Goals and Assists

Just found this on a BBC web-site :

 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/rotherham-united/top-scorers

Interesting reading on who did what. I wonder how many goals KM would have ended up with if he had stopped?

i have wondered how many he would have scored if he stayed but we may never know as i cant see him in a millers shirt again

although the thought of proctor smith ball and moores as 4 of strikers would be good

i wonder is warne will go for 3 upfront next season smith proctor ball up front

yates i think will go out on loan to a league 1 or 2 club for a season

and we will get 2 more strikers in

Now if that doesn't tell you to put Taylor up front when playing 2 up top I don't know what does!

I have always thought that these sort of stats are a very crude measure of performance. We haven't had a consistent goalscorer since Moore left but we still scored plenty of goals. Smith is not prolific but he has weighed in with a few and has led the line fantastically well a la Revell. As far as assists are concerned, we have done well from set pieces and if they play Newell and Forde tend to deliver those, so their assist numbers look good, but anyone could have put those balls into the box and we might still have scored from some of them. Same with penalties - Billy Sharp looks like he has had a decent goalscoring season at SUFC but hw many were penalties that someone else could have converted?

One of our big strengths this season has been that we have shared the goals around and had a good threats from several players and several areas, which made us difficult to nullify and not over-dependant on any one player.

 true as well.

Josh Morris has had a great season at s****horpe (had a short loan with us) but most people focuson the other lad DH at scunny, but Morris stats are way better.

There is this point that Warne keeps making about PLAYERS  being right for the club and needing to BUY into the philosophy.

Brecks: The DNA has to be right.

Chariman: They have to be Rotherham players.

while these might be lip service in terms of sound bites I think these are the key points in recruitment.

The difference between players bonding together and just turning up to play is the Dark matter of Football.

its invisible but it holds everything together
