Hull and Millwall

OK, so first things first, Hull coming to NYS - it will be like their cup final - so they will give it all they have.

Only one point so far - massive pressure on them, none on us.

So for that one I predict 3 points for the Millers...

Millwall, shame their fans have to ever come back to NYS, hopefully they will boycott the game due to it being on Sunday - they are most unwelcome.

Game-wise, a tougher one than Hull maybe.... a point each methinks

so 4 points will do very nicely.... biggrinbiggrin

Four points would be a superb achievement but this team are battlers. We are known as a set piece specialist team but in our three league games so far we have only had four corners & NONE in the Ipswich game therefore IMO we have to have more possession than the 30% we've averaged so far in order to stretch teams into conceding set pieces. The new lad Manning impressed in his cameo at Elland Road so it may be the right time to give him a go from the off v the Tigers possibly for either Taylor or Williams.

Already said this Warney has got select a side for this season, last season is history. We had our two slowest centre backs playing Saturday. Time for Ajayi & Robertson instead. If we haven't got nobody in Jones as the holding midfielder. Manning for Palmer. Vassell for Taylor.

These next 4 games got to target max' points we can out of them. 3 games incl' 2 away after that look more tricky.

PW probably thought that we'd be pinned back into our area so speedy CB's were unnecessary. But although "speed" as such is always a good attribute for all players but in that commonly condensed playing area it's a players "sharpness" - speed of thought and deed that central defenders need and that's a big miss for us. On the other hand experience does play it's part like Wood getting back onto the line to head out a certain goal. But that was one thing! For the second goal Wood watched his co-centre back easily beaten for pace but he didn't attack the ball fast enough to compensate. And the first goal Wood was sat on his arse within the six yard box. This is the area ( six yard box ) that we have struggled with in both championship campaigns - due to sharpness of championship strikers. In league one - we got away with murder due to the inefficient strikers we faced. Of all areas of the pitch the six yard box is the killing field of football - we need it covered quickly. Great keeper needs protection. Hopefull v Hull but not so confident v Millwall. Two draws for me.

This could light the fire under our season or it could really pi55 on our bonfire. Think we'll attack again as they are suffering in the confidence stakes.....we need to come out with all guns blazing and have the game wrapped up by half time...bloody hell those tablets are good.....COYR's

that was garbage and the manager is 100% to blame he needs help from an experienced man because he bottled it today against one of the weakest sides in this league

Taylor & Williams along with Forde never championship players. Palmer also. Vyver not up to this level. Said this since I 1st saw him can we send him back? When Rodak punches the ball when he can catch it like there 2nd goal makes him look like when he 1st came here. Not a keeper. Can't fault his shot saving but one error from a keeper can cost you the game.

Better when Newell Vassell Proctor came on. Warney will be thinking why didn't I start with at least 2 of them. Another thing said this Saturday why have Da Ball on the bench when he's not going to come on & not Jones who can cover both full back positions. Warney has got to man up. A manager can't be one of the boys, he's got to make decisions.

Too open ! No defensive system - we can't "shut shop" as a tactic - just like PW during our last championship campaign - just plays "football".....but against better players that's suicide. The players are good enough to coach into a defensive unit to grind out a point then steal the odd 3 points. JUST TOO OPEN !

I didn't see a team that was too open. If anything from the kick off we sat off them too much and were too worried about having a solid shape and gave Hull - who were not particularly good - too much respect. The game felt strangely flat. We saw later in the game that actually when we got at Hull they were quite shaky at the back. We lost because we gave bad goals away on the back of individual errors. Crap punch from Rodak for the second when he could and should have caught it, and Ajayi failing to put it in Row Z when he should have done gave them a third. Its going to be tough to win games any time we give sloppy goals like those away. The second goal just before half time was a huge moment. The crowd was abysmal, both in terms of numbers and also how quickly they turned on the players, manager and chairman when it went against us. Just for the record i heard the first Warne Out shout today, and the first personal abuse of the season directed at Mr Stewart. Quite unbelievable. All in all it feels like a game we should have got something out of and possibly won so its frustrating to get nothing.

So dissapointed. Schoolboy defensive mistakes for all three goals. Woody had just about had it so why did we sign two big strong CB's if we aren't going to play them. Apart from his curling shot that nearly made it 2-0 Manning was meh, same as Williams, Taylor, Forde etc, hard working but ultimately not second tier standard. We had a real go 2nd half though & Newell & Proctor made a big difference.

We didn't have any defensive system as such - not going to argue if that's what you saw - so be it. All about individual opinions.

Its the usual quandaries. We play one up front to give us the bodies in midfield to protect the back four, but as a result offer little going forwards and let bad goals in anyway because of blunders. When we go 442 to chase the game we cause them problems but look vulnerable to the counter attack. We have a number of players who are obviously not Championship standard but we can't afford to bring in players who are better. I see that Barnsley (who weren't good enough for the Championship) won 4-0 away tonight and big Kieffer (not good enough for the big league) got three of them. Its just a very difficult gap to bridge and there probably isn't a simple solution. The harsh truth is that Hull aren't a good Championship side but in most positions they have players who are better than ours.

My greatest disappointment was our lack of courage. Against a team low on confidence, we should have been at them from the off with Smith and Vassell up top. Sitting back and allowing Hull time on the ball just allowed them to build confidence and any advantage we had coming into the game soon evaporated. I cannot for the life of me understand PW's faith in Taylor! But he was not alone last night - Vaulks is like a rabbit in the headlights everytime he gets the ball and he cannot pick a pass. I liked the look of Manning - excellent corner for our first and almost made it 2-0 just before they equalised. We knew this campaign was going to be difficult but I find it frustrating when we add to our problems and don't make the most of our opportunities. Our strength is our attacking ability and our best chance of survival is to score more goals than the opposition because we frankly don't have the quality to park the bus. The Millwall game is going to define our season I suspect!

The point is setting up to "protect" the back four then stewing players all over the place rendering those midfielders useless as they are chasing down upfront to compensate for only having one up top instead of actually sitting in front of the back four in a disciplined defensive barrier of two banks of four. We are between systems. Allowing better players to wonder through midfielders into the danger area and engaging our defence who then are pulled out of position - pub football !

PS: We do have the quality to "park the bus" we don't have the management nouse to discipline the team into playing that system. It allows "smaller teams" to compete with better teams - it's discipline and concentration. And any pro footballer ( any footballer ) can do it - but it has to be drilled into the team. Playing league one football in the big boys league as predicted. A lot of frantic action but no cigar - probably a carbon copy on Sunday.

T71 i agree about warne needing to man up and stop this "great set of lads a great group" rubbish. That game showed how much we need experience on the coaching staff there was too many errors last night , and if fans can tell we will struggle when they hear the team sheet how come the management team can not? They are already asking us to select players to sign so next it will be voting for the team lineup

Born - I disagree. Parking the bus is not just a matter of putting two banks of players between the opposition and our goal. It requires individuals with composure, skill and an ability to chose and execute a pass which will alleviate pressure. Our players aren't that talented when measured against even average Championship sides. Therefore we have to be smarter and work to our strengths which is in attack. I'm all for shoring up our defence as much as we can within the constraints we're under, but to solely depend on this tactic to see us through is blinkered imo.

To my mind the bottom line is that whatever system you play, the players have to perform and last night too many were poor and some made schoolboy errors that led to goals. However you set up, if you concede goals because your keeper fluffs a punch when he has the time and space to catch it, your right winger tries to football it out of his own area in the 44th minute, and your centre back gets caught trying to play like he is Bobby Moore you are up against it. As ever if we win its all good and if we lose the manager is an idiot and we all know better than him. In terms of personal performances poor Vyner reminded me of Ihiekwe against S****horpe in the playoffs - his head completely went. Vaulks (sorry T71) is just out of his depth at this level. Taylor just could not influence the game at all. Too many of them were ineffective.
