. No matter if they figure or not. Better a bird in the hand...

I have to be careful. Unless you're a ref you've no idea how hard it actually is, to make a decision and why it applies to the law in 0.3-1 second when running etc for 4-5 miles a game.

However only 1 match I've been to this season (out of 6-7?), I've actually commended the referee , the other 6 I was less than impressed. Look as players, fans, coaches etc we expect Refs to get some things wrong. What I can't forgive is frequent basic errors not befitting of their level or experience. I'm not going to mention games or names or incidents as wouldn't want to be put up in front of a panel. But something has to be done.

There are 1000's of quality refs out there every weekend, and you know what - they're in youth football? - why because mens Sunday football is toxic. If the FA want better refs at the top they have to allow a better and bigger pool to come through. The biggest barrier to that is the abuse in mens football. IFAB can also help by stopping refusing that amatuer refs should be able to wear go-pros.

It is a tough tough job but the standard at the top is far from healthy, you just need to look at how many representatives we had in Russia to know that.

If look back at the Preston game, how did we get away with that. Ajayi at right back, two slowest centre backs you'll find at this level in Raggett & Wood & in the 1st half the underperforming Palmer & Taylor. Wood could have been sent off in the 1st min'. Raggett for there goal showed how slow he is in thought as well as deed. Dom Ball has got to be a better option. He can play right or centre back, also holding midfield. But nothing confirmed yet, might be a load of baloney.

As I said sooner have Yates back than Da Ball but apart from Dom Ball no more returning please. They aren't out on loan for nothing. Need some fresh faces, idea's. Is Jones only banned for two games? If so he'd be available for the Ipswich game. Definitely need a midfielder & left winger signing in time for the next two league games. Two winnable games.

You should read the PNE reporters' view. We should have been down to 8 men.

I thought he had a reasonably good first half and then he made it the ref show in the second half.

I reffed over 300 games - never really got much abuse.

I started by getting the captains and the managers together before the game and explaining my style.

Players may not answer me back - they talk to their captain and he speaks for them.

I will not book a captain for dissent - even if he calls me names. I will book any other player for dissent.

I will not give a penalty for ball to hand - I will only give hand to ball penalties.

Back passes have to be blatant.

Managers  may ask questions and not their assistants. No personnel are allowed on to the pitch without my permission except in a medical emergency.

By establishing my authority at the beginning of the game I gained their respect and they 99% complied.

Another trick I used to do was do keepy uppies in the center circle. People then used to think "he's played a bit".

What really annoys me is when professional officials do not apply the laws of the game correctly. YOU HAVE ONE JOB! Worst one - against Stoke when that linesman gave a throw in for the ball being on the line. It was another 6 inches befoer it was out.

Ihiekwe was back training with us yesterday because his loan is up. The club are still to deciding what to do with him. At times last season i thought he looked ok but he lost his bottle in the last few games. Not sure he is any worse than Raggett or Woods, possibly hasn't got their physical presence but is definitely quicker.

I must admit - I've had a bit of lip but not anything that I haven't immediately put a stop to. There's some good tips there, but some I don't agree with. I go with your prevention is better than cure ethos I do the same in various ways. I don't so much block lines of communication, if there's good football being played I'll say so, good shot or goal I'll say so, good keeper save I'll say so. I'll also if approprriate engage in a bit of banter...but everyone has a line don't they and the players / coaches etc need to know where that is.
If there's disagreement over a call, the line "....lads from my angle...." works a treat, of course that's no good if your miles from play, I always make sure I'm 5-10 yards from any situation..in my mind it's a basic requirement a ref should be able to keep up with the game / fit enough etc.

The abuse thing though it's all over and there's too much of it.

As I've said previously, think Ihiekwe would be useful to fit into the mix with his versatility across the back. Only recall him losing his bottle in one game - S****horpe at NYS in the play-off semi. Apart from that, he was promising.  Pity he can't play RB at the Etihad - already played for Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.
