On Ladbrokes in-shop World Cup group stage betting coupon -  they had England at 6/5 to qualify and 1-7 to win the group.

Have a look in their shops (unless they have removed them by now)

Unfortunately - their computer system spotted the error, so my attempt to get £50 quid at 6/5 on qualification failed.. :(

Living in Scotland is always fun with these Competitions... everyone hates us so I'm often in my local shouting them on against a 100 or so 'anybody but England' fans... all good banter though.. :)

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will discuss oil and other issues today as their teams face off in the World Cup.
Oh, the irony. And here's me thinking it was all about the football.

Putin's show is off to a good start.
Russian Bear 5 Saudi Oil 0. Russia the lowest ranked team in the competition apparently. It beats a boring 0-0 result any day.

Found Putin's and King whatshisface continual holding out hands shrugging of shoulders pretty cringeworthy - it's football, a game for goodness sake, celebrate Putin, and King thingy applaud the opponent. Unless as Wots says something was riding on each goal scored +/- $10 a barrel maybe?

Luckily we won't have any worthwhile representatives there, but if we do - some fist pumping for goodness sake it's almost like nationalism is a sin these days.

5-0 flattered Russia, although they were very poor Championship standard, which says nothing about the Saudi's who were bab. Can't remember such a poor quality opening game. Hopefully Spain & Portugal will put that right tonight, no love lost there!

Sorry to be negative but I found the whole thing left a horrible taste in the mouth. I didn't watch the opening ceremony, but Robbie Williams for crying out loud? Putin of course hijacked it. That is why it shouldn't be there. People say politics and sport shouldn't mix, but nobody told Vladamir that did they? Then the match itself. A five-a-side style team getting battered by a pub team, watched by the King of Greater Russia and the King of Saud basking in the sunshine. No thanks.

Might even watch the kif in the rif aka Morocco play the Iranian Repression later on. I'll be watching with a jaundiced eye.

Get back to England that's what we're bothered about aren't we? Worries me they are saying Rose he's not fully fit. Why did we take Ashley young & not Betrand. Shearer even says when he was playing he's sooner have a natural left sided player crossing the ball in not a player cutting in . Sooner play Delph on the left. Also playing with wing backs. Walker says he'd sooner play right back. Play a formation the players are used to & happy playing. 4-4-2 everytime for me. We'll get found out playing 3-5-2 as soon as we play the better sides.

The Geezers of Egypt beaten 1-0  by the Montevideo Mavericks.

The Iranian Repression 1 Kif in the Rif 0

This is a World Cup thread. England aren't the only team in the competition making up the numbers.

Uruguay are a very good outfit.

It's like saying there's other sides than Roth U in the championship but whose bothered about them. I'm English so when it comes down to it they are the only side that matters. But I can appreciate world class players. Spain against Portugal is an open game. Ronaldo that's how to take a penalty, Costa took his goal well.

As a Briton I'm not represented by the England National Team. Perhaps a Team Briton might help my situation? England is a state created to accommodate the haves and inconvenience the have nots. You get me?

As a working man I'm not represented by the England National team either. Cant think of anything that links me to a bunch of multi millionaire sugar puffs who will never lift the world cup while ever they have a hole in their collective whatsits. I think I have more in common with the Conservative Party, I can at least get medical treatment for that. Thats me said.

well, Im thinking the VAR has been a resounding success thus far.

As to being British or English , I think it would make little difference to the representative nature of the team. They would still all been multi millionaires and belong to a club structure wayyyyyy outside our experience.

Only England team I could link to would be one I was in and that team would be so **** it would be unbelievable

Spain as predicted still look the team to beat but when it comes to faster teams like Brazil and Heavy artillery teams like Germany I think they will have their work cut out.

It's early days but the host nation, Russia is still negotiating gas and oil prices with other nations. Woe betide any of the other competitors who decide to step on the Great Bear's toes as it ambles through to the semi-finals.

What I've seen so far not seen the winner yet. Brazil Germany to come along with Belgium winner to come from those 3. If somebody gave me a free bet be on Brazil.

Not forgot England yet to play but I just can't see it. Everything is too nice it's like being in a holiday camp named bye de bye!

Now that the German Geriatrics have been beaten 1-0 by the Mexican New Wave it's looking good for the Great Bear's chances.

I see Neymar is sporting the Alannah Currie hairstyle from the early 1980's. Ha, ha. It's so funny. On the other hand Alannah Currie of the Thompson Twins carried it off brilliantly.

Miranda, Brazilian number 3 missed a great chance very late on in the game against the Swiss.

Come to think of it a Brazilian number 3 sounds more like a trim at a barber's shop.

Brazil: Jesus looked out of his depth. Play Firmino instead. Side to beat for me. Sides that peak in there 1st game don't normally last it out. Got to see how the groups pan out. Belgium then England to come. Not seen nothing to be frightened of yet. I could fancy England if they play 4-4-2, play there normal game. If I see Ashley Young in the side then I'm not hopeful at all.
