The World Cup Thread

Starting this as it might be easier keeping it all in once place, especially when I start ranting about negative tactics.  Doesn't need to be just England, anything that you might see or whatever to do with the World Cup in Russia.

Good to see England playing a game on British soil but well away from Wembley.

Furthermore, who authorised the Piggies Brass Band to play inside Elland Road?

On top of everything someone has also allowed flag waving inside the ground.

Brilliant goal scored by Rashford against Costa Rica. Was it a hit and hope shot though? It certainly fooled the Real Madrid goalie.

Are the adverts just short term on here ? Can't see the relationship between them and the World Cup meself. Oh, hang on a minute. It's the thin end of the wedge. Look what happened to MM. Just saying.

Great strike from Rashford, only time we've actually been more aggresively attacking though, too laboured for the most part - I guess to be expected.

Ads are a tester. Won't be anything more than those at the top and the bottom, will not get like MM, virtually unusable. This website isn't free and needs to cover its costs!

There's also extra functionality, down the bottom, a bar that shows who's online now and the ability to private message among other stuff.

I switched off after 60 mins got bored. Rashford did ok, but will come up short against quality defenders. Great attacking intent out the feet and strike for the goal taking nothing away from that, not enough of it though. A few players guilty of not taking the shot on when they should do, but I'm sure GS will spot that.

I see hope is there. Keep Ashley Young & Cahill away from the starting line up will help. Delph can cover Rose on the left. Rashford his goal most keepers would have saved that but if you don't shoot you don't score. Going to play 3-5-2 will be something like Pickford; Jones Stones Maguire; Walker Loftus-Cheek Henderson Dele Alli; Kane Sterling. Can't see a problem not getting to the quarter finals.

I stopped watching England over 20 year ago after Venables spell as manager, when there seemed to be a little renaissance in the English international game; but of course it didn't last.

Now, I couldn't name a single England player. I did watch a bit of the Nigeria game until they scored from our defensive school boy errors. So I switched off and watched re-runs of Coronation St on ITV 3 instead. Ah well, gone are the days of awe, when the names of the giants of English International football rolled of the tongue. Glad I was around then to see it.

Ex, honestly I did not know who he was till I googled him just now….As I said on my first post, I cannot name you a single England , or Premiership player for that matter. These days my only interest in the game is in our very own Millers and the teams around us, everything else is, well a bit of a blur.

At this juncture I'm wondering if the football authorities in Russia have made a start to re-educate everyone involved in the game in their country, including supporters of the game, about acceptable and unacceptable behaviour before, during and after a World Cup match? If there is blatant racist chanting from anyone during a game, will the stewards/police remove those responsible? Or, will it be ignored? Gareth Southgate has already discussed his concerns about racist chants which may be directed at members of the England team during a game. One of his concerns is that some England players may even walk from the field of play if the chants become intolerable.
I'm sure Russia wants to put on a good show. However, my gut feeling is that someone may want to spoil that show.

Wotsisname, watch the Frankie Boyle goes to Russia, the FSB have assured the authorities that the hooligan elements of Russia will be on holiday and nowhere near the stadiums.

Looks as though Putin has got a stranglehold on most everything that might want to upset his applecart. State controlled hooliganism? Allegedly. smile

I'll try and catch up with Frankie Boyle's doc u mentary at some point, Worcester.
