We aren't gonna get Johnny Dexter either. He would have sorted out the midfield.

Centre forward could be Dennis the Menace ! At least sounds ominous.

why would any player that has a choice come to us now? It is clear we have made a decision to minimise our wage bill and not spend anything on players and take the championship money and pray for a miracle. warne knows his job is safe no matter what and we will likely drop into league 1 a little richer. People seem happy with that level of ambition I think it is a lost opportunity and disappointing. I assume I will now get abuse for not joining the "we should just be happy to be alive" gang

Even Nipper Lawrence would have been better than nothing.

Who exactly is our Head of Recruitment?

Nothing came of the Towell item Brad put up then. It appears the prospective targets failed to materialise due to their current clubs unable to sign the players they were after, perhaps this was the case with Towell.

So its down to loans with a view to sign in the January window. Never been too keen on loans. You can be lucky and get players who do a job for you and who the fans take to their hearts only for them to return to their home club leaving you bereft and back to square one. We will just have to wait and see.

You can draw those conclusions if you like Derby, but I would say this:-

1. It isn't clear at all that we have decided to minimise our wage bill.  This transfer deadline is being described as a 'soft' one, because beyond today clubs can do deals to take players on loan and build in that the loans will be turned into permanent deals in January.  You and I have no idea whether some of our players have got pay rises because of our promotions.  I think it is common for players to have clauses where their pay goes down if we go down, but the same often applies in reverse.  As per point 1, there may well be more investment just around the corner.  In a nutshell, your scathing assessment is based on your perception, when none of us really know the facts or what other plans they might have.

2. I doubt that Warne has any guarantee over his job.  Some people believe the contrary - that he is being lined up as a scapegoat to carry the can if we struggle.  In reality, I suspect Stewart would love to stick with him but that it could be difficult in practice if the crowd turns on Warne.  It always is.

3. We can't spend beyond our means.  I would love us to splash the cash, but £1m plus for example for a striker who got 16 goals for the team that won league two?  No thanks.  We should be gambling within our own financial constraints, and I wouldn't have us do anything other than that.  If a club like Derby want a player like Holmes (who reportedly interested us) as much as we do, they will get him before we will.  It is a harsh truth.

4.  What we really need to do is sell someone for a lot of money.  That is how you climb on board the merry-go-round.  Unfortunately we have never sold anyone for more than about £750K (half the Ward money), so the virtuous circle has never got going for us.  We still don't have anyone worth more than that.

5. I don't personally like your implied suggestion that Stewart and Warne are taking the money without trying their level best to keep us up.  I don't see anything in their past to suggest anything other than that they are honest, ambitious people.

You have your opinions.  They are mine.

I understand that Dead Shot Keen is available as a free agent.  Past his best, but still capable of ghosting past a defender.  Sorry.

Midfield loan tomorrow. Yates? if as it says a central midfield player. Could be Towell. Sooner have Towell. Could be someone completely different.

All we can do is learn from the Brentford game. Got to be Robertson for Wood. I'd play Wiles on the Right, he's not a winger but he'll compete. Williams is best of the 3 who have played there but doesn't always come off for him & leaves us open. One up front playing 4-5-1

I'm beyond angry. Everything derbymiller said is absolutely correct. I obviously hope I'm wrong but we're 100% toast in this division & that is 100% the club's hierarchy's fault. At least Stubbs signed people, the wrong people granted but there was some movement. The thousands of Millers fans who have bought season tickets have been royally shafted. The forthcoming fans forum should be fun, I went to the last one but I wouldn't trust myself to behave myself if I went again. Get ready for two or three 18 year olds from Huddersfield or Burnley on loan to try to appease the fans. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Just been looking at the loan system. You can't select more than 2 loan players over the age of 23 in the match day squad, 5 loan players selected in total. There's nothing stopping a club signing more than 5 loan players. Can't find this out. Just wondering why Warney hasn't signed any permanent signings today. If you sign a loan player with an agreed view to signing him would he be included in the limit of 5 loan players in a match day squad. I can't work it out if we have left ourselves short on the players good enough to compete in the championship.

smiler are you happy with the way we have prepared for the championship? Do you think our squad is strong enough to give us a chance of surviving in this league? Do you think we have a striker at the club that will score more than 10 league goals, if so who?

Very disappointing but sadly totally expected. The only crumb of comfort I have is we haven’t lumbered ourselves with another Dexter Blackstock!

We might be in the doo doo but the depth is unclear at this point in the season.

"the wrong people" - AS had to replenish the core squad culled by NW so the meagre squad was spread even thinner plus the aged pro's on 60% of wage budget. This year we had a full squad / a full pre-season / a full closed season and all the money for promotion and give away player sales.....no sorry - this season the hierarchy can't blame the manager - and why should they - he's a company man and will never be sacked because he's doing his best with a allocated budget - for what it is. ******. Fingers very crossed ! It's some inspiring loans then ? They have to have something up the old sleeve !

All the loans in the pipeline we could have been done earlier to gell the team pre-season. OK - player 'A' not available until player 'B' arrives - it's a chain - but as it stands ....I think we're a bit light especially in creative / combative / box to box midfielders. Again from here a survival season is looking an epic project. Good luck Mr Warne.

Derby, I wish we could bring in a host of million pound signings I really do. But we have a market where a kid from Accrington Stanley or a Tom Bradshaw, who is pretty ordinary to be honest, would cost what for us would be all of our available money and I doubt either of them would get ten goals for us this season either. As I've said before (but you've asked) I think it is hard for us to do business early because we are nobody's first choice Championship option, and we just can't offer as much (wages or transfer fees) for players as our competitors. I don't really like it, but I am not sure what we can do about it. Let me ask you, no wind up intended, if we just haven't got the money to get better players in than we already have, what do you want us to do about it? Go into debt? Get investors in? Sell up? Put the ticket prices up? Something else? What would your answer be?

I wonder what the Blackpool boys think ( regarding transfers ) having arrived early and ticking the boxes of good people - ambition ( to attract national team attention ) and other non football ticks in boxes and football ones incidentally! They came to enjoy a half decent season and accepted the Gaffa selling the club's ambition - So - I wonder if they're a little suprised that more bodies haven't been brought in ? We could be in line for some stunning loans though...whoop whoop ?

The natives are getting restless. Wembley following down, trying to sell season ticket's just before the season starts. Juggle some loans about all we can do. I don't know how we got Robertson Vassell Rodak. But life is good.
