It's a myth saying players who didn't show up that well in league 1 will do better in the championship. Da Ball & Ihiewke not championship players in my opinion, in fact Ihiewke how he lost it in the play-offs doubts he's a league 1 player. Palmer got to up his game considerably to get a game in the championship but we'll need cover. Hope he proves me wrong, I'm not always right. Some would say far from it!

Just watched Warnsey on recruitment but mainly the likes and dislikes of raspberry jam - but no Marmite.
He's talking about the squad not needing a complete overhaul. Well - with our better players being loan players last season and the central defence needing a total overhaul I think PW needs a revaluation.
And quickly....the championship is a no nonsense league that will eat weakness - slow - inept - freeby non league diamonds will not work well.
I fear the trip to Wembley - based on a very very poor league is creating a false sense of security in the capabilities of our inexperienced management team. God love em they need to quickly learn some footballing home truths - and that means closely following Iceland and Burnley's game plans - but they need the players to do it and they need them quickly.
There's a lot of work to do and some difficult decisions to be made.
I think the Barnsley model ( who copied ours anyway ) is the order of the day - the Huddersfield comparison was always a joke.
I said YOYO with Barnsley ages ago - perhaps a bungee would be better for us for a year or two.
I don't like sound of give the players a chance who got us to where we are to test themselves. We are not talking about the likes of the outstanding Porterfield side that got up to the same level. This side now needs bringing up to lower championship level. As a squad will need a min' of 8 players to do that. Warney will know that. As he says we need to start the season firing on all cylinders.
The key mistake that Evans made on our last promotion was to break up the squad, almost completely. Any momentum was lost. The majority of last season's squad, including, if possible, the loanees, needs to be retained. A minimum of 8 new players is unrealistic and Warne has already said about 5 - but that probably includes the loanees. I would like to see incremental rather than wholesale change to the squad. That way, we retain the ethos (critically important in last year's success), unity and desire - don't underestimate these qualities when it comes to playing in any league - Championship included.
You've got to good enough to play in the championship to start with. You can't get blood out of a stone. Work it out a keeper 2 right backs & a centre back when we really need 2 that's 4 signings. Hoping Wiles comes through but still need a midfield player. A winger & at least one striker. That's 7 signings min' incl' loans.

This is the first time I have seen you mention Wembley and indeed our promotion since the big day in May, and all you can say about it as that League One was rubbish and we shouldn't overestimate Warne and his team because of it?
You spent most of last season insulting Warne whenever you could and saying or implying that he was complicit in taking us down on purpose and incapable of taking us back up - even suggesting that he was also conspiring to deliberately not take us back up.
I challenge you Bornamiller to respond directly to this challenge. Can you bring yourself to come on here and say unequivocally (no comments like we were lucky or that the league was rubbish) that we thoroughly deserved to win at Wembley and that Warne and his team did a really good job last season? Or do you prefer to gloss over that by staying silent about it, and setting the poor guy up to fail next season?
I think we all know that we need to strengthen the side. To me the key areas are in defensive positions. We conceded a lot of goals last season but did well because we scored plenty. That will not work this time round. Lets face it, we are not going to outplay many sides this time round. We need to make ourselves hard to beat, need to be a threat on the break and at set pieces, and need to keep the ball well when we have it. We can not just sit back and absorb waves of pressure against teams who have players capable of a bit of individual magic. I think we probably already have players who can still be an attacking threat. It is our ability to be defensively solid that concerns me more.
I think Glenn is right. There is a balance to be struck between strengthening the squad whilst not killing the momentum and spirit that we are taking up with us. The impression I have is that Warne totally gets that and he is much closer to the group than any of us are. I have every confidence that he will have a good stab at it and that we will have a good go at being competitive within our means.

Don't respond to "challenges" as such - but I did enjoy Wembley and a win to boot. I have to qualify that by saying I was very disappointed in Shrewsbury - and God help them now !
Last season was a disaster from start to finish and the only one to blame was TS.
He started a 3 year project ( based on youth ) and brought in a team of managers that were as good as we could have hoped for. TS supplied ****** all budget and the majority of wages were still being spent on EVO's highly paid old crocks.
Details are wasted on here because the propagandists have brainwashed many fans who think PW - with 60% of the season left did ok and was blameless. As for deliberately "taking us down" well the crowning of PW guaranteed relegation - if that's what you meant.
The Stubbs tenure was blighted before it started but at least he tried to play survival football like Iceland and Burnley's heroes are heralded for - and who knows - given time and a supported transfer window - we may have survived - but - as I say PW guaranteed relegation.
Simple facts to those that follow the news and gossip closely. It was also written - but generally missed that AS didn't want DB either - other than a stop gap / short term signing - others at the club were culpable of that stupid 3 year deal.
But hey ho....we're out of that God awful league and we'll see if PW plays "expansive football" like he did last year ( to great effect ).
Wood was magnificent at Wembley - he wanted "it" more than anyone BUT....championship and quick - bright forwards and he'll be toast. Kinder to let him coach the kids and leave on a high for me.
You haven't really answered the question. Yet again you criticise the division and say that you were disappointed with the opposition so clearly any compliment will be back handed. But let us know where you stand before the new season starts. Do you agree that Warne and his team did really well last season? Or not?
Last time we were in it we had just come up from League 2 and it seemed a bit daunting at first and felt a bit intimidating and we were all delighted to do well in it. This time we dropped down to it, so compared to the Championship it didn't look so good. In truth it was our expectation and perception that had changed. The league itself is not a lot different year after year.
It is the same standard of league that Sheff Utd took several years to get out of, and that some big clubs like Bradford City and Charlton can't get out of, and apparently too high a standard for MK Dons who have fallen through it following a flirtation with The Championship.
It is a bit frustrating that a poster who cast doubt on Warne all season, had a dig at him at every opportunity and gave the impression of wanting Warne to fail so that he could be proved right just disappeared from view for a few weeks after our Wembley success and apparently can't bring himself to give credit where it is due. But no, instead we move on to casting doubt about the man's credentials to lead us back into the league above. I really think that given a choice Bornamiller would prefer to have Stubbs back than give Warne a fair go.
"Do you agree that Warne and his team did really well last season? Or not? "
The majority of games I saw last season in my opinion - we recieved points because the opposition were worse than us. Mediocre games - lacking "quality".
We scored goals because the opposition defence was woeful.
We didn't concede A LOT more goals because the opposition attack was woeful.
Many times I left NYS thinking how the hell did we get points.
Sorry - rubbish league - worst in a long time - but this season the opposition defence will be frugal and the attack clinical.
Happy players don't make good players - squad bonding helps but not against CLASS.
Looking forward to the new season but haven't got high expectations....the ALAMO comes to mind. This is when a manager earns his dosh and PW is up against some experienced guys.
PS: Fitness played a large part of the campaign and most importantly in the final when a poor Shrewsbury even ran out of steam.
Fitness though should be a given in any league but last year it did make a difference. This year we'll be even fitter - but let's hope we're not chasing a football round the pitch full of players that can pass us to exhaustion.
It's a "clever" league this one where matches are won on points - rarely knock outs.
Another thing - we need a Barnsley / Sheff-U academy that's no further down the line. Clever Clever Clever - fingers crossed eh !
