Warney has kept faith with last seasons warriors. Now time for the new guard. If we get anything today it's a bonus. From what I've seen Rodak automatic choice. I'd have Jones before Vyner, safer pair of hands. Ajayi Robertson Raggett Wood in that order at centre back. Mattock 1st choice left back. Midfield Vaulks Manning Palmer or Wiles in that order. Wide men not convinced by any of them. Up front Smith Vassell Proctor at the moment in that order.
Problem today is the wide men. Will have to be able to battle but break odd chance we get. I'm not sure who can do that.
Bielsa reckons he's got us sussed out. He has been quoted as saying that we play the long ball game which is, in my opinion, a big mistake. We need to change tactics for this game.
Was it over the line ? But at least we set up for a shut out. Only booking after Taylor was kicked was Taylor whereas Leeds players unpunished. Can take a lot of positives from the overall display. A bit more savvy.
I think he's a Country and Western signer Worcester! Perhaps he's been brought in to bring a bit of harmony to our midfield!
Not a bad effort today. It would appear that there are some teams in this league who are going to struggle this season - one of them we play on Tuesday night.
Set up for a shut out today - a bit of football savvy I'm pleased to see. Reality of our cir***stances. However low the possession stats are - it's what you do with it that counts as SOME people just don't get it - even now after years of the tactic being used with great results by underdogs like us. I wonder if some folks just don't watch the game beyond 'Football Manager'. A magic stat' ( although not for the purists ).....
Burnley beat Liverpool with just 19.4% possession... the lowest amount since Premier League records began
By Luke Augustus for MailOnline.
Just a football fact of life.
Just seen brief highlights. Williams unlucky hitting the post but before that it was on plate. There 1st goal? must have been a goal. Goaline technology but still not convinced. Raggett found out for the 2nd. Warney get it right Tuesday.
I suspect Frank Lampard would suggest that Warnie got it right today after what Leeds did to Derby last week! As much as I'm not a Taylor fan, Warne selected him and Williams to nullify the effect of Leeds' attacking full backs. 2-0 away to a high-flying unit is no disgrace and the squad should get a great deal of confidence from today's performance. We're already seeing the cracks appearing in some teams in this league and Warnie will already have recognised that there are 6 or 7 teams who are going to struggle this season and our aim is to finish above them by picking up points at home against the strugglers and trying for the odd shock point/s away from home by playing sensibly.
Major difference in Derby and our mindset was :.........We sensibly set up with men behind the ball and frustrated Leeds......Derby are big boys and went toe to toe and played open football and we're open to better team on the night !
The Derby problem was precisely what Warne did during his 60% of the last championship campaign and we were stuffed!
We appear to have grown up and now respect our place on the football ladder.
Just essential - was last time but the fans just didn't get it - and the players didn't apparently. That's why we should have shipped out the players.....
The performance at Leeds was encouraging. The positives were that we defended really well for long periods and that we we caused them real problems at times. Also, we kept going and never capitulated. Ajayi is our real prize asset. If he could only cut out the occasional rick he could be a top player. Manning looks like a good addition. He must look at QPR and be very happy to be with us.
What I really like is Warne's post match comments. It is fine going away to good teams and losing bravely. We can all respect the organisation and hard work that goes into that. However difficult it is though we have to aim to improve. A little bit more composure yesterday at key moments and we could have come away with at least a point. If we had got the first goal who knows how Leeds and the crowd might have responded? The missing ingredients are a bit of extra quality and belief. Confidence goes a long, long way. Hopefully the players will come away from yesterday with the knowledge that they can compete with the best in the division and the belief that they can go away from home in The Championship and win games. On yesterdays evidence, they can.
All in all no points but a very respectable effort and hopefully a step forwards.
I wasn't there but I'm going on the last two home games think Warney wasn't expecting to get anything at Leeds. We need Ajayi & Robertson paired up at Centre back. I don't know how he played yesterday but I'm not convinced by Vyner. Taylor how's he got back in the side. Preference was for Williams at Wembley. If we don't sign a centre midfield player in time for Tuesday play Jones there. Side for tues Rodak; Vyner Ajayi Robertson Mattock; Williams Vaulks Jones Manning; Smith Vassell
