From Crawley & Cambridge through a World Cup & European Championship to scoring a goal against World champions France, surely Mr Arnason is one of the greatest players ever to wear a Millers shirt.
I was born in 68 and remember players going back to mid 70's onwards. I saw Dave Watson play but not for us or at least not that I remember. There was Emlyn, but he was past his best as a player by the time he reached Millmoor. I thought Stancliffe was class and of course the McIntosh / Swailes partnership. But for me Arnason is the best centre half I have seen in a Millers shirt and certainly one of the best in any position.
Well, although Iceland has been a revelation over recent years they can hardly be described as a good football team. Average at best. Arnie has only played at second-tier level in League football and not for anyone significantly better than our Beloved Millers. However, there have been other players who have been better in the Shirt and as further comparison gone on to have played in better teams and for longer periods.
Maybe that suggests he is only one in a very large group of similar players. I think I could list a significant line up of players that have graced the shirt and have both been as pleasing and effective and skilful and got comparable if not much better League credentials.
