I'm not convinced Towell is a prority. Whose going to come in if anything happens to Vaulks? Jones could come on but not a starter in midfield. A holding midfielder & right sided midfielder/winger for me before the Brentford game. We've still got a week to get a striker. We played 4-5-1 at the end of last season when it got serious. Can't see us playing 4-4-2 much this season.
I'm not sure how I feel about signing Towell. I like him but I am not sure he is what we need. Would he improve us? Yes. But in terms of priority there are other sorts of midfielders who might improve us more.
I think we need a physical, athletic midfielder to sit and screen the back four and who can look after the ball. Obviously not this quality, but someone to do what Matic does for Man Utd.
Maybe we need that player plus a Towell type to give us options with Potter out.
I have been impressed with Williams preseason. He looks sharp. I think our best bet with wide players in Newell left and Williams right.
In the biggest game of all we went 442 - at Wembley. It is good to have options.

we have missed frecks since he left that box to box midfielder and i think towell on a permanent basis could be that player he is competitive and wants to win you could see his frustration when a player took the wrong choice of pass
Posted the above on 26th June 2018. We still need a quality left full back now more than ever. Yes, I know, we also need at least one more midfielder plus a forward.
That was my first impression David but having re-watched several times i'd forgive him because of the static defending in front of him. Wood was too slow in Lge 1 and will now be ruthlessly exposed at this level. It beggars belief that sentimental Warne gave him a 2 year contract despite signing 2 centre halves to replace him.

Fair enough Splinter, but from what I saw he'll need to improve, quickly. For example, if he punches when he should catch, or parries the ball out, in this league there is always someone ready to take advantage.
As some others have said, I think Warne wanted to see how our winning team from last year could cope.
He has the answer now, so he'll make changes over next few games until he thinks he's got his best 11 out for this league.
It remains to be seen if that 11 will be good enough to scrape enough points to give us another bite at the transfer market in January.
