BBC Radio Sheffield will no longer carry live commentary of Sheffield Wednesday matches after the club refused to accept a reduction in fees for coverage rights. The BBC asked all Premier League and Football League clubs for a 10 per cent reduction in fees for commentary rights for the 2018/19 season and Sheffield Wednesday was the only one to refuse.
this just sums chansiri up.
so they will only be covering blades barnsley donny and the glorious us fab news for those who cant go to the away games
Owls' armchair fans will need to stand up and be counted? They are usually the quickest to phone Praise or Gripe on Satdis. Having said that, are BBC Radio Sheff strapped for cash? Mebbes they're overstaffed? They appear to have quite a few roaming reporters with a car, mike and recorder in hand. That's a dear do in my book.
Yes, you've guessed right I've never been a BBC Radio Sheff supporter.
The BBC have cut the fees, which they were prepared to pay to 62 football clubs, by 10%. Only Sheff Weds have declined the latest offer leaving 61 clubs who have accepted the 10% reduction in fees. Most Owls' supporters calling Radio Sheff tonight have been angry and criticising their own club. Only one caller, 'Chris', near the end of Football Heaven actually made criticism of the BBC, who are responsible for cutting the fees to the football clubs. The BBC aren't even prepared to divulge what the fees are in pounds, shillings and pence.
I'm sure the truth will out at some point before, during or after the Owls' fans forum due to take place next Monday night.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall at that one.

Wednesday supporters won't pay over inflated prices for much longer if the results slide. They turned the BBC down and are trying to sell iPlayer as an alternative at the same time as they are trying to avoid a transfer embargo. Their CEO is the lady who alienated Charlton fans for years. The writing is on the wall.
Wednesday are not in a great place at the moment and this could be a make or break season for them.
